Mrs.
Mary Jo Freeman Mahan, age 60, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Sunday,
April 19, 1998, in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.
Mrs. Mahan was born in DeKalb County, Georgia
on December 2, 1937, a daughter of Christine Maddox Freeman and
the late Dewey Freeman. She had lived in
Blairsville for the past twenty-five years, coming here form Decatur. She worked as supervisor in Owenby
Manufacturing for a number of years.
Mrs. Mahan was of the Baptist Faith.
Surviving
are her husband, Sid Mahan, of Blairsville; mother, Christine Freeman
of Stone
Mountain, GA.; son, Sonny Mahan of Blairsville; daughter, Jodi Rogers
of
Blairsville; brother, David Freeman of Stone Mountain; three
grandchildren,
Jennifer and Devan Mahan and Jacob Rogers.
Funeral
services were held Tuesday, April 21, 1998 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of
Cochran
Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. B.A. Buchanan officiating. Special music was presented by Rhonda
Culbertson. The following gentlemen
served as pallbearers: Eric England, Charles Partin, Paul Owenby, Joe
dyer
(sic), Roy Rose, and Ray Rogers.
Interment was in Union memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mr.
Mitchell
Clay Stephens, age 87, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Thursday,
April 23,
1998. Mr. Stephens was born in Union
County, Georgia, on September 6, 1910, a son of the late Joseph
Stephens and
Emma Kelley Stephens. He had lived in
Blairsville for most of his life.
Surviving
are his wife, Willa Me Stephens, of Blairsville, daughters; Linda
Murphy, of
Blairsville; Gizelle Thomas of Morganton, Georgia; Gwyneth Yaita, of
Blairsville; and Laveita Kollen, of St. Petersburg, Florida; 10
grandchildren,
and 8 great grandchildren; a sister, Flora Thomasson, of Blairsville,
also
survive.
Funeral
services were held Saturday, April 25, 1998 from the chapel of Cochran
Funeral
Home of Blairsville with Rev. Jerry Young officiating.
Special music was presented by Susie
Phillips, Louise DeLong, and Sarah Kelley.
The following gentlemen served as pallbearers:
Bob Murphy, Charles King, Don Murphy, James
Murphy, David Murphy, and Jack Brown. Interment
was in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs.
Mae Smith Barnes, age 89, of Blairsville, Georgia passed away Friday,
April 24,
1998 in Murphy Medical Center Nursing Home in Murphy, North Carolina.
Mrs.
Barnes was born in Baker County, Georgia, on August 30,
1908 a daughter of the late Samuel A. Smith, Sr. and Doralee Burnett
Smith. She was a member of Antioch
Baptist Church and served as WMU Secretary for several years. She was the widow of the late E.R. Barnes,
who passed away in 1991.
Surviving
are her sons, Arthur Gurr of Blairsville, and Ernest Lawrence Gurr of
Douglas,
GA.; brother, Samuel Austin Smith of Americus, Georgia; and
sister-in-law, Mary
Smith of Cordele, GA.; 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 5
great
great grandchildren also survive, along with several nieces and nephews.
Funeral
services were held Monday, April 27, 1998 at 11 a.m. from Antioch
Baptist
Church with Rev. Harold Sangster and Rev. Tom Smith officiating. Special music was presented by Patsy
Davenport and Wayne Copeland. The
following gentlemen served as pallbearers:
Bill Drake, Steve Drake, Harold Murphy, Dr. David Gowder, Bob Millage,
and Floid Schneider. Serving as
honorary escort tot eh family were members of the active and nonactive
deacon
board, of Antioch Baptist Church. In
lieu of flowers, memorials may e made to Antioch Baptist Van or
Cemetery Fund,

was in Antioch Baptist Church
