sarah irene shuler

 

Sarah Irene Shuler, daughter of the late Hayes Hunter and the late Lydia Dyer Hunter, was born on Saturday, January 17, 1920 in Union County, Georgia.  Irene was a graduate of Young Harris College and the University of Georgia.  She married Clarence Shuler on June 10, 1939.  Irene was a vital part of her community and county.  She was an active member of Choestoe Baptist Church and a teacher in the Union County School System for 40 years.  She was preceeded in death by her husband, Clarence Shuler; brother, Howard Hunter and sister, Hazel Collins.

She is survived by; son, Fred Shuler and wife Bonnie of Hiawassee, GA; daughter, Carole Merritt and husband Jerry of Canton, GA; special nephew, Harold Shuler of Young Harris, GA; special friend, Jim Dobson of Blairsville, GA; 4 sisters, Blanche Swain and Doris Souther of Blairsville, Lucille Johnson of oak Ridge, TN and Mary Lou Walker of Fayetteville, GA; 2 brothers, Franklin Hunter of Blairsville, GA and James Hunter of Warner Robins, GA; grandchildren; Samara Nicholson and husband Ken, Christa Parton, Lisa Williams and husband Tom, Lee Merritt and wife Kim; great-grandchildren, Macy Williams, Griffin Merritt, Hayes Merritt, Carley Coffey, Caitlin Sheffield, Patton Nicholson and Sabra Williams.  Irene loved the mountains of North Georgia where she lived her entire life and will be remembered as a woman of few words, a gentle spirit, faith in God and a wonderful teacher.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at 4 p.m. from the Choestoe Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Stillwell officiating.  Music was provided by Bud Hunter and Bill Collins.  Interment followed in Choestoe Baptist Church Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were the following gentlemen: Chris Souther, Bill Souther, Jamie Hunter, Johnny Johnson, Jimmy Hunter and Ken Walker.  The family received friends at the funeral home from 6-9, Tuesday, April 24,

effie lorene rich payne

 

Mrs. Effie Lorene Rich Payne, age 90, native and lifelong resident of Blairsville, GA, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2007.  Mrs. Payne was born Monday, April 16, 1917 in Union County, Georgia to the late Landon Rich and Melvina Flowers Rich.  She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and was preceded in death by husband, Loyd Payne; brothers, Floyd, L.A., Fred, Ernest, Marshall and Elbert Rich; and a sister, Louria Hunt.

Survivors include: son, Lanier Payne and Joan of Blairsville; grandson, Eric Landon Payne and Millie of Lexington, Kentucky; great-grandson, Franklin Lloyd Payne, also of Lexington; several nieces and nephews, and many friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. from the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. George Cline officiating.  Music was provided by Odena Gibson and the Union County Singers.  Interment followed in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were the following gentlemen: Eric Payne, Shirley Rich, Kay Lewis, Charles Brackett, Homer Powell, Wayne Roberts, and Presley Rich.  Honorary pallbearers included the following gentlemen: Troy King and Willie Long.  The family received friends at the funeral home from 6-9, Tuesday, April 24.

gail marie wright

 

Mrs. Gail Marie Wright, age 43, of Cleveland Hwy., Blairsville passed away on Sunday, April 22, 2007 at her home following a sudden illness.  Mrs. Wright was born on October 29, 1963 in Denville, NJ, the daughter of the late Dwight Morrow and Eileen Peer Morrow.  She was preceded in death by her father, Dwight Morrow and her step-father, Isaac Taylor.  Mrs. Wright was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mrs. Wright are her Fiancé’, Robert Howard of Blairsville; mother Eileen Taylor of Andrews; two daughters and one son-in-law, Danielle and Richard Reid of Lakeland, FL, Ariel Wright of Lakeland, FL; one son, T.J. Wright of Lakeland, FL; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Arlene Owensby of Blairsville, Carol and Willy McCall of Bethlehem, PA, Jackie and Donny Patterson of Blairsville, Melissa and Scott Selby of Andrews, NC; several nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, April 26, 2006 at 3 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Waymon Lovell officiating.  Special music was Gail’s favorite songs.  The family met with friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 12-3 p.m.

robert “bob” baxter england, jr.

 

Robert “Bob” Baxter England, Jr., age 69, of Atlanta, GA died Monday, April 23, 2007.  Mr. England was a native of Blairsville, GA, a member of Embry Hills United Methodist Church, and an Account Technician with the U.S. Postal Service.

Survivors include his wife of forty-five years, Ann England of Atlanta; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and David Godbee of Sugar Hill, GA; grandchildren, Blake, Taylor and Grant Godbee; sisters, Joyce Johns of Conley and JoAnne Weber of Atlanta.

Funeral services were Thursday, April 26, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Bill Head Funeral home Lilburn/Tucker Chapel with Rev. Mark Sargent and Rev. Elaine Puckett officiating.  Interment followed in Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Tucker.  The family received friends Wednesday, April 25, 2007 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

fran noel nako

 

Mrs. Fran Noel Nako, age 69, of Blairsville, GA, passed away on Monday, April 23, 2007, at Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, GA, after a brief illness.  Mrs. Nako was born in LaHarve, France, on January 17, 1938.  She came to America in 1950 with her parents, and they became U.S. citizens.  Mrs. Nako has lived in Blairsville for three years.  She has made many friends here and was Parishoner at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Hayesville, NC.

Mrs. Nako is survived by her husband, Edward R. Nako; her three children: Marcia Maier, Jay Logan, and Jennifer Miller, all residing in New Mexico.  Mrs. Nako was also the much loved grandmother of Lynne Manna, Billy Maier, and Heather and Jerry Logan; and great-granddaughter to Hannah Lorraine Wells.

Memorial services were held on April 27, 2007, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Hayesville, with Father George Kloster officiating.
