Mr.
Robert E. Prentice, age 73, formerly of Ft. Pierce, FL, passed away
Sunday,
April 25, 1999 at his home in Blairsville, Georgia.
He is
survived by his wife, of 51 years, Juanita Marie White Prentice. He was a retired
letter carrier for the U.S. Post Office in Port St. Lucie, FL. He graduated from Eminence high school in
Indiana and served in the USAAF in WWII.
His four children and their spouses: Robert and Karen Roxbury,
of
Blairsville; Thomas and Sally Prentice of Palm Bay, FL; James and Leona
Prentice of Blairsville; Kieth and Lori Prentice of Blairsville also
survive
him.
He and his
wife were blessed with 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. His surviving sister Ruth Duncan lives in
Cloverdale, Indiana. Bob was a member of
First United Methodist Church and the American Legion.
Funeral
services will be held Wednesday, April 28, 1999 at
10 a.m. At Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville with Rev. Eddie Herring
will be
conducting the services.
In lieu of
flowers, if you wish, the family suggests memorials to your local
hospice or to
a cancer society research fund.

Mr.
Weston W. Blackmer, age 70, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Friday, April
23, 1999.
Mr.
Blackmer was a native of Rockford, Illinois, and was born Tuesday,
March 5,
1929, a son of the late Wesley Blackmer and Vera Wilson Blackmer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served
in the Korean War. Mr. Blackmer had been
living in the Blairsville area since 1984, coming here from Lake Worth,
Florida. He was a member of All Saints
Lutheran Church in Blairsville and the Union County Wood Carving Club. Mr. Blackmer was retired from the Palm Beach
County parks Department.
Surviving
are his wife, Barbara Blackmer, of Blairsville; sons and daughter in
laws:
Wayne and Judy Blackmer, of Blairsville, Bryan and Elly Blackmer, of
Lake
Worth; son, Royce Blackmer, of Lantana, Florida; and daughter, Gayle
Raulerson,
of Ft. Pierce, Florida; 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren also
survive.
Memorial services
are scheduled for May 1, at 10:30 a.m. from All Saint’s Lutheran Church
in
Blairsville. In lieu of flowers, if you

Mr.
William “Bill” Bracken, age 63, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Tuesday,
April 27, 1999 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville, following an
extended
illness.
Mr.
Brackett was born in Clay County, North Carolina, on Monday, may
20, 1935, a son of the late Murl Bracken and Lula Mease Bracken. He had lived in this area for the past 19
years, and had been the owner of The Blairsville Restaurant for the
past 15
years. Mr. bracken
was a member of the National Rifle Association.
Surviving
are his wife, Connie Carter Bracken, of Blairsville; step daughter,
Crystal
Carter, of Blairsville; sons, Tracy Bracken, of Greer, SC; Larry
Boling, of
Athens, GA; Michael Boling, of Alpharetta, GA; and terry Boling, of
Atlanta,
GA; daughter, Susan Sauerhoff, of Maryland; sister, Gwendola Payne, of
Beaumont, TX; and brother, Wallace Bracken, of Blairsville, GA; 5
grandchildren
also survive.
Funeral
services were held Thursday, April 29, 1999 at 11 a.m. from the House
of Prayer
Church, with Rev. Jerry Helton, Rev Terry Stuart and Rev. Larry Boling
officiating. Special music was presented
by Lois Palmer,
Sarah Kelley, and Claudette Gibson, and The House of Prayer Choir. The following gentlemen served as pallbearers:
Bill Jones, Larry Farist, Larry Bracken, Tommy Rogers, Willie Jones,
and Hoyt
Cunningham. The following gentlemen
served as honorary escort to the family, Tommy Dolar, Earl Odom,
Freddie
Shuler, Jim Poe, John Davis, Harold Plott, and Leonard Sosebee.

Fred Ledford, Jr., age 64, of Wadsworth, Ohio, formerly of union
County,
Georgia, passed away Saturday, April 24, 1999.
Mr. Ledford
was born in Murphy, North Carolina, a son of the late Fred Ledford and

R.T.D. Builders.

mrs. latha mae carpenter lance
Mrs.
Latha Mae Carpenter Lance, age 79, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Saturday, April 24, 1999 in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.
Mrs. Lance
was born in Union County, Georgia, on Friday, August 29, 1919, a
daughter of the
late F.N. Carpenter and Lelia Plott Carpenter.
She was a homemaker and was the widow of the late Owen lance. Mrs. Lance was a lifelong resident of this
area and was of the Baptist Faith.
Surviving
are her son and daughter in law, Steven N. and Patsy Lance, of
Blairsville;
granddaughter and her husband, Dana and Stewart Parson; grandsons, Adam
Lance
and Evan Lance; and nephew, Charles Partin, all of Blairsville; many
friends
and other relatives also survive.
Funeral
services were held Monday, April 26, 1999 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of
Cochran
Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev. Brent Chatham officiating. Special music was presented by The Faith
Singers. The following gentlemen served
as pallbearers: Charles Partin, Eddie Partin, Travis Colwell, Stewart
Parson,
Adam and Evan Lance. Interment was in
Union memory Gardens Cemetery.

mr. lawrence edward thompson, II
Mr.
Lawrence Edward Thompson, II, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Wednesday,
April 21, 1999, in Clay County Care Center in Hayesville, NC.
Mr.
Thompson was a native of Harrison County, West Virginia, and was an
attorney. Mr. Thompson had been living
in the Blairsville area since 1979, coming here from Lakeland, Florida. He was an inactive member of West Virginia’s
and Florida’s bar association and served for twenty-five years as a
special
agent for the FBI. Mr. Thompson was of
the Presbyterian Faith.
Surviving
are his wife, Mildred Thompson, of Blairsville; son, Lawrence E.
Thompson, III,
of Asheville, NC; grandchildren: Heather Thompson Mackey of
Kernersville, NC; 1st
Lt. Christopher Thompson, of McGuire AFB, NJ; Richard L. Thompson, of
Atlanta,
and Chad Meadow’s Thompson of Lakeland, Florida.
Memorial
services are scheduled for Saturday, May 1, 1999 at
2 p.m. at Mt. Presbyterian Church.

Mr.
Earl C. Smith, age 65, of Blairsville, passed away Friday, April 30,
1999. Earl was born February 21, 1934 the
son of
Ernest Clinton and Ann Mildred Oats Smith in Rhode Island.
He moved to Blairsville in 1992 from Brandon,
Florida. Earl was a member of Blairsville
First Baptist Church and was active with the Homebuilders Sunday School
Class. He was an avid hiker and was a
member of the Mountain High Hiking Club, Earl loved to travel.
Survivors include
his wife, Martha of the home; daughter, Cheryl Ann Gaglinoe of
Cranston, RI;
sons, E. Clinton Smith, Jr., of west Palm beach, FL and J. Mark Smith
of
Acworth, GA; brother in law, Dr. Joseph R. Maynard of Venice, FL; and
granddaughter, Kristen Metz of Cranston; RI.
many other relatives and friends also
survive.
Funeral
services were held Monday, May 3, 1999 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of the
Cochran
Funeral Home in Blairsville with Rev. Danny Parris officiating. Music was provided by Minister R. Terry
Hooper and the First Baptist Quartet.
