mr. tom berry burnett

 

Mr. Tom Berry Burnett, age 84, of Suches, Georgia, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2003 in Northeast Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Georgia.

Mr. Burnett was born in Union County, GA, on Friday, January 24, 1919, a son of the late Emanuel Burnett and Sarah Elizabeth Cain Burnett.  Tom joined Zion Baptist Church in Suches, Georgia in August of 1930, and was ordained a deacon in 1944.  he married Anna Mae Dyer on May 17, 1941, and was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1944, where he served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II.  Mr. Burnett was discharged from the Army in 1948.  Tom served on the draft board from 1967-1971.  He was elected to the EMC Board in 1971, and has served as a board member for 30 years.  Tom served on the Union County Hospital Board in 1982, when the hospital was first purchased and stayed there for approximately 4 years.  He joined the Scottish Rite on June 14, 1974, and received his 50 year Mason’s apron in 2002.

Surviving are his wife, Anna Mae Dyer Burnett, of Suches; daughter, Barbara J. Adams, of Suches; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Harold and Doris Burnett, of Gainesville; daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl Janice and J.R. Holloway, of Suches; son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Donna Burnett, of Ellijay; daughter, Karen Faye Burnett, of Suches; daughter and son-in-law, Melissa Ann & Lenny Parks, of Suches; sister, Stella Burnett, and brother, Dewey Burnett, both of Suches; Nineteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, may 13, 2003, at 2:00 p.m., from Zion Baptist Church in Suches, with Rev. Michael Wilkes officiating.  The body will lie in state at the church starting at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday.  Interment will be in the church cemetery, with Masonic graveside rites by member of Allegheny Masonic Lodge, #114, F & AM.  Special music by Susie Larroca.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Wayne Adams, Gregg Holloway, Benjamin parks, Kevin McCoy, Eric Burnett, Levi Burnett; the following gentlemen served as honorary escort to the family: Andy Adams, Chris Burnett, heath Burnett, Tony Burnett, and Stephen Burnett.

mrs. ada m. wimpey efird plott

 

Mrs. Ada M. Wimpey Efird Plott, age 86, native and lifelong resident of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Saturday, may 10, 2003, in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.

Mrs. Plott was born in Union County on Sunday, September 10, 1916, a daughter of the late Arch Wimpey and Maranda Souther Wimpey.  She was a member of old Liberty Baptist Church.  Mrs. Plott had been preceded in death by her first husband, Benton Efird, in 1956; and her second husband, Jake Plott, in 1982.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Neal and Patsy Efird, of  Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Geri and Gerald O’Brien, of Gainesville, GA; a sister, Cornelia Seabolt, of Blairsville; two brothers: Everett Wimpey and A.J. Wimpey, both of Blairsville; grandchildren and their spouses: Steve and Kathy Efird, of Blairsville; Susan and Tommy Brown, of Acworth, GA; Lynn and Dean Staples, of Gainesville, GA; Craig and Ellen O’Brien, of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; Anita O’Brien, of Rochester, New York; two step-grandchildren and their spouses:  Chris and Connie Plott, and Cindy and Russell Heath;  Many nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 12, 2003, at 2:00 PM, from Old Liberty Baptist Church, with Rev. Jerry Young, Rev. Danny Parris, and Rev. Stacy Dyer officiating.  Specially selected music was presented by Minister R. Terry Hooper, and Old Liberty Baptist Church Choir.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Craig O’Brien, Tommy Brown, Matthew Efird, Michael Efird, Dean Staples, Steve Efird, and jerry Lance.  Interment was in Harmony Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

hubert jackson rich

 

Mr. Hubert Jackson Rich, age 85, of the Gainesville Hwy, Blairsville, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2003 in the North East Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, GA following a brief illness.  Mr. Rich was born on June 28, 1917 in Union County, son of the late Joseph Rich and the late Roxie Ann Stephens Rich.  He was a veteran of the Army Aircore in WWII and had retired from Lockheed-Martin with over thirty years of service.  He was preceded in death by five brothers: Elbert, Elmer, Russie, Frank and Henry Rich and one sister, Carrie Queen.  He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County.  Mr. Rich was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Rich are one son and daughter in law, Rick and Michelle Rich of Blairsville; one sister, Mary Burgess of Clermont; nephew, Jim Breeden of Clermont; one grand daughter, Kerry Jayne Rich of Gainesville, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, May 11, 2003 at 2:00 pm from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Stacy Dyer officiating.  Special music was presented by Kerrie Thomas.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Joe Breeden, James Breeden, Jerry Breeden, Mitch Farmer, Patrick Zaledzieski and Donald Teague.  Interment followed in the Harmony Grove Baptist Cemetery with the North Georgia Honor Guard conducting military honors.

earnest wendell crisp

 

Earnest Wendell Crisp, age 51, of Suches, Georgia died Tuesday, May 6, 2003 at Union General Hospital in Blairsville, GA.

He was a native of Swain County, NC and was of the Baptist faith.  He was a son of the late Frank and Emma Mae Franklin Crisp.

He is survived by three sisters, Mary Strickland of Marble, NC, Lilly Cline of Bryson City, NC and Sherry Reynolds of Jasper, Georgia.

No funeral services are planned.
