MR. bobby ray dyer

 

Mr. Bobby Ray Dyer, age 57, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2000 in Lanier Park Hospital in Gainesville, Georgia.

Mr. Dyer was born in Union County, Georgia on Sunday, August 9, 1942, a son of the late Roy Dyer and Stella Payne Dyer.  He was a supervisor at a local shoe manufacturing company.  Mr. Dyer was a lifelong resident of this area, and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.  He was also a member of Dooley Masonic Lodge #567, F&AM.  He had been preceded in death by a son, Ricky Dyer in 1999.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Frances and Don Carpenter of Blairsville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jewell and Rochelle Dyer of Franklin, GA, Charles and Bonnie Dyer of Cleveland, GA, Ronald and Janie Dyer of Blairsville; sister and brother-in-law, Diane and Danny Denson of Douglasville, GA; three grandchildren, William and Alisha Carpenter of Blairsville and April Dyer of Clermont, GA; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Friday, April 14, 2000 at 2 pm from Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Calvin D. Gray officiating.  Specially selected music was presented by The Kelley Trio.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Chris Hart, mark Massey, Jack Allen, Stanley Odom, Lenny Freeman, and Dale Hamby.  Serving as honorary escort to the family were: Katherine Taylor and Don Young.  Interment was in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

mrs. cordia d. sellers

 

Mrs. Cordia D. Sellers, age 54, of Canton, passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2000 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

A native of Union, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Jay and Ethel Ballew Duckworth.  She was a school teacher with the public schools for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert. O. Sellers.

Surviving are her daughter, Elizabeth Sellers of Gaffney, SC.

A private ceremony will be held by the family.

Garrett Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

MR. david charles totten

 

Mr. David Charles Totten, age 47, of the Murphy Hwy. Blairsville, passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2000 from injuries received in an accident.  Mr. Totten was born on January 17, 1953 in Decatur, Illinois, the son of Guy Totten and Arlene Marvel Totten.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the Christian Church in Monticello, IL.  Mr. Totten was employed as a foreman with the Colwell Asphalt Plant in Ellijay.

Surviving Mr. Totten are his loving wife, Sandy Darsham Totten of Blairsville; father and mother Guy and Arlene Totten of Bement, IL; three daughters, Cindy Giddings of Monticello, IL, Frannie Totten of Clearwater, FL, Nicole Leckner of Blairsville; two sons, Richard Leckner of White Heath, IL, Mike Humes of Tampa, FL; one brother, Robert Totten of Sterling, IL; mother-in-law, Shirley Davis of Blairsville; father-in-law, Dale Davis of Monticello, IL; three grandchildren, Megan and Kristen Giddings of Monticello, IL, Crystalyn Tot-ten of Clearwater, FL; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Monday, April 17, 2000 at 7 pm from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Strickland officiating.  Mr. Curtis Colwell gave a eulogy for David.  Special music was presented by Myra Broome and Tammy Radcliff.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Randy Pagel, Danny Wright, Jimmy Darsham, Rick Harper, Mike Stewart, Michael Stewart, and Chad Huff.  Services were also conducted on Thursday at 10 am from the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home in Monticello, IL.  Interment followed in the Bement Cemetery in Bement, IL.

mrs. della mae nation shelton

 

Mrs. Della Mae Nation Shelton, age 49, of Lonesome Dove Drive, Blairsville, passed away on Sunday evening, April 9, 2000 at her home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Shelton was born on May 26, 1950 in Union County, the daughter of the late John Henry Nation and Novalee Potts Nation.  She was a lifelong resident of Union County and was a member of the late Antioch Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Shelton are her husband, Loyd Shelton, of Blairsville; one son and daughter in law, Douglas and Jennifer Shelton of Grayson, GA; mother, Novalee Nation, of Blairsville; two sisters, Willie Katherine Grindle, of Lawrenceville, Shelby Jean Ledford, of Blairsville; five brothers, Charles Wayne nation, of Demorest, GA, Johnny Ray Nation, of Mur-phy, NC, Herbert F. Nation, of McDonough, Douglas Gerald Nation, of Blairsville, and Benny Ervin Nation, of Dawsonville, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 12, 2000 at 2 p.m. from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Leon Henderson and Tracy Rogers.  Special music was presented by Tony Ledford and Tracy Rogers.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Shawn Seabolt, Brian Lance, Roy Rose II, Don Murphy, Joe Dyer and Dale Claypool.  Brian Ledford and Bobby Murphy served as honorary pallbearers.  Interment followed in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

rev. mark towery, jr.

 

Rev. Mark Towery, Jr. age 75 of Blairsville, Georgia passed away Thursday evening, April 13, 2000 at his home following an extended illness.  Rev. Towery was born in Union County, Georgia, on Sunday, May 4, 1924, a son of the late Mark Towery, Sr., and Lula Clark Towery.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and served in the European Theatre.  Rev. Towery had been preaching for thirty-three years, and had served as pastor of several churches during that time.  He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, and also Youngcane Masonic Lodge, #597, F&AM.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Partin Towery of Blairsville; a son, Ronald C. Towery, of Blairsville; two brothers, Baxter Towery of Rockmart, GA and Ed Towery of Blairsville; several nieces and nephews and many friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Sunday, April 16, 2000 at 3 pm from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville, with Rev. Brent Chatham, Rev. Avery Beaver, and Rev. Ray Potts officiating.  Special music was presented by Ken and Elaine Young.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Mark Jones, Cecil Beaver, Hoyt Townsend, Tim Bohannon, Jimmy Towery, Danny Sullivan, and Alvin Beaver.  Serving as honorary escort to the family was Joey Towery, Dan Towery, and Victory Towery.  Interment was in Providence Methodist Church Cemetery.
