Pamela Kay Talbott, 57, of Blairsville, GA, formerly of Duluth, GA, died Saturday, April 16, 2005.

The funeral was at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2005 at Bill Head Funeral Home, Duluth Chapel, with Rev. David Cook officiating.  Interment was in Arlington memorial Park, Atlanta, GA.

A native of Marion, OH, Mrs. Talbott was an assistant manager with First Union Bank with 26 years of service.

Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Megan Talbott, Acworth, GA; daughters and son-in-law, Amee and Kent Timmerman, Whitney Talbott, all of Jefferson, GA; grandchildren: Tyler and Trae Timmerman, Jeremy Timmerman, all of Jefferson, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Bobbi and Herb Sample, Edison, OH; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Alan and Dabney Talbott, Atlanta, GA, mark and Carmen Talbott, Flowery Branch, GA, Carl and Dana Talbot, Tupelo, MS; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Suzanne and Fred Shaffer, Roswell, GA.

Winifred Quell, 86, of Blairsville, GA, formerly of Hayesville, died Sunday (April 17, 2005) in a Union County, GA hospital.  A native of Bosworth, MO, she was the daughter of the late LeRoy Henry and Hannah Tunison Thomas and the wife of the late Ervin Quell.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Christian Church in Greenfield, MO.

Surviving are three daughters, Marilyn Swails of Brasstown, Arlene Golladay of Olympia, WA, and Donna Adams of Yellowstone, WY; a son, Lawrence Quell of Denver, CO; a brother, Edgar Thomas of Los Alamos, NM; and eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2005 in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with the Rev. Aud Brown officiating.  Burial on Friday, April 22 in Greenfield Cemetery in Greenfield, MO.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the American Red Cross, 100 Edgewood Road, Asheville, NC 28804-3597.

margaret ruth shope waldroup

 

Mrs. Maraget Ruth Shope Waldroup, age 64, of Graham Estates, Robinsville, NC passed away on Friday, April 15, 2005 in Britthaven Nursing Home of Graham following an extended illness.  Mrs. Waldroup was born June 10, 1940 in Blairsville, GA, the daughter of the late Charles Shope and Flora Lucille Foster.  She was a twister operator for 19 years in textile manufacturing at Ticaro Threads, USA.  Preceded in death by her mother Flora L. Shope.  Mrs. Waldroup was of the baptist faith.  Surviving are five children, Tony Price of Robinsville, NC; Cindy and Rick Green of Cherryville, NC; Randy and Tina Price of Robinsville; Sharon & ray Collins of Bessemer City, NC; Sheila Waldroup of Shelby, NC; one sister, Mary and Robert Allen of Robinsville, NC; four brothers, Cecil and Nora Shope of Stanley, NC; Larry and Mary Shope of Murphy, NC; Gary Shope of Bessemer City, NC; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held at the funeral home with funeral services held on Monday, April 18, 2005 at 2 p.m. from the Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Max Turpin officiating.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Jesse Powell, James and Buck Shope, Rick Green, Scott and Shane Allen.

Interment was at New Union Baptist Church Cemetery, Blairsville, GA.

mr. oscar blevit

 

Mr. Oscar Blevit, age 90, of Blairsville, GA passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at his residence.

Mr. Blevit was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Monday, August 27, 1914, a son of the late Bernard Berkowitz Blevit and Dora Fine Blevit.  He was the owner and operator of an auto parts store in Chicago, Illinois where he had lived most of his life.  Mr. Blevit and his wife had lived the past five years in Union County.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Blevit, and sister, Sophia Blevit.

Survivors include his wife, Gisela Blevit, of Blairsville; daughter, Nadine Burge of Windthrop Harbor, Illinois; son, Dennis Blevit, of North Brook, Illinois; grandsons: Michael Blevit, of Arizona and Steve Blevit of Malibu, California.

Memorial services were held Friday, April 15, 2005 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with re. Dick Stillwell officiating.  Inurnment was in Choestoe Baptist Church Cemetery.

Rev. Calvin Denny Gray, age 55, of Blairsville, GA passed away Monday, April11, 2005 at his home.

Rev. Gray was born in Polk County, TN, and was raised in Fannin County, GA.  He was a member of Old Fashion Baptist Church.  He was also a member of Dooley Masonic Lodge, #367, F&AM, and had served as Past Master.  Preceding him in death was a grandson, Daniel Lynch, and a step son, Jimmy Lynch; and his parents, Shorty and Merlene Gray.

Surviving are his wife of 36 years, Carol Payne Gray, of Blairsville; sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Tina Gray; Roy and Lisa Lynch, Robert and Lisa Gray; Eric and Amy Gray; daughters and sons-in-law, Trudy and Michael Lockaby, all of Blairsville, GA; and Debbie and George Passmore, of Honolulu, Hawaii; brothers and sisters, Frank Gray and Ruth Jordan, of Blue Ridge, GA; Cecil Gray, of Atlanta; Janice Anderson, of Kennesaw, GA; Michael Gray, of Blue Ridge; Jeff Gray, of Alpharetta, GA, and Jerald Gray, of Ringgold, GA; twenty-one grandchildren: Lydia, Matthew, Isaiah, Braylen, Ashley, Blake, and Seth Gray; Eddie and Steven Lynch, Kelsey, Kelley, Levi, Megan, Miranda, Danielle, and Denise Lockaby; Jacob and J.J. Lynch; Brian, Jamie and Thomas Passmore; six great grandchildren: Jimmie, Jaylynne, Blake Brent, Tyson and Tristian Lockaby.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 14, 2005 at 2 p.m. from Old Fashion Baptist Church with Rev. Hoyt Brown, Rev. Chris Matheson and Rev. Leon Henderson officiating.  Graveside Masonic Rites were presented by Dooley Masonic Lodge.  Burial was in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

mr. john michael calyore

 

Mr. John Michael Calyore, age 57, of Blairsville, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2005.

Mr. Calyore was born June 7, 1947 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be greatly missed by family, friends and all the lives he touched.

Survivors include his wife Susan Calyore of Blairsville; daughter, Nicole Benji and grandson Dylan Benji of Naples, FL; father and mother Joseph and June Calyore; sister and her husband Barb and Tom Clifton of Brevard, NC; sister-in-law Laura Van Gorder and nieces Kali and Trisha Van Gorder of Blairsville; and nephews Eric Carnell of Atlanta, GA and Brandon Van Gorder of Naples, FL.  A memorial service for family and friends will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2005 at 3 p.m. at the Church of Christ in Blairsville with Pastor Terry Stuart presiding.  There will be an account set up at United Community Bank in lieu of flowers for donations to purchase a memorial brick at the Historical Society in memory o John Calyore, a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend.

Mrs. Marjorie Virginia Franco, age 78, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2005, in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mrs. Franco was born in Kings County, NY on Tuesday, March 15, 1927, a daughter of the late Warren Behie and Mary MacMaster Behie.  Mrs. Franco lived most of her life in New Jersey.  She was a homemaker and moved to Blairsville in 1988.  A member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Mrs. Franco was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Joseph Franco, and a brother, Warren Behie, Jr.

Surviving family members include daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and James Smith, of Blairsville; daughter, Eileen Trella, of Bricktown, NJ; daughter, Madelyn Eddings, of Tampa, FL; son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Susan, of Brandon, FL; son, Timothy Franco, of Blairsville; daughter, Janet Franco, of Toms River, NJ, and son Kevin Franco, of Blairsville; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services were held Friday, April 15, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, with Father Thad Rudd officiating.  Special music was presented by Jean Hyler, Organist and Cari Derflinger, Cantor.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Christopher Franco, Timothy Franco, Kevin Franco, James Smith, Sr., James Smith, Jr., and Jeremy Smith.  Burial was in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mrs. Mary Sandra Mitchell, age 61, of Brookhaven Drive, Blairsville, formerly of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, passed away on Monday, April 11, 2005, in Haywood County, NC, following a sudden illness.

Mrs. Mitchell was born on December 17, 1943 in Birmingham, AL, the daughter of the late Albert Hendrick Hubbard and the late Doris Gertrude Smith Hubbard.  She had been a volunteer for S.A.F.E. and had been previously employed at Blairsville Realty.  Mrs. Mitchell attended the House of Prayer Church.

Surviving Mrs. Mitchell are her loving husband of forty years, George Mitchell of Blairsville; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Michael Mitchell of Augusta, GA, Matthew and Layne Mitchell of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; one daughter and son-in-law, Missy and David Thomsen of Ft. Lauderdale; one sister and brother-in-law, Gertrude and Frank Jones of Birmingham; one brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Polly Hubbard of Redmond, OR; brother-in-law, David Garrett of orange City, FL; six grandchildren-Shaun, Teressa, Paris and Meagan Mitchell, Heather and Lauren Thomsen; many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the S.A.F.E. program of Union County in Mrs. Mitchell’s memory.

Mrs. Margie Alice Smith Reddemann, age 79, of Citrus Springs, FL, formerly of Blairsville, GA, passed away Friday, April 15, 2005, at the Health Center at Brentwood in Lecanto, FL.

Mrs. Reddemann was a retired nurse.  She was a member of the Laurel mountain Quilters in Blairsville, GA and a member of St. Ann’s Episcopal Church in Crystal River, FL and a past member of the St. Clair’s Episcopal Church in Blairsville.

She was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her 5 children; Stanley Laskowski and her second husband, Aubry Smith; a daughter, Lisa Marie Laskowski, and a son-in-law, Fred Hamilton.

Surviving are husband Kenneth Reddemann, of Citrus Springs, FL; 4 daughters: Donna Hopper (Lecil) of Lake Station, Indiana; Patricia Hamilton of Highland, Indiana; Janice Newcomb-Lewis (Rick) of Houston, TX; and Cindy McCrea (John) of Bradenton, FL; a stepdaughter, Karen Reddemann of Nashville, TN; and stepson, Mark Reddemann of Madison, Wisconsin; brother, Vernon Bollman, of Crown Point, Indiana; and sister, Violt McGowen of Mentone, Indiana; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews also survive.

A visitation in FL was held on Monday, April 18, 2005 with Father Gilbert Larson officiating.  Interment in Blairsville, GA at Union Memory Gardens Cemetery on Wednesday, April 20, 2005 at 3 p.m. with Rev. Susan Johnson officiating.

Mr. John Kusuk, age 84, of Wesley Mt. Drive, Blairsville, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 in the North East Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.  Mr. Kusuk was born on May 26, 1920 in Hartford, CT, the son of the late Paul Kusuk and the late Nellie Twaywick Kusuk.  He was a veteran of the US Army of WWII.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Sophie Mikos.  Mr. Kusuk was of the catholic faith.

Surviving Mr. Kusuk are his loving wife of fifty four years, Mary Ann Cucci Kusuk of Blairsville, one daughter, Denise Ann Holton of Jacksonville, FL; two sons and one daughter-in-law, John Jr. and Liz Kusuk of Jupitor, Fl, Steven Kusuk of Dania Beach, FL; one brother, Paul Kusuk of Linden, NJ; two sisters, Mary and Anne Kusuk, both of Roselle, NJ; three grandchildren, Joseph John Kusuk, Christopher John Kusuk, and Lauren Alyssa Kusuk.  Many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at 11 a.m. from the Fred Hunter Funeral Home in Davie, FL.  The family met with friends at the Fred Hunter Funeral home Monday evening.  Interment followed in the Hollywood Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Cathy Lynn Thomas, age 47, of Hayesville, NC, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2005 at her residence.

Cathy was born Monday, July 29, 1957, in Fulton County, GA and had lived most of her life in Blairsville.  She was working for Circle K in Blairsville.

Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law, Jamie and Shane Payne of Blairsville, GA; daughter, Tonia Thomas of Blairsville, GA; mother and step father, Mildred and Leroy Thomas of Cleveland, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Alan Hudson of Cleveland, GA; brother, Johnny Ray Berry of Cleveland, GA; special friend, Robert Martin of Hayesville, NC; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2005 from Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randy Hughes officiating.  Music was provided by Kelley Trio.  Interment followed in Zebulon Baptist Church Cemetery.
