Mr.
Garfield Franklin, 86, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Saturday,
April 13,
1996 in Fannin Regional Hospital in Blue Ridge, Georgia.
Mr.
Franklin was born in Haywood County, North Carolina, on
January 14, 1910, a son of the late Robert Franklin and Lora Stines
Franklin. He was of the Baptist
Faith.
Surviving
are sons, Jeff Franklin and Eugene Franklin, both of Blairsville; and
daughter
Marie Ford also of Blairsville; sister, Mary Towe, of the Dial
community;
eighteen grandchildren, thirty-four great grandchildren, and one great,
great
grandchild also survive.
Funeral
services were held Tuesday, April 16, 1996 at 11 a.m. from the chapel
of the
funeral home with Reverend Hubert Legg officiating.
Special music was presented by Hubert and
Betty Legg. The following gentlemen
served as pallbearers: Terry Franklin, Keith Ford, Phillip Ford, Billy
Franklin, Gary Franklin, and Steve Franklin.
Interment was Pleasant Hill Baptist church Cemetery.
Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville
was in charge of
arrangements.

Mrs.
Bessie
Caroline Harkins, 87, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday,
April 17,
1996 in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.
Mrs.
Harkins was born in Union County, Georgia, on April 24,
1908, a daughter of the late William Bowers and Sallie Gillispie Bowers. She was a homemaker and a lifelong resident
of this area. Mrs. Harkins was a member
of New Harmony Baptist church. Preceding her in death was her husband, John
Berry Harkins,
in 1966; and daughters, Clara Mae Corn, 1969; Mabel Hensley, 1991; and
Mamie
Garrett in 1986, and son, Pete Harkins, in 1993.
Surviving
are daughter, Lorena Abercrombie, of Suches, GA; son an daughter in
law, Ernest
and Velma Harkins, of Blairsville; son and daughter in law, Mac and
Juanita
Harkins, of Blairsville; son in law, Rev. Willis Garrett of Young
Harris, GA;
son in law, Corbit Hensley, of Gastonia, NC; daughter in law, Grapell
Harkins,
of Blairsville; son in law, Johnny Corn, of Toccoa, GA; sister in laws
Bonnie
Harkins of Atlanta, GA; Grace Bowers of Ashland, Ohio; and Ethel
Grizzle of
Blairsville; twenty nine grandchildren, thirty two great grandchildren,
and ten
great great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral
services were held Friday, April 19, 1996 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of
the
funeral home with Rev. Kenny Beavers, Rev. Willis Garrett, and Rev.
B.A.
Buchanan officiating. Music was
presented by Cynthia Duncan. The
following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Jerry Hensley, Alvin
Garrett, Tony
Harkins, Sr. Mst. Sgt. James Harkins, Scott Adams, and Richard Waldroop. Serving as Honorary (sic) escort to the family were Ernie
Harkins, Nicky Harkins, Christopher Sterling, and Larry Garrett. Interment was in Coosa Methodist Church
Cemetery.
