Mrs. Doris Jacqueline Gayle, age 72, of Walnut Springs Rd., Blairsville, formerly
of Suches, passed away on Sunday,
Feb. 22, 2004 in the Union
General Hospital
following a brief illness. Mrs. Gayle
was born on Sept. 8, 1931
in Jacksonville, FL, the daughter of the late Lloyd Pearson
and the late Alice Glisson Pearson. She
was a retired school teacher where she had taught in the Jacksonville,
FL and Gainesville,
FL school systems for several
years. Mrs. Gayle was a member of Zion Baptist
Church in Suches.
Surviving Mrs. Gayle are her loving husband of fifty years, Frank Gayle
of Blairsville; two sons, Howard Gayle of Cambell City,
CA and Terry Gayle of Friday Harbor, WA;
many other relatives and friends also survive.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at 2:00 pm from the funeral home chapel, with the
Rev. G.C. (Bud) Henley and Rev. C.R. (Dick) Stilwell officiating. Special music will be presented by Mrs. Jo
Mosley. In lieu of flowers if you wish
the family requests that memorials may be made to your favorite charity in Mrs.
Gayle’s memory.

mary lou reed
Mrs. Mary Lou Reed, age 91, native and lifelong resident of
Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Thursday, May 6, 2004, in Smyrna, Georgia.
Mrs. Reed was born in Union County,
Georgia, on Friday, May 31, 1912. She was a homemaker and was the widow of the
late Luther Reed, who passed away in 1996.
Mrs. Reed had been a member of Zion United
Methodist Church
for many years, and was currently a member of First United Methodist Church of
Union County. Mrs. Reed loved children
and enjoyed babysitting.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn and Buddy Panter,
of Smyrna, Georgia; son and daughter-in-law,
Ed and Patty Reed, of St. Simons, Georgia; Grandson, mark Reed, of St. Simons,
Georgia; many friends also survive.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 8, 2004, at 3:30 p.m., in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in
Blairsville, with Rev. Eddie Herring officiating. Special music was presented by Jeff Bauman
and Keith DeFoor. The following
gentlemen served as pallbearers: Herbert
Dyer, Milton Badley, Ray Rogers, Chris Dyer, Tim Hunter, and Stanley Mons. Burial was in Zion United
Methodist Church
Cemetery, in Blairsville.
Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville was entrusted by the family for the
arrangements.

travis cook
Mr. Travis Cook, age 64, of Blairsville,
Georgia, passed away Saturday, May 8, 2004 in Oconee Medical
Center in Milledgeville, Georgia.
Mr. Cook was born in Union
County, Georgia,
on Thursday, September 21,
1939, a son of Vina Thomas Cook and the late Avery Forest
Cook. He was a veteran of the U.S.
Navy. Mr. Cook lived most of his life in
Union County,
and was a member of Trackrock
Baptist Church. Besides his father, he was also preceded in
death by a brother, Herbert Cook, and a grandson, Jesse Jones.
Surviving are his mother, Vina Thomas Cook, of Blairsville; two
daughters: Engie Tench, of Cumming, GA and Cindy Coleman of Cleveland, GA; a
son, Travis Cook, Jr. also of Cleveland, GA; sister, Vivian Cook of
Blairsville; four brothers: E.L. Cook, Albert Cook, and James Cook, all of
Blairsville, and Eugene Cook, of Andrews, NC; six grandchildren: Chenoa Cook,
Lauren Coleman, Chelsea Tench, Ashley Cook, Amber Cook, and Jana Coleman; many
other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 10, 2004, at 2:00 p.m., at Trackrock
Baptist Church,
with Rev. Harley Hunter and Rev. Henry Loggins officiating. Special music was presented by Trackrock
Baptist Church Choir. Military honors
were presented by North Georgia Honor Guard.
The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Jerry Cook, Kenneth Cook,
Barney Cook, Loy Cook, Lance Coleman, and Gary Bailey with burial in Trackrock Baptist Church
Cemetery.
Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville was entrusted by the family for the
arrangements.
