evelyn mauney

 

            Miss Evelyn Mauney, age 83, a native and lifelong resident of Blairsville, GA, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2008 at the Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.  Miss Mauney was born Monday, June 2, 1924 in Union County, GA, to the late Bascom Mauney and the late Beedie Davenport Mauney.  She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.  Evelyn was preceded in death by her sister and brother, Louise Bradley and Harrell Mauney.

            Survivors include: nieces and nephews, Dennis Bradley, Kenneth Bradley, Sandy Bradley, Milton Bradley and Janet Harkins, all of Blairsville; James Mauney of Ontario, OR, Amy Mauney Grubbs of Warner Robbins, GA; and sister-in-law, Ruth Mauney.  many other relatives and friends also survive.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, April 16th at 4 p.m. from the Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery with the rev. Tommy Seay officiating.  Serving as pallbearers were the following gentlemen: Dennis Bradley, Kenneth Bradley, Milton Bradley, Matthew Bradley, Tayler Harkins and Tucker Harkins.  The family received friends at the funeral home from 2-4 p.m. Wednesday, April 16.

gustav coupanger, jr.

 

            Mr. Gustav Coupanger, Jr., age 78, of Orbit Dr., Blairsville passed away on Friday, April 4, 2008 at his home following an extended illness.  Mr. Coupanger was born on April 28, 1929 in Fort Lauderdale, FL, the son of the late Gustav Coupanger, Sr. and the late Nell Hudlow Coupanger.  He retired in 1994 form Broward General medical Center with 39 years of service.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.  Mr. Coupanger was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, Fort Lauderdale, FL.

            Surviving Mr. Coupanger are his loving wife 46 years, Sandra Coupanger of Blairsville; one son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Tammy Coupanger of Pompano Beach, FL; one grandson, Jerry Ayers.

            A memorial service will be held at a later date in Florida.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to Regency Hospice in memory of Mr. Coupanger.

silver lee bridges

 

            Silver Lee Bridges, age 79, of Morganton, GA, formerly of Blairsville, GA, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at Heritage Health Care Of Blue Ridge.  Mr. Bridges was born Saturday, December 1, 1928 in Union County, GA to the late Wilson and Mae Nicholson Bridges.  He was a member of the Independent Order off Odd Fellows and was an Army M.P. veteran during the Korean Conflict, was retired from Alltel Telephone Co.  He was preceded in death by wife Opal Dillard Bridges, sisters, Bonnie Thomas and Fannie Lee Bohannon.

            Survivors include:  daughter & son-in-law, Debbie and Robert Pierce of Morganton, GA; son & daughter-in-law, Franklin and Mandy Bridges of Gainesville, GA; granddaughter and husband, Melissa and Tim Sosebee; granddaughter and husband, Stephanie and Vinh Le; great-grandsons, Ryley Sosebee, Aidan Le and Chad Sisum several nieces and nephews survive.

Memorial services were held Friday, April 18, 2008 at 5 p.m. from the Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Brent Chatham officiating.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made to the family to help defray funeral expensives.

renate sophie fording

 

            Mrs. Renate Sophie Fording, age 73, of Fairview Ave., Blairsville passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2008 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness.  Mrs. Fording was born on December 1, 1934 in Germany, the daughter of the late Hedwig Knocche Reichhold.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry William Fording and a grandson, David Brannon.  Mrs. Fording was a member of All Saints Lutheran church of Blairsville.

            Surviving Mrs. Fording are one daughter, Elizabeth Rivera of Port St. Lucie, FL; two sons and one daughter-in-law, ken and Sharon Brannon of Williston, FL, Steve Brannon of Archer, FL; five grandchildren, Alyssa, Adrian, Rachel, Matthew and Jeffery; many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced.   In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family request that memorials may be made to All Saints Lutheran Church or to the Humane Society in memory of Mrs. Fording.

ruth nellie anderson

 

            Mrs. Ruth Nellie Anderson, age 74, of Blue Ridge Hwy., Blairsville passed away on Friday, April 18, 2008 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Anderson was born on February 7, 1934 in Union County, the daughter of the late Harvey Ross and the late Bessie Colwell Ross.  She was a native and life long resident of Union County.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson Anderson in 2006 and a sister, Imogene Mullis.  Mrs. Anderson was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

            Surviving Mrs. Anderson are three sons and two daughters-in-law, David and Lori Anderson of St. Petersburg, FL, Ronnie and Sharon Anderson of Blairsville and Jerry Anderson of Blairsville; one sister, June Chandler of Arizona; four grandchildren, Brandon, Briana, Cody, raven Anderson and Jonathan McClure; one great-grandchild, Jaiden Anderson; daughter-in-law, Betty McClure; nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at 11 .m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Michael Anderson officiating.  Special music was presented by Ned Wilcoxin, Kelley Brewer, Howard Brys and Ralph Grice.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Brandon and Anthony Anderson, Charles Turner, Raymond King, Kenneth Brendle and Matthew Anderson.  Interment followed in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family met with friends at the funeral home on Monday evening after 5 p.m.

martha jane schroeter

 

            Martha Jane Schroeter, age 70, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Monday, April 14, 2008 at her residence.  Martha was born Wednesday, August 11, 1937 in Union County, GA, to the late Clemon Plott and the late Mary Thomas Plott.  She was a member of Track Rock Baptist Church and was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Grace Stepp; and brothers, N.V. Zack, Bill and Franklin Plott; and a sister, Vera Mason.

            Survivors include: a daughter, Joann King of Dahlonega, GA; son, Keith Stepp of Murphy, NC; daughter, Marsha King of Blairsville; son, William Stepp of Hendersonville, NC; sister, Jessie Collins of Blairsville; sister, Nancy Ham of Dayton, FL; brother, Charlie Plott, of Blairsville; 9 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, April 18, 2008 at 2 p.m. from the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel-Blairsville Chapel with Rev. Michael Calder officiating.  Music was provided by Summer Calder.  Interment was in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were the following gentlemen: Frank Collins, Leon Collins, Waylon Gibby, Nathanael Stepp, Jamie King and Vaughn King.  The family received friends at the funeral home from 6-9, Thursday, April 17.

maureen hellums chase

 

            Mrs. Maureen Hellums Chase, age 78, of Wesley Mtn., Drive, Blairsville passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2008 in the Murphy Medical center Nursing Home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Chase was born on February 18, 1930 in Tishamingo County, MS, the daughter of the late Luther Finnie Hellums and the late Lillian M. Pennington Hellums.  She was preceded in death by her husband, James Bruckner Chase, Sr. in 2003.  Mrs. Chase was of the Christian faith.

            Surviving Mrs. Chase are two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Max Younger of Memphis, TN, Sherry and Terry Doan of Young Harris; step-daughter, Weezie Taylor of Mobile, AL; step-daughter-in-law, Barbara Ruth Chase of Memphis, TN; two sisters, Shirley Rorie of Hernando, MS, Barbara O’Neal of Memphis, TN; one brother, Paul Hellums of Memphis; grandchildren, Leslie Jones, Evan Callie, Jessica Doan, Bruckner Chase, Babs Chase, Pamela Grafton and Tammy Padilla; many other relatives and friends also survive.

gina kay brown

 

            Mrs. Gina Kay Brown, age 43, of Ed King Rd., Blairsville passed away on Friday, April 18, 2008 at her home.  Mrs. Brown was born on December 12, 1964 in Union County, the daughter of Betty Jean Foster Smith and the late Herbert (Hadacol) Claude Smith.  Gina was a loving wife, mother and daughter.  She was preceded in death by her father, Herbert Smith in 2006.  Mrs. Brown was a member of new Union Baptist Church.

            Surviving Mrs. Brown are her loving and devoted husband, Robby Brown of Blairsville; one son, Brandon Brown of Blairsville; mother, Betty Jean Smith of Blairsville; cousins, aunts, uncles and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Harrison Bradley, Rev. Brent Chatham and Rev. Larry Shope officiating.  Special music was presented by the New Union Church Choir.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Eric Wood, Eddie Garrett, Marty Payne, Jeff Deaver, Tim Odom, Eddie Tanner, Darren Reynolds and Dwaine Brackett.  Interment followed in the New Union Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family met with friends at the funeral home on Monday after 2 p.m.
