harold eugene lance

 

Harold Eugene Lance, age 65, of Hayesville, NC formerly of Blairsville, GA, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2007 at the Murphy Medical Center in Murphy, NC.  Mr. Lance was a native of Union Count, GA and the son of Ruby Jewell Nix Lance of Blairsville, GA and the late Coy Ledford Lance.  He was a US Army veteran with the 82nd Airbourne.  He was the owner and pharmacist at Town and Country Drug Center in Hayesville, NC.

Surviving, in addition to his other is his wife, Anita Moore Lance; four sons, Major John Alexander Lance of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Kenny Ray Lance and his wife Mary Strickland of Hayesville, NC, Corporal Joshua Allen lance of Camp LeJune, NC and Charles Wesley Lance of Huttonsville, WV; two daughters and their husbands, Pegg Ann Hall and Scott of Birmingham, AL and Cindy Lynn Shook and Tommy of Hayesville, NC; one brother, Ted Lance of Blairsville, GA; one sister, Judy Johnson of Blairsville, GA; four grandchildren, Danny lance, Tia Shook, Becky Shook and Crystal Clark; one great-grandson, Conner; and twelve nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 22, 2007 at the Oak Forest United Methodist Church in Hayesville, NC.  Dr. Jackie Sellers and Revs. Jacob Kyker, Bob Bone and Guinnell Hunter officiated.   Interment was in the Shady Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery in Blairsville, GA with Military graveside rites conducted by Veterans Organizations: Murphy V.F.W. Post #10222, Joe Miller Elkin American Legion Post #96 and D.A.V. Chapter #73 and Clay County V.F.W. Post #6812.  The family received friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2007 at the Townson Rose Chapel in Hayesville, NC where Mr. lance remained until placed in the church one hour prior to the service hour.

geraldean loretta davenport chance

 

Mrs. Geraldean Loretta Davenport Chance, age 59, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Monday, April 16, 2007 at Mountain lakes Medical Center in Clayton, GA.

Mrs. Chance was born Monday, October 13, 1947 in Union County, GA, to Robert Davenport and the late Nadean Hughes Davenport.  She was a member of new Hope Baptist Church.  Geraldean was preceded in death by her husband, Gene D. Chance; her mother, Nadean Davenport; a daughter, Tina Mowry and a granddaughter, Jessica Mowry.

Survivors include: father, Robert Davenport of Blairsville; daughter & son-in-law, Tammy and mark Beaty of Marysville, WA; son & daughter-in-law, Dale and Krystal Chance of Blairsville; son-in-law, Doug Mowry of Murphy, NC; brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Martha Davenport; brother and sister-in-law, J.L. and Jane Davenport; brother and sister-in-law, H.B. and Linda Davenport; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Ronnie McDonald, all of Blairsville; brother and sister-in-law, Elmer and sherry Davenport of Wallahalla, SC; grandchildren: Jeremy Samples, Samantha Beaty, Christopher Mowry, Zachary Shook, and Dylan Chance, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Services were held Thursday, April 19, 207 at 7 p.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Brent Chatham officiating.  Interment followed in Memorial Park Cemetery in Gainesville, GA.  The family received friends at the funeral home from 6-7, Thursday, April 19.

henry grady abercrombie

 

Mr. Henry Grady Abercrombie, age 98, of Bonnie lane Blairsville passed away on Saturday, April 21, 2007 in the Union County Nursing Home following a brief illness.  Mr. Abercrombie was born on January 24, 1909 in Fannin County, the son of the late Albert and Josie Wright Abercrombie.  He was a lifelong resident of Union, Fannin Counties and Polk County, TN.  He retired from the Tennessee Chemical Company after several years of service.  He played many musical instruments, but his favorite was the fiddle, banjo and harmonica.  He was the Guest on the Grand Ole Opry several times and played with Bill and Charlie Monroe, Earl Flatts and Lester Scruggs and the Cater Sisters, just to name a few.  His favorite past time was Fox Hunting, which he started at the age of seven.  Grady loved life, his family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, fishing and the great outdoors.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie Chambers Abercrombie; a grandson, Jackie (Butch) Abercrombie; brothers and sisters, Bascomb Abercrombie, Dawson, Hobert and Claude Wright, Reba Davenport, Lula Patterson, Fairy Parris and Bonnie Abercrombie.  Mr. Abercrombie was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Abercrombie are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jackie and Helen Abercrombie of Blairsville, Jimmy Abercrombie of Blairsville; six grandchildren, Jimmy Lynn and Steve Abercrombie, Candy Colwell, Melissa Tanner, Natha Rivers and Robby Abercrombie, thirteen great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Monday, April 23, 2007 at 11 a.m. from the Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Rev. Cotton Harris, Rev. Vernon Davenport and Rev. Floyd Thomas officiating.  A Eulogy was given by his son, Jackie.  Special music was presented by the Bethlehem Church Choir.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Robby, Jimmy Lynn, Steve, Aaron and Daniel Abercrombie and Robby Rivers.  Interment followed in the church cemetery.  The family met with friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 4-9 p.m.

sandra kelley robinson

 

Mrs. Sandra Kelley Robinson, age 63 of Austell, GA, went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, April 19, 2007.  Mrs. Robinson was born Monday, July 4, 1943 in Union County, GA to the late Paul C. Kelley and Blanche Walsh Kelley.  She was a member of Church of Apostles in Atlanta.  Sandra spent her life teaching others, first in Liberia as a Baptist Journeyman, then in the Floyd and Cobb County School Systems.  She has taught the Bible for over 30 years and has been instrumental in starting prayer groups all over the state of Georgia.  Her love for God was evident to all who knew her.

Survivors include: husband, H.C. Robinson of Austell, GA, sister and brother-in-law, Elaine and Terry Queen of Blairsville, GA, brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Judy Kelley of Blairsville, GA, brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Barbara Kelley of Columbus, GA, aunt, Opal Patton of Blairsville, GA, nieces and nephews, Terry, Peggy, Whitney and Matthew Kelley, Rhonda, Jeff, Brady, Bryce and Kait McCarter, Kelley, Duane, Bethany and Reece Manders, Christy Queen, Michael Kelley, Richard, Coty and Tinsli Kelley, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Oscar and Martha Howard of Marietta.

Funeral services were held Sunday, April 22, 2007 at 4:00 pm from the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Helton and Rev. Gary Hewins officiating.  Music was provided by Patricia Carver.  Interment was in Pleasant Grove Baptist Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were: Bryan Roberts, Jack Gibbs, Larry Owenby, Dick Hagman, Bryan Alison and Gary Fausti.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, April 24 at 2:00 pm from the Church of Apostles, 3585 Northside Pwy, Atlanta, GA with Rev. Gary Hewins and Rev. Stan Carder officiating.  Music was provided by Cathy Russo and Stan Whitmire.

The family will accept flowers or if you wish donations, in memory of Sandra, may be made to Leading The Way, 3583 Northside Pwy., Atlanta, GA 30321.

sarah geneva nix reece

 

Mrs. Sarah Geneva Nix Reece, age 85, of Dalton, passed away Friday, April 20, 2007.  Mrs. Reece was born July 2, 1921 to William Arzie and Cecelia Arletha Saxon in the Choestoe District of union County, Georgia.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton Stephens Reece; brothers, Donald and Lum Nix.  Mrs. Reece was retired from WestPoint Pepperell, Springdale Plant, after 27 years.  She was a charter member of Union Point United Methodist Church for more than fifty years, serving as Sunday School Teacher, communion stewardess and officer in the United Methodist Women, her hobby was gardening.

Geneva in survived by her Children, Lavana Gordon, Tony Reece, Rebecca and John Sirmons all of Dalton; grandchildren, Mitch and Amy Gordon of Adairsville, Phil and Cheryl Gordon of Ringgold and Bryan Gordon of Dalton; great-grandchildren, Hannah and McKenzie Gordon of Adairsville, Caleb, Paige and Shelby Gordon of Ringgold; sister-in-law, Blanche Nix of Gainesville, Ga.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Weldon and Naomi Reece of Blairsville, Ga.; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Monday at noon in the chapel of Love Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Mimbs officiating with music by Linda King.  Graveside interment services were at 4 p.m. at Shady Grove Methodist Church in Blairsville, GA with Bob Bone officiating and music by John Nix.  The family met friends and relatives from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday at Love Funeral Home and after the 4 p.m. graveside services in Blairsville.  Pall bearers were nephews, J.E. Hutson, Rick Lance, Bobby Joe Queen, Claxton Townsend, Marion Foster and Benny Cooper.  Honorary pallbearers were Eric England, John Turner, Bill Wilson, Jimmy Lance, Calvin Hood and Comer Saxon.

della mae warren

 

Mrs. Della Mae Warren, age 89, of Donahue Rd., Winder, GA formerly of Blairsville passed away on Saturday, April 21, 2007 in the Winder Health Care Center following a brief illness.  Mrs. Warren was born on February 20, 1918 in Union County, the daughter of the late Wet Grizzle and the late Flury Harkins Grizzle.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Warren in 1991; two infant children; three brothers, Arch, Clifford and Leonard Grizzle; two sisters, Ethel Warren and Ella Lou Cantrell.  Mrs. Warren was a member of Corinth Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Warren are one daughter and son-in-law, Wylean and Hershel Carder of Winder; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Pat Warren of Winder; three grandchildren, Leigh Cain, Allen Carder and Danny Carder; five great-grandchildren, Shea, Daniel, Allison, Dylan and Kelley Carder and Emma Clair Cain; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Earl Pickelsimer and Rev. Paul Carder officiating.  Special music was presented by Dorothy Pickelsimer.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Paul Warren, J.M. Grizzle, Richard Corn, Burless Pickelsimer, Anthony Warren and Jimmy Pickelsimer.  Interment was held in the Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery.
