mr. paul plott

 

Mr. Paul Plott, 80 native and lifelong resident of Blairsville, GA, passed away Monday, April 29, 2002, following an extended illness.

Mr. Plott was born on Tuesday, December 27, 1921, a son of the late Smith Holmes Plott and Nora Smith Plott.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II in the European Theatre.  Mr. Plott was also a member of Allegheny Masonic Lodge, #114, F&AM, and Fairview Baptist Church.  Besides his parents, he had been preceded in death by his wife, Jana Ruth Mason Plott, in 1994, and a son, Gary Garcia Plott, in 1949.

Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Jay Dixon, of Woodstock, Theresa and Paul Binion, of Austell, GA; and son and daughter-in-law, Lanny and Teresa Plott, of Albertville, AL; three sisters: Nan Adams, Alice Hood, and Ruth Cantrell, all of Blairsville; brother, Worth Plott of Blairsville; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 1, 20002, from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev. Jerry Helton and Rev. Horace Potts officiating.  Specially selected music was presented by Ken and Elaine Young.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: J.P. Payne, Jesse King; Carlton Sparks, James Burrell, Mark Burrell, and Dr. Don Pruitt.  Military honors were presented by members of Allegheny Masonic Lodge.  Interment was in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Blairsville.   Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville was entrusted by the family with the arrangements.

mrs. julia angelilna procida

 

Mrs. Julia Angelina Procida, age 84, of Angel Lane, Blairsville passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2002 in Lanier Park Hospital in Gainesville following an extended illness.  Mrs. Procida was born on August 17, 1917 in Newark, NJ, the daughter of the late Otto Sisbarro and the late Angelina Scanzillo Procida.  Mrs. Procida was a member of the Union County Senior Center.  She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband Gustave (Gus) Procida in 1991, a son, Grant Procida in 1994, two sister, Mildred Gigantino and Ester Sisbarro and a grandson, Scott Engel in 1989.

Surviving Mrs. Procida are two daughters and one son-in-law, Pam Engel of Blairsville, Diane and Joe Montana of Essex, CT; one brother, Otto Sisbarro of Toms River, NJ; three sisters, Florence Sisbarro of Chatham, NH, Jean Galante of Livingston, NJ, Mary Rotondi, of Danville, NJ; four grandchildren, Robynne Lawrence, Leigh Tappen, Beth Frasunkiewicz, and Matthew Montana; four great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Services for Mrs. Procida were held on Monday, May 6, 2002 at 2 pm from St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Balappa Selvaraj officiating.  In lieu of flowers if you wish the family request that memorials may be made to the Union County Senior Center, 474 Meeks Avenue, Blairsville, GA 30512 or to the Alzheimers Association Greater Georgia Chapter, 1925 Century Blvd. Suite 10, Atlanta, GA 30345 in Mrs. Procida’s memory.

mrs. alice buchanan

 

Mrs. Alice Buchanan, 74, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2002, in Union Country Nursing Home in Blairsville, following an extended illness.

Mrs. Buchanan was born in Jackson County, AL, on Monday, April 16, 1928, a daughter of the late Joseph Gass and Bertha Wilkinson Gass.  Mrs. Buchanan had lived in this area since 1966.  She and her husband, Bethel, moved here from Cohutta, GA, when her husband was called to pastor First Baptist Church of Blairsville.  Mrs. Buchanan served side-by-side with her husband at the church for 22 years.  She was very active in WMU and choir, along with many other church activities, before her health failed in 1991.  She was a member of the Love Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church of Blairsville.  Mrs. Buchanan had been a computer operator with Blue Ridge Mountain EMC for 22 years.

Surviving are her loving husband, Rev. Bethel Buchanan, of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Donnie Connour, of Brevard, NC; son and daughter-in-law, David and Debra Buchanan, of Baldwin, GA; sister, Dorothy Wade, of Higdon, AL; brother, Glenn Gass, of Tiftonia, TN; grandchildren: Kristi Brown, of Houston, TX; Jennifer and Brian Pressley, of Hendersonville, NC, Whitney Buchanan, and Carrie Buchanan, both of Baldwin, GA; great grandchildren: Kerra and Jacob Pressley, of Hendersonville, NC; many other relatives, nieces, nephews, and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at 3 p.m. from First Baptist Church of Blairsville, with Rev. Dick Baker, Rev. Danny Parris, and Rev. Tom Mewborn officiating.  Special music was presented by First Baptist Church of Blairsville Church Choir, with Minister of Music R. Terry Hooper.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Harold Dyer, Nelson Thomas, Doug Davenport, Hoyt Raper, Billy Decker, and Bobby Jackson.  Serving as honorary escort to the family were: employees of Blue Ridge Mountain EMC, where Mrs. Buchanan was employed for many years.  Interment was in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery in Blairsville.

Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville was entrusted by the family for the arrangements.

mr. horace james underwood

 

Mr. Horace James Underwood, age 51, of Lloyd King Rd., Blairsville, GA, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2002, following a sudden illness.  Mr. Underwood was born on October 18, 1950, in Union County, the son of the late Joseph William Underwood and Annie Maude Thomas Underwood.  He was a native and lifelong resident of Union Co.  He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph W. Underwood in 1995 and by a grandson, Joshue Isiah Underwood in 2001.  Mr. Underwood was a member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church.  He was a US Army Veteran of the Vietnam War.

Surviving Mr. Underwood are one daughter: Jessica Underwood, of Blairsville; one son: Jeremiah Underwood, of Blairsville; mother: Annie Maude Underwood Vitale of Blairsville; four brothers: Rev. Harold Underwood of Browning, MT, Dale Underwood, Curtis Underwood and Jeff Underwood, all of Blairsville; seven sisters: Kathleen Cook of Morganton, Anne Hughes of Helen, Linda Floyd of Blairsville, Sandy Hills of Smithgrove, KY, Judy Adams of Blairsville, Joan Hughes of Blairsville, Vickie Dean of Cleveland, GA; one grandchild: Gabriel Miller of Blairsville; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 4, 2002, at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Tommy Jones and Rev. Harold Underwood officiating.  Special music was presented by Martha Davenport.  The nephews served as pallbearers.  Interment followed in the Zion Hill Baptist Church cemetery with the North GA Honor Guard conducting the graveside service.

mrs. lake cummings bryan

 

Mrs. Lake Cummings Bryan, age 93, of 12 Point Rd., Blairsville, GA, passed away on Friday, May 3, 3003, at the home of her daughters following an extended illness.  Mrs. Bryan was born on September 13, 1908, in Cleburn, TX, the daughter of the late James Walter Cummings and the late Lake Childers Cummings.  She had retired from the Starkville Public School System, where she served as an English Teacher and Publicity Director for over thirty years.  She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Starkville, MS.

Surviving Mrs. Bryan are her loving husband of seventy-two years, Gordon Key Bryan, of Blairsville; one daughter and son-in-law, Lynda and John Yount of Blairsville; three grandchildren and spouses: Carol and Andrew Adams, of Ft. Worth, TX, Beth and Steve Owens, of Cheyenne, WY, Ginger and Gordon Hamrick of Decatur, GA; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 9, 2002, at 2 p.m. from the First Presbyterian Church in Starkville, MS, with the Rev. Stephen Davis officiating.  Special music was presented by Linda Smith.  Interment and graveside services followed on Saturday, May 11, 2002, at 11 a.m. from the Cleburn Memorial Park Cemetery in Cleburn, TX.
