Lorene
Helen Brown Thomas, age 67, of
Nicholas Circle, Blairsville, GA, died Sunday, April 16, 1995 at her
home.
She was a native of Dekalb County,
GA and a daughter of the late Charlie and Jimmie Lois Seigler Browman.
Surviving are her husband, C.J.
Thomas; a son, Richard Shierling of Covington, GA; two daughters, Gwen
Norris
of Blairsville, GA, Barbara McCollum of Carrolton, GA; three
step-daughters,
Sandy Postell of Mineral Bluff, GA; Linda Bilyeu of Las Vegas, Nev. and
Cathy
Nix of Ellijay, GA; two sisters, Elizabeth Mosley of Tucker, GA an
(sic) Doris
Mosley of Forest Park, GA; nine grandchildren and four great
grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m.
Tuesday, April 18, 1995 in the Oak Grove Baptist Church, Fannin County,
GA. The Rev. Paul Ray Harper
officiated. Burial was in the church
cemetery. Pallbearers were Dwayne
England, Jimmy Frasure, Glen Street, Benny Brown, Tony Brown and Rick
Thomas.
The
family received
friends from 6 until 8 Monday, April 17, 1995 at the Townson Rose
Funeral Home,
Murphy, where the body remained until placed in the church for the
service.

Mr.
Joseph H. Marcell, 81, of Blairsville
passed away Tuesday, April 18, 1995 at the Union General Hospital.
Survivors include his wife Umeko
Marcell of Blairsville, GA; one half brother, Dave Marcell and one half
sister,
Jannie Dewey. Several grandchildren and
nieces and nephews also survive.
Memorial services were held Friday
afternoon, April 21, 1995 at 3:30 p.m. from the chapel of the Cochran

Mr.
Robert L. Poteete, age 80, of Marietta,
passed away Sunday, April 9, 1995. Mr.
Poteete was a native of Union County and moved to Marietta in 1925. He attended the Piedmont and Blackwell Schools
and served over 30 years in production with the Coca-Cola Company
before retiring
in 1977. He was a member of Noonday
Baptist Church and of the Kennesaw #33 F&AM Masonic Lodge.
Survivors are his daughters, Neal
Thomason and Martha Mabry of Marietta; sisters, Allene Medford,
Marietta and
Janette Westmoreland, Kennesaw; sisters-in-law, Lemma Poteete and
Bertie
Poteete, both of Marietta; three grandchildren and several nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services were Tuesday, April
11, 1995 at 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Marietta
with Dr.
Charles Sineath officiating. Burial was
in the Arlington Cemetery, Sandy Springs.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Memorial
Scholarship Fund in memory of Robert Poteete, 56 Whitlock Avenue,
Marietta,
Georgia 30064.

Mr.
Calvin Ernest Ingram, Age (sic) 66, of
Route 1, Suches, Georgia, died Friday, April 21, 1995 at the Union
General
Hospital in Blairsville, Georgia, following an extended illness.
A Union County native, Mr. Ingram
had lived most of his life in suches (sic), Georgia.
Mr. Ingram was a U.S. Army Veteran and was a
member of the Mt. Lebanan Baptist Church in Suches, Ga.
Survivors include Niece, Mrs.
Melinda Huggins, of Douglasville, Ga.; Nephews, Mr. Mitchell Ingram, of
Suches,
Ga; Mr. Michael Ingram, of Douglasville, Ga.; Mr. Dale Ingram, of
Taylor,
Mich.; and Mr. Tommy Ingram. Of Watkinsville, Ga.; Cousins and other
family
members also survive.
Funeral services were held Monday,
April 24, 1995 at 2 p.m. from the Zion Baptist Church in Suches,
Georgia, with
the remains placed in state at the church at 1:30 p.m.
The Rev. Malcolm Chapman will officiate, with
the interment to follow in the church cemetery.

Mayor
Charles R. Allison, age 72, of
Blairsville passed away Wednesday morning, April 19, 1995 at the Union
General
Hospital.
Mr. Allison was born in Union County
the son of the late T. Norman and Lou Rogers Allison.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in France,
Philippines and Africa in World War II.
He was a member of the Blairsville United Methodist Church, a
member of
Allegheny Masonic Lodge No. 114 F&AM, a Shriner, Yaarab Temple, a
member of
the Scotish (sic) Rite Bodies, a Knight Commander of Honor Scottis
(sic) Rite
Bodies, District Deputy Grand Lodge of Georgia, Chairman, State
District
Deputies Grand Lodge of Georgia, Co-founder of Dekalb Contracting in
1955,
Mayor of Blairsville for 13 years, Charter Member of the Appalachian
Shrine
Club and Charter Member of the Local Scottish Rite Club.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth
Allison of Blairsville; two daughters and son-in-law, Rebecca Lynn and
Don L.
Hartman of Lookout Mountain, Georgia and Connie and Barry Collins of
Blairsville; six grandchildren and one great grandchild and one niece
also
survives.
Funeral services were held Friday,
April 21, 1995 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home
with Rev.
Danny Parris and Rev. B.A. Buchanan officiating. Music
was by Terry Hooper. The following
gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Wade Smith, Ottis Franklin, Jake Hogan, Richard Corn,
Johnny
Burnette and Terry Rogers. The following
gentlemen served as Honorary Pallbearers: Ray Parson, Curtis Corn,
Ralph
Davenport, Bud Akins, Tom Candler, All City employees, Troy Acree,
Clinton
Patterson, Ray Rogers, lake Stroud and all masons.
Interment followed in the Blairsville City
Cemetery with Masonic Graveside Rites by the Allegheny Masonic No. 114
F&AM.

Mrs.
Velma Edwards Phillips, age 69, of
Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Saturday, April 22, 1995 in Union
General
Hospital in Blairsville.
Mrs. Phillips was born May 23, 1925
in Towns
County, Georgia, a daughter of the late McCellan Burrell and Carrie
Jane
Burrell. She was a homemaker and a
lifelong resident of this area. Mrs.
Phillips was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church in Hiawassee.
Surviving are her husband, Mr.
Carlos Phillips, of Blairsville; three daughters, Jeanette Ledford and
Linda
Sue Ledford, both of Dallas, Georgia and Regina Price of Marietta; four
sons,
Jerry Edwards of Marietta, Larry Edwards of Dallas, Georgia, and Gary
and
Mitchell Edwards, both of Blairsville; two step sons, Leon and ray
Phillips, both
of Gainesville, Georgia; two brothers, Robert and Earney Burrell, both
of
Hiawassee, and four sisters, Ola Ledford, Elzie Denton, Delzie Hooper
and
Gladys Anderson, all of Hiawassee; twenty two grandchildren and sixteen
great
grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held Monday,
April 24, 1995 at 2:00 p.m. from Pine Grove Baptist Church with Rev.
Ricky
Burrell and Rev. Dwayne Beck officiating.
Special music for the service was presented by Ella Battle and
Kenneth
Young, and Glen and Sheila Eller. The
following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Kennie Ledford, Dennis
Burrell,
Darold Ledford, Brian Wright, James Ledford, Lamont Mealer, Charles
Ledford,
and Rex Burrell. Interment was in Union
memory Gardens Cemetery.
