mrs. bernice stanley

 

Mrs. Bernice Stanley, “Granny B”, age 83, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Monday, April 15, 2002, in Union County Hospital in Blairsville.  Mrs. Stanley was born on Tuesday, February 11, 1919, in Elmore County, Alabama, a daughter of the late Ed Waites and Ludie Whitaker Waites.  She was a homemaker and had lived in Union County for the past 20 years, moving here from Vero Beach, Florida.  Mrs. Stanley had been preceded in death by a son, Jack Stanley, who passed away in 1986, and her husband, James C. Stanley, who passed away in 1990.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Elena Stanley, of Blairsville; sister-in-law, Jean Dillashaw, of Milton, FL; sister-in-law and her husband, Nell and Roy Houser, of Montgomery, Alabama; and sister-in-law, Sue Michel, of Santa Rosa, California; six grandchildren: Dale Stanley, Dean Stanley, Christy Townsend, Cindy Chatham, Cheryl stone, and Mike Stanley; thirteen great grandchildren also survive, along with many friends and other relatives.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 17, 2002, at 11 a.m., from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev. Stacy Dyer officiating.  Special music was presented by Nancy Dyer.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Brent England, Earl Lovingood, Earl Lovell, Rod Carey, Mike Patton and Michael Seabolt.  Interment was in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville entrusted with the arrangements.

bessie patterson

 

Mrs. Bessie Payne Patterson, age 92, of Destin, Florida, formerly of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Friday, April 19, 2002 in Florida.

Mrs. Patterson was born in Lumpkin County, Georgia, on Saturday, October 16, 1909, a daughter of the late Asberry McDougald and Mary Hendrix McDougald.  She had lived most of her life in the Blairsville area, but had lived for the last 9 years in Florida.  Mrs. Patterson was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church.  She had been preceded in death by two husbands, Robert Payne, in 1952 and Clinton Patterson in 1960.

Surviving are a son, William J. Payne of Destin, Florida; a daughter, Judy Kendall of Blairsville; sister, Edna Burnham; five grandchildren, Jimmy Kendall, Johnny Kendall and Linda Melton all of Blairsville, Robert Payne of Pace, Florida and Darlene Nugent of Dallas, Georgia; five great grandchildren also survive, along with many friends and other relatives.

Graveside services were held Monday, April 22, 2002 at 11 am from Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery in Blairsville with Rev. Waymon Lovell officiating.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Jimmy Kendall, Johnny Kendall, Danny Melton, Vernon Patterson, Bob Ball, and Buddy Payne.

mr. augustine j. cocuzza

 

Mr. Augustine J. Cocuzza, age 83, of Blairsville passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2002 in the Blue Ridge Health Care Center following an extended illness.  Mr. Cocuzza was born on April 4, 1919 in Long Branch, NJ, the son of the late Joseph Cocuzza and the late Rosario Baccellato Cocuzza.  Mr. Cocuzza was a WWII veteran of the US Army.

Surviving Mr. Cocuzza are one brother, Vincent Cocuzza of North Palm Beach, FL, numerous nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held in N. Palm Beach, FL, at a later date and will be announced.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in Mr. Cocuzza’s memory.
