mr. kermit alfred beaver

 

Mr. Kermit Alfred Beaver, age 58, of Timber Trail, Blairsville, passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2000 at his home following an extended illness.  Mr. Beaver was born on December 20, 1942 in Union County, the son of the late Ernest Beaver and the late Vestie Thomas Beaver.  He was a native and life long resident of Union County.

Surviving Mr. Beaver are one daughter, Tammy C. Rogers, of Blue Ridge; three sons, Chris H. Beaver, of Morganton, Brian K. Beaver, of Atlanta, and Eric Beaver; three sisters, Elvie Odom, of Hiawassee, Birdie Davenport of Morganton, Inez McGaha, of Blairsville; three brothers, Press Beaver, Randall Beaver and Lois Beaver all of Blairsville; three grandchildren, William Beaver, of Morganton, Joseph and Joshua Beaver of Atlanta, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 25, 2000 at 11 a.m. from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Leon Henderson and Rev. Stanley Ritter officiating.  Special music was presented by Ken and Elaine Young.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Damon Davenport, Danny Davenport, Terry Beaver, Tony Garrett, Rod Garrett, Jerry McGaha and Alfred Odom.  The following gentlemen served as honorary pallbearers, Oscar Garrett, Kevin Beaver, Tim Beaver, Keith McGaha, and Tommy McGaha.  Interment followed in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

mrs. helen virginia rose helton

 

Mrs. Helen Virginia Rose Helton, age 80, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2000 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mrs. Helton was born on Sunday, July 27, 1919 in Swain County, North Carolina, a daughter of the late James Rose and Leila Partin Rose.  She had lived in Blairsville for the past five years, moving her from Asheville, North Carolina.  Mrs. Helton was of the Baptist faith.  She had been preceded in death by her husband, Retired Master Sargeant Ervin Helton.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Don Rogers of Blairsville; two sisters, Ruth Duncan and Hazel Carringer, both of Asheville; four grandchildren, Robby and Judy Rogers, of Marietta, Rena and Steve Duvall, also of Marietta, Jill and Harry McDaniel of Gainesville, and Stacy and George Davis of Blairsville; four great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services were held Sunday, April 30, 2000 at 11 am from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home, with Rev. B.A. Buchanan officiating.  Interment was in Forest Lawn Cemetery, in Enka, North Carolina, at 3 pm on Sunday.

In lieu of flowers, if you wish, memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society.  Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville in charge of arrangements.

mrs. mary frances colwell

 

Mrs. Mary Frances Colwell, age 75, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2000 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mrs. Colwell was born on Sunday, February 22, 1925 in Banks County, Georgia, a daughter of the late H.H. Hunter and Anna Owens Hunter.  She had lived in this area for most of her life, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Blairsville.  She was preceded in death by her husband, June C. Colwell.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Linda Jean and Tom Jeffery, of Young Harris; son and daughter-in-law, Sonny and Maree Colwell, also of Young Harris; step-daughters, Elaine Minoux, of Hendersonville, TN; and Peggy Alexander of Glendale, CA; sister-in-law, Mrs. Frances Eggstein, of Nashville, TN; a granddaughter, Shay Danielle Colwell; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 29, 2000 at 4 pm from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev. B.A. Buchanan officiating.  Special music was presented by Neal and Patsy Efird, and R. Terry Hooper.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Myron Turner, Billy Decker, Bud Nichols, Leon Davenport, Neal Efird, and Bobby King.  The following gentlemen served as honorary escort to the family: Wayne Colwell, Gilbert Cassel, and Russ Crawford.  Interment was in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery in Blairsville.

mr. ronald m. webb

 

Mr. Ronald M. Webb, age 47, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away suddenly on Monday, April 24, 2000 in Union County, Georgia.  Mr. Webb was born on Wednesday, October 8, 1952, in Walker County, Georgia, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Haston Webb.  Mr. Webb had lived in this area for most of his life, and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.  He was employed as a cable splicer by a utilities company.

Survivors include his wife, Michele Payne Webb, of Blairsville; son, Ronald J. Webb of Blairsville; and daughter, Andrea Sisum of Blairsville; brothers, Gerald Webb, Douglas Webb, and Greg Franklin, all of Blairsville, Larry Franklin of Ellijay, Grant Franklin of Suches and Church Franklin of Atlanta and Jeff Webb; sisters, Lisa and Debra Webb; step-brother, Allen Ridley; step-sister, Sissy; step-father, G.L. Franklin of Blairsville; grandsons, Michael Jake Sisum and Micah Jacob Sisum, both of Blairsville; many friends and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 27, 2000 at 2 pm from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Steve Youngblood, Pastor William Sisum, and Rev. Denny Gray officiating.  Special music was presented by Ken and Elaine Young, and Dorothy Pickelsimer.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Howard Brys, Mark Davidson, Rodney Quinton, Danny Gray, Gary Jones and Jonathan Payne.  Interment was in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

mrs. hazel sosebee brown

 

Mrs. Hazel Sosebee Brown, age 81, of Blairsville, formerly of Smyrna, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000.

Graveside services were held Thursday, April 27, 2000 at 2 pm at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta with Rev. Clifton C. Duvall officiating.

Mrs. Brown was a Habersham County native.  She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Blairsville and formerly of Locust Grove Baptist Church in Smyrna.  She was retired from Ernst and Ernst in Atlanta.

Survivors include her husband, Molane F. Brown of Blairsville; brother, Solomon W. Sosebee of Blairsville; several nieces and nephews.

mrs. evelyn caroline becker

 

Mrs. Evelyn Caroline Becker, age 77, of Goldfield Road, Murphy, formerly of Gumlog Road, Blairsville, passed away Sunday, April 23, 2000 in the Murphy Medical Center following a brief illness.  Mrs. Becker was born on September 15, 1922 in Milwaukee, WI., the daughter of the late Leo Sitar and the late Katherine Boes Sitar.  She and her husband had lived in Union County since 1986.  Mrs. Becker was of the Presbyterian Faith.  She was a member of the Union County Library Club and also a member of the Union County Crafts Club.

Surviving Mrs. Becker are loving husband of fifty-five years, Raymond Becker, of Murphy; three daughters, Carole Ann Davison, of Clayton; Suzanne Sasser, of Warner Robins, Julie K. Churchhill, of Ocala, FL.; one son, Raymond John Becker, of Greenbay, WI; one brother, Leo Sitar, of Stergen Bay, WI; seven grandchildren; one great grandchild, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services will be held at a later date and will be announced.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association in Mrs. Beckerís memory.
