mrs. nellie bridges

 

Mrs. Nellie Bridges, age 90, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2003 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mrs. Bridges was born in Laurens County, SC on Tuesday, December 17, 192, a daughter of the late Fate Moon and Mary Estelle Barnett Moon.  She was a homemaker and a member of Owltown Church of God.  Mrs. Bridges had moved to the Blairsville area over 20 years ago, moving from East Point, GA.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman A. Bridges, who died in 1993.

Surviving Mrs. Bridges are a daughter, Dorothy Patterson, of Blairsville; a son, Herman L. Bridges, of Zebulon, GA; twelve grandchildren: John Chitwood of Blairsville, Dean Chitwood of Monticello, GA, Bart Chitwood of Blairsville, Gwen Nutt of Blairsville, Tina Lucas of Florida, Rhonda Hood of Blairsville, Ricky Bridges of Blairsville, Rodney Bridges of Zebulon, Cathy Bridges, Kimberly Bishop, Christopher Bridges, and Michael Bridges all of Hampton, GA; many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren also survive, along with many friends and other relatives.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 16, 2003 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville, with Rev. Michael Anderson, Rev. Jonathan Hood, and Brother Phillip Fuller officiating.  Special music was presented by Gwen Nutt and Faye Fuller.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Donald Teague, Billy Joe Harkins, Andrew Hamler, Jacob Nutt, Randy Patton, and Daniel Chitwood.  Interment was in Owltown Church of God Cemetery.

bryce e. durbin, sr.

 

Mr. Bryce E. Durbin, Sr., age 89, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Monday, April 14, 2003 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville following an extended illness.

Mr. Durbin was born in Jackson county, Missouri, on Saturday, January 31, 1914, a son of the late Otis Benton Durbin and Delta Ione Hinds Durbin.  He had been living in Blairsville since 1984, moving here from Plant City, Florida.  Mr. Durbin was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.  His wife, Kathryn Durbin, passed away last year.

Surviving Mr. Durbin are son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Doris Durbin, of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Lee and Mel Hegwood, of Comer, GA; five grandchildren: Kathleen Reber, Edward Hegwood, Bryce Durbin, III, Diana Durbin, and Susan Durbin; many other relatives and friends also survive.

The family received friends at the Cochran Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 16, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.  Funeral services were conducted at the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel, at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 17, 2003.  Officiating was Rev. Bill Ernest.  Music was provided by Mrs. Jackie Hill and Minister of Music R. terry Hooper.  Burial was in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.  If you wish, memorials may be made to The Gideons International, .O. mr. jerry randall seabolt

 

Mr. Jerry Randall Seabolt, age 57, of Fortenberry Rd., Blairsville, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2003 in the Union general Hospital following a sudden illness.  Mr. Seabolt was born on Oct. 7, 1945 in Union County, the son of the late Edgar Seabolt and the late Kathaleen Payne Seabolt.  Mr. Seabolt was a Union County native and lifelong resident.  He was a member of the Owltown Church of God.

Surviving Mr. Seabolt are his loving wife of thirty six years, Frankie Holbrooks Seabolt of Blairsville; two daughters and one son in law, Evelyn Seabolt of Blairsville, Tina and Rob Turpin of Homer, GA; three sons and daughter in laws, Roger and Michelle Seabolt, Steven and Robbie Seabolt, Arlis and Robin Seabolt all of Blairsville; five brothers and four sister in laws, Jimmy and Mary Seabolt, Troy Seabolt all of Blairsville, Herbert and Brenda Seabolt of Murryville, GA, Ricky and Terrir Seabolt, David and Lee Seabolt all of Blairsville; five sisters and brothers in law, Annie Lou and Mark Holbrooks, Linda and Jimmy Peck, Rita and Bill Holloway, Eileen Seabolt, Nickie and Tony Gaddis all of Blairsville; six grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 16, 2003 from the Owltown Church of God with the Rev. Kenny Beavers, Rev. Brent Chatham and Rev. Tracy Davidson officiating.  Special music was presented by Rebecca and Nickie Seabolt and Robert Sosebee.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Robert Sosebee, Lenard Sosebee, Joe Sosebee, Charles Duckworth, Willie Pouncey and Danny White.    Interment followed in the church cemetery.

mr. james donald owenby

 

Mr. James Donald (better known as J.D.) Owenby, age 63, of Owenby St., Blairsville, passed away on Friday April 18, 2003 at his home following an extended illness.  Mr. Owenby was born on May 16, 1939 in Union County.  He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County.  He was preceded in death by three brothers, Bill, Audie and Charles Jr. Owenby, and by a sister, Mildren Butt.  Mr. Owenby was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mr. Owenby are a son and daughter in law, Donald and Melissa Owenby of Blairsville; a special friend, Loreane Henson of Blairsville; four brothers and sister in laws, Dillard and Rose Owenby, Ray and Betty Owenby all of Flint, MI, Jimmy and Jimmie Owenby of Hiawassee, Johnny (Pee Wee) and Gail Owenby of Blairsville; four sisters and two brother in laws, Brenda and Robert Wallace of Blairsville, Dorothy Mashburn of Gainesville, Melvalynn and John Ledford of Blairsville, Shirley Brown of Adairsville; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, April 20, 2003 at 2:30 pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. William Sisum and Rev. Leon Henderson officiating.  Special music was presented by Ned Wilcoxon.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Morris Mashburn, Jack Mashburn, Jerry Mashburn Mike Mashburn, James Burrell and Reed Carney.  Serving as honorary pallbearers were: Bobby Norris, Blake Jones, Alfred Jones, Eddie Beavers and Roger Owenby.  Interment followed in the Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery.

ms. lexie breedlove

 

Ms. Lexie Breedlove, age 75, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2003, following an extended illness.

Ms. Breedlove was born on July 16, 1927 in Union County, GA, and was the daughter of the late John and Ranie (Holbrook) Emerson.  Ms. Breedlove was retired from the Levi Strauss Company after being employed for 23 years.  She was a member of the Morganton Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Linda Breedlove of Blue Ridge, GA; one sister, Daisey Patterson of Blairsville, GA; and one grandson, Joseph Breedlove.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 17, 2003, at 4:00 pm, from the chapel of the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Phil Thomas officiating.  Serving as pallbearers were Stanley Turner, Danny Holt, Sam Stanley, Joseph Breedlove, and John Stevens.  Interment followed in the Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.

mrs. tammy lee amador

 

Mrs. Tammy Lee Amador, age 34, of Honeysuckle Lane, Blairsville passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2003 from injuries received in an automobile accident.  Mrs. Amador was born on August 30, 1968 in Collier Co., FL, the daughter of Cecil Amador and Betty Faye Johnson.  She had been living in Union County for the past four years.  Mrs. Amador attended New Hope Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Amador are her mother and step father, Betty and Lee Montgomery of Blairsville; father, Cecil Amador of Naples, FL; two sons, Tren Cisneros and Bronson Cisneros both of Blairsville; two daughters, Kendra Vasquez and Asia Vasquez both of Blairsville; one sister, Candy Lee Amador; one brother, Joseph Lee Amador both of Naples, FL many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Monday April 21, 2003 from the New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Leon McDonald and Rev. Kirk Hinke officiating. Special music was presented by the New Hope Church.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Jim Smith, Gary Hone, Steve Frisk, Brian Watson, David Floyd, Terry Sosebee and Len Dolvin.  Interment followed in the House of Prayer Church Cemetery.

mrs. myrtle gratton wilson

 

Mrs. Myrtle Gratton Wilson, age 98, of Blairsville, GA passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2003 in Blue Ridge Health Care Center.

Mrs. Wilson was born, May 9, 1904 in Greenville County, SC, a daughter of the late Robert Gratton Lebby and Hattie Ivester Lebby.  She moved to Hiawassee, GA in 1976 from Bradenton FL, and then in 1994 she moved to Blairsville where she lied at Branan Lodge.  Mrs. Wilson was of the Baptist faith.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband, William Hugh Wilson in 1993.

Surviving Mrs. Wilson is her nephew and his wife, Joe and Marti Wells of Colorado Springs, CO; although she never had children of her own there were many that loved her like a mother, to know her was to love her.  A host of friends also survive.

Graveside services were held in Clemson, SC at Old Stone Cemetery Friday, April 18, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Ray Potts officiating.  Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 26, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at McConnell memorial Baptist Church in Hiawassee with Dr. Rudy Patton and Rev. Troy Acree officiating.  Music was provided by close friend, Carolyn Gibbs.
