robert c. quarles

 

Mr. Robert C. Quarles, age 83, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Saturday, April 24, 2004, in Blairsville.

Mr. Quarles was born in Fulton County, Georgia, on Tuesday, September 21, 1920, a son of the late Charles Ernest Quarles and Vira Marguerite Shropshire Quarles.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and served in World War II as a radio operator on a B-17 in the European Theatre.  Mr. Quarles was a member of Coosa United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Rose Marie Quarles, of their home; son, Norman Quarles, of Orlando, Florida, son, Neil Quarles, of Ocala, Florida, daughter, Marcia Cook, of Lula, GA and daughter, Mimi Eggers, of Gainesville, Georgia; sister, Charlotte Chellman, of Talla-hassee, Florida; and brother, Russell Quarles, of Augusta, Georgia.  Six grandchildren also survive, along with many friends.

Graveside services were held Monday, April 26, 2004, at 11:00 a.m., at Coosa United Methodist church Cemetery, with Rev. Earl Bishop officiating.    Military honors were presented by North Georgia Honor Guard.

Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville was entrusted by the family for the arrangements.

william “bill” fredrickson

 

Mr. William “Bill” Fredrickson, age 74, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Friday, April 23, 2004, at his home, following an illness.

Mr. Fredrickson was born in Charleston County, South Carolina, on Friday, January 24, 1930, a son of the late Karl Arvid Fredrickson and Mildred Leland Fredrickson.  He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, and served during the Korean War, and was retired from Delta Airlines.  Mr. Fredrickson had been living in Blairsville since 1996, moving here from Cobb County, GA.  He was a member and elder of the Mountain Presbyterian Church; an organizer, President Emeritus and Registrar for the Sons of the American Revolution; a member of the Sons of the Confederates; an Eagle Scout, becoming an executive of the Boy Scouts.  He taught Sunday School for many years, and made wooden toys for children.  Mr. Fredrickson was very interested in genealogy.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley L. Fredrickson, of their home; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Mike Ingram, of Ft. Worth, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, William Edward and Pat Fredrickson, of Marietta, GA; a sister, Sena Russell, of Forest Park, GA; and a brother, Karl Fredrickson of Charleston, SC; three granddaughters: Laura Ingram, of San Francisco, CA, Kristen Fredrickson, of Birmingham, AL, and Kelly Walters of Kennesaw, GA; great grandson, Caleb Walters, of Kennesaw; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Sunday, April 25, 2004, at 3:00 p.m. at Mountain Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Travis Adams and Rev. Warren Shields officiating.  Military honors were presented by North Georgia Honor Guard.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Allen Flury, Dick Russell, Mike Hardin, Mike Herold, Mike Vandenbos, and Chris Dahl.  Burial was in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery.

ollie gribble rogers

 

Ollie Gribble Rogers, 85, of the Martins Creek Community in Murphy, NC died Saturday, April 10, 2004, at the Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC.

A native of Union County, GA she is the daughter of the late George Wade and Lonie Bridges Coker.  She was a retired seamstress and loved flowers, quilting, gardening and crocheting.  She had a green-thumbed and was of the Baptist faith.  She was preceded in death by her husbands, Dewey Gribble and Harley Rogers and her daughter Novella Raines.

Survivors include three sons, Vernon Gribble of Andrews, NC, L.C. Gribble of the Martins Creek Community, Murphy, NC and Randy Rogers of Chattanooga, TN; two brothers, George and Richard Coker both of Blairsville, GA. Nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, April 12, 2004 at the Zebulon Baptist Church in Blairsville, GA with the Rev. Ronnie Palmer officiating.  Burial will be in the Zebulon Baptist Church Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Chris Gribble, Jeff Gribble, Gabe Gribble, Brandon Rogers, Darren Gribble and Robbie Fannin.

The family receive friends Sunday, April 11, 2004, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Townson Rose Funeral Home in Murphy, NC where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service hour.

Townson Rose Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
