Larry
“Bird” Prather, age 60, of Blairsville, GA, passed away at his home
Thursday,
April 15, 2010.
Larry was
born in Ellijay, GA, a son of the late Homer and
June (England) Prather. He was a U.S.
Army Vietnam veteran. Larry was a member
and past President of the Chatuge Gun Club, and was an avid hunter and
fisherman. He had worked as a Postal
Clerk for the U.S. Postal Service in Blairsville and Hiawassee since
the early
1970s. Larry was preceded in death by
two brothers, jerry Prather and Johnny Prather.
Survivors
include his soul mate, Karen McKin of Blairsville, GA, and brother,
Kevin
Prather of Blairsville, GA.
Funeral
services were held Sunday, April 18, 2010 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of
Cochran
Funeral Home with rev. David Berrong officiating. Music
was by the Kelley Trio. Pallbearers were
Rex Patton, Doug England, Ed
Terry, Chuck Gillispie, Knox Garrett and Bud Murphy.
Honorary pallbearers were Daniel Murphy, Ron
Delong, Bob Hughes and Darrell England.
Interment was in West Union Baptist Church Cemetery with
Military Honors
by the North Georgia Honor Guard.

Joseph
“Joe” Smith, age 77, of Blairsville, Georgia, formerly of Lenoir, NC,
passed
away Saturday, April 17, 2010.
Joe was
born in Lenoir, NC, a son of the late Thomas L. Smith
and Mary
(Triplett) Smith. He was a U.S. Army
Veteran and a member of Coosa United Methodist Church.
He was a former member of the Blairsville
Kiwanis Club and an active volunteer for the Meals on Wheels Program. Joe was an avid golfer and boater. He retired after 32 years of security service
from Lockheed-Martin in Orlando, FL. Joe
was preceded in death by his brother, Tommie Smith.
Survivors
include his loving wife and best friend of 43 years Dee Smith of
Blairsville;
brother, Eddie Smith of Lenoir, NC; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ida
and
Doug Cook of Lenoir; nephew, Beau Cook of Blowing Rock, NC; nephew,
Tommy Cook
of Hudson, NC; and loyal “four-legged” companion and friend, Sweet Pea.
Memorial services
will be held at Coosa United Methodist Church, on Wednesday April 21,
2010 at
11 AM with Rev. Earl Bishop and Rev. Steve Midkiff
officiating. Music
will be provided by Earl and Idalu
Bishop and James Stephens.

Billy A. Curlee (USA Retired), age 80, of Blairsville, GA passed away
April 18,
2010 at his home following an extended illness.
Mr. Curlee was born March 11, 1930 in Salisbury, NC to Sam and
Nellie
Curlee. Bill served for 21 years in the
US Army primarily as a First Sergeant of numerous Calvary Troops. He was a decorated veteran of the Korean
War. He also taught ROTC in the Atlanta
City School System for 23 years. After
retirement Mr. Curlee served with the North Georgia Honor Guard and
served as
its President for many years. He was
also a leader in the local community coaching many 4-H BB Gum
Championship
Teams and working with local veterans groups.
Bill was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and
great-grandfather. Bill was of the
United Methodist Faith and was a faithful member and leader at Coosa
United
Methodist Church.
Surviving
Mr. Curlee are his loving wife of 57 years, Rebecca L. Curlee, his
brother Jack
Curlee of Greenville, SC, his son and daughter-in-law Steve and Kit
Curlee of
Blairsville, GA, and Sam and Shelby Curlee of Blue Ridge, GA, and his
daughter
Terri Harris of Villa Rica, GA. Also
surviving Mr. Curlee are six grandchildren and four great
granddaughters.
A memorial
service was held on April 20, 2010 at Coosa United Methodist Church,
767 Mulky
Gap Rd., Blairsville, GA, at 11 a.m., with full honors by the North
Georgia
Honor Guard. The
gamily greeted visitors in the fellowship hall starting at 10 a.m.
prior to the
memorial service. In lieu of
flowers the family suggests donations to the Bill Curlee Memorial Fund
of Coosa
United Methodist Church.

Dan
W.
Davis Jr., age 56 of Blairsville, GA, formerly of Key Largo, FL lost a
12 year
battle to cancer and passed away Monday, April 12, 2010 in Blairsville,
GA.
Before
moving to Blairsville Dan had a home repair business in Key Largo. He had worked in construction all his life, and also worked in security at Coconuts in
Key Largo. Dan was and avid fisherman and
enjoyed fishing
every weekend. He was preceded in death
by his father, Dan W. Davis Sr., and his grandparents, Clyde and
Antoinette
Markowski.
Survivors
include: daughter & son-in-law, Stephanie Leigh and Robbie Anderson
of Key
Largo, FL; son, Matthew Daniel Davis of Key Largo, FL; mother, Rose
Davis of
Blairsville, GA; granddaughter, Kayla Leigh Anderson of Key Largo, FL;
sister
and brother-in-law, Kathy and Brad Sherman of Blairsville, GA; nieces
and
nephews.
Graveside
services were held Saturday, April 17, at 11:00 am at Providence United
Methodist Church Cemetery with Dr. John Kay officiating.

Mr. Allan
David Jones, Sr., age 72, of Pitt Rd., Blairsville, passed away on
Tuesday,
February 2, 2010 at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Jones was born on May 5, 1937 in
Pittsburg, PA, the son of the late Earl Oscar Jones and the late Alice
Virginia
Keefe Jones. He was a veteran of the US
Navy of the Korean War. He retired from
the Florida Power Corporation with over 34 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion and
the S.P.C.A. He was preceded in death by
a brother, Earl O. Jones in 2008. Mr.
Jones was of the Presbyterian faith.
Surviving
Mr. Jones are his loving wife of fifty years, Eulalie Jones of
Blairsville, one
son, Allan David Jones, Jr. of Blairsville, one sister, Esther Albanese
of
Dunedin, FL, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Daniel R. and Judy Jones
of
Ocala, FL, Ross and Trish Jones of Clearwater, FL, two grandchildren,
Ashley
and Zachary Jones, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and
friends
also survive.
A memorial
service will be held on Wednesday, April 23 at 3 p.m. from the Holly
Hills
Cemetery with Pastor Dan Jones and the North GA Honor Guard conducing
military
honors. In lieu of flowers if you wish,

Mr.
Mrs. John Rockwell Kenyon, Jr., of
Blairsville, GA, passed away Sunday, April 11, 2010 in Union General
Hospital. He was 89.
Born
April 1, 1921, in Charlotte, NC, John was the firstborn
child to the late John Rockwell and Lillie (Crowell) Kenyon. John graduated from high school in Charlotte
and continued on to the University of North Carolina until he entered
the military.
A decorated
World War II Veteran, John served as a Naval Aviator in the Pacific
Theatre on
the USS Enterprise. He received numerous
medals and ribbons, including the distinguished
Flying
Cross and four Air Medals, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Ribbon with
three
stars, the Philippine Liberation Medal and the American Campaign Medal. John flew the F6F Grumman Hellcat, part of
the first VF-90 night flight group participating in the campaigns of
Okinawa,
Iwo Jima and the first carrier strikes on Tokyo.
In 1947
he married Jess Clontz, from Monroe, NC. They
made their home in Dunwoody, GA, where
together they raised three boys: John Rockwell, III, Robert Benton and
David
Sterling.
John
worked 35 years for International harvester, and he and
Jess retired to Niceville, FL in 1980.
They moved to Blairsville, GA in 2001, where they would remain
until
John’s death.
John and
Jess enjoyed life together. In their
earlier years, they spent a lot of
time on the golf course, loved playing bridge, and spending time with
family. John often quoted scripture and
was a practicing Presbyterian.
Survivors
include his wife, Jess C. Kenyon of Blairsville,
GA; sons John R. Kenyon, III and his wife, Brenda, of Woodstock, GA;
Robert B.
Kenyon and his wife, Judy, of Austin, TX; and D. Sterling Kenyon and
his wife,
Kathryn, of Woodstock, GA; brother, George Kenyon of Charlotte, NC and
sister,
Betty Graham of Raleigh, NC; six grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren. John was
predeceased by his brother, William S. Kenyon, of Charlotte, N.C.
Memorial services
will be held Saturday, April 24, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. at North Lanier
Baptist
Church, 829 Atlanta Road, Cumming, GA.

Navy. Preceding the service, the family
welcomes friends at 10:30 a.m.

William Ciesielski,
age 67, Blairsville, GA, passed away Thursday, April 15, 2010 in St.
Joseph's
Hospital in Atlanta.
Gary
was born in Garden
City, MI. He was a member of First
Baptist Church of Blairsville and did the Golf Cart Ministry at the
church. He took up the money for the
Wednesday night
suppers.
Survivors
include sister
and brother-in-law: Sherry and Dick Moriarty of Blairsville; brother
Larry and
Mary Ciesielski of AZ, Mickey and Anne Discher of Geneva, OH;
half-brother,
Timothy Vincent of CA; half-sister, Cindy and Dave Duley of Chulavista,
CA, aunt,
Florence Ruth Carnley of Blairsville, GA, several nieces and nephews,
and his Church
family.
Memorial
Services were held
at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 21 at the First Baptist Church Fellowship
Hall,
following the meal with Dr. Fred Lodge officiating. Interment
in Laurel Hills Memory Gardens.

Susan
G. Howard, of Blairsville and Smyrna, Georgia, was united with her
husband,
Harry Howard, and our Heavenly Father, on Tuesday, April 13, 2010.
She was
the daughter of the late Floy L. and E.T. Bradley,
Sr. Susan was preceded in death by her
husband of 59 years, Harry V. Howard.
Surviving
is her son, Richard “Rick” Howard of Powder Springs and Blairsville,
Terry
Howard-Hagen, son-in-law, Doug Rhodes and grandson, Bradley Hagen of
Greenville, South Carolina.
Susan was a
cherished and adored wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Her family-centered life was admired by all
that had the pleasure of knowing and loving her.

Mrs.
Renee
Suzanne Joyce, age 49, of Pat Colwell Rd., Blairsville, passed away on
Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at her home following a brief illness. Mrs. Joyce was born on April 2, 1961 in
Corpus Christie, TX, the daughter of the
late Corrine
Palmer. She was a loving wife, mother,
sister and grandmother. She enjoyed
decorating and spending time with her family.
Mrs. Joyce was of the Episcopal faith.
Surviving
Mrs. Joyce are her loving husband of twenty years, Fred Williams of
Blairsville,
one son, Nicholas Huey of Blairsville, one daughter and son-in-law,
Desiree and
Daniel Ford of Blairsville, one sister, Shawn Burrell of Blairsville,

brothers and one sister-in-law, Mark and Donna Zahn of Houston, TX, Roy
Howard
of Houston, TX, one grandchild, Claire Suzanne Ford, niece and nephew,
Jessica
and Charles Burrell, several other nieces, nephews, many other
relatives and
friends also survive.

services were held on Monday, April 19, 2010 at 2 p.m. from the
Mountain View
Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Helton officiating.

Huey, Daniel Ford, Charles Burrell, Mark Zahn and Roy Howard. Interment followed in the Mt. Pleasant
Baptist Church Cemetery. The family met
