Mrs.
Evon Nelson Ledford, age 83, of Corbin, Kentucky, formerly of
Blairsville,
Georgia, passed away Saturday, May 2, 2009 at Baptist Regional Medical
Center,
in Corbin.
Mrs.
Ledford was born Saturday, April 17, 1926 in Union
County, Georgia, to the late John Clyde Nelson, Sr. and the late Minnie
Bell
Curtis Nelson. She was a member of
Zebulon Baptist Church and was preceded in death by husband, Harley
Ledford;
and brothers, Cecil Nelson and Hubert Nelson.
Surviving
family members include: daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Larry Britton
of
Corbin; brother, J.C. Nelson of Blairsville; sister, Evelyn Guffey of
Blairsville; grandsons, Jeff Britton and Jason Britton; granddaughter,
Gina
Chatham; great-grandsons; Chris Britton and Noah Britton; great
granddaughters;
Abby Britton, Amanda Chatham, Bridgett Chatham, Hannah Britton;
great-great-granddaughter, Alsya Chatham, great-great-grandson, Landon
Chatham;
several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at 1 PM from the Zebulon
Baptist
Church with Rev. Tommy Jenkins officiating.
Music was provided by Zebulon Baptist Church Choir.
Interment followed in Union Memory
Gardens. Serving as pallbearers were the
following gentlemen: Jeff Britton, Jason Britton, Chris Britton, Tim
Deavers,
Mike Callaway and Ronnie Thomas.
Honorary pallbearers included: W.C. Nelson, Billy Nelson, Ed
Towery,
Harley Ledford, Jr, D.L. Martin, Wayne Abercrombie, and Lloyd Kittle..
The family
received friends Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at Cochran Funeral Home,
Blairsville from
6-9 PM.

Mrs.
Carolyn
Adams Lancaster age 84 of Hedgecock Rd., Blairsville, GA passed away on
Thursday, May 7, 2009 in the Union County Nursing Home following an
extended
illness. Mrs. Lancaster was born on Aug.
4, 1924 in hall County, GA, the daughter of the late Marvin and Katie
Adams. She was a wonderful mother,
grandmother and sister, who was always a
giving
soul. She was known as Nanny Goat to her
loved ones. She was preceded in death by
her husband, Carl Lancaster in 1980. Mrs.
Lancaster was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs.
Lancaster are one daughter and son-in-law, Faye and Gene Phillips of
Blairsville, one sister, Christine Spain of Blairsville, two
grandchildren,
Stacy G. and Amy Strickland, Nathan and Tonya Strickland, five great
grandchildren, Seth, Hannah, Rachael, Clayton and Mackenzie Strickland,
Dalton
and Abby Mathis, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held on Monday, May 11, 2009 at 10 a.m. from the Mountain
View
Chapel with the Rev. Tony Black officiating.
Special music was presented by Ken and Elaine Young. The following gentlemen served as pallbearers,
Stacy Strickland, Nathan Strickland, Dean Cook, Gabriel Watson and Mike
Thomas. Interment and graveside services
were held at 3 p.m. from the Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in
Hal
County. The family met with friends at
the funeral home on Sunday evening from 6-9 p.m.

Mr.
Clarence
(better known as Jake) Garland Dyer Jr. age
57 of
Gainesville Hwy, Blairsville passed away on Friday, May 8, 2009
following a
brief illness. Mr. Dyer was born on Jan.
4, 1952 in Union County, the son of Lois Plott Dyer and the late
Clarence
Garland Dyer. He was a native and
lifelong resident of Union County. Jake
was a licensed plumber and electrician by trade. He
loved to hut and fish during his
pastime. He was a loving father, son,
brother
and uncle. Mr. Dyer was of the Baptist
faith.
Surviving Mr.
Dyer and one daughter and son-in-law, Ashley and Jeremy warren of
Blairsville,
mother, Lois Dyer of Blairsville, two brothers and sisters-in-law,
Quinton and
Jean Dyer of Blairsville, J.M. and Clara Dyer of Blairsville, three
nieces and
nephews, Craig Dyer, Allison Dyer and Amanda King, two great niece and
nephew,
Ethan and Kaitlyn King, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held on Sunday, May 10, 2009 and 2 p.m. from the Mountain
View
Chapel with the Rev. Jeremy Henderson officiating.
Special music was presented by Lois and Betty
Henderson. The following gentlemen
served as pallbearers, Bobby Collins, Kevin green, Craig Dyer, Jamie
King,
Kevin Chambers and Michael Warren. Interment
followed in the Union Memory Gardens Cemetery.
The family met with friends at the funeral home on Saturday
evening from
6-8 p.m.
