            Warren “Chick” L. Right, age 83, of Wesley Mtn. Dr., Blairsville passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at his home following an extended illness. He was born August 3, 1929 in Milford, CT to the late Leslie and Florence (Eisenmann) Right. Chick move to this area 21 years ago from St. Petersburg, FL. He loved sailing, gardening, working outside, and living in the North Georgia Mountains. Chick was a member of the V.F.W. and Coosa United Methodist Church.

            Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Jean Right of Blairsville, daughters, Candace Right of S. Windsor, CT and Sharon Right of Lansdale, PA, brother, Bob and Cathy Right of Huntington, CT, many other relatives and friends also survive.

            Memorial services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers make memorials to the Leukemia Society.

sonja jo freeman

 

            Miss Sonja Jo Freeman, age 52, of Blue Ridge Hwy, Blairsville passed away at her home Tuesday, May 7, 2013 following an extended illness. Sonja was born July 13, 1960 in Blairsville, GA. She loved the Braves and Bulldogs and playing with her favorite dog, J. T. Sonja was employed with United Community Bank for over 19 years. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Henry and Gladys Freeman. Sonja was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

            Survivors include her loving parents, Sonny and Joyce (Jones) Freeman of Blairsville, GA, brother, Russell Freeman and his wife Sharon of Murphy, NC, maternal grandmother, Gertrude Nation of Blairsville, GA.

            Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dwayne Patterson and Rev. Jerry Young officiating. Eulogy was by Jimmy Talent. Music was by Larry Freeman and Delga Cox. Pallbearers were Dustin Brown, Bill Mink, Logan Henderson, Justin Grizzle, Jimmy Nichols and Homer Powell. Interment followed in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers if you wish make memorials to Union County Humane Society Mountain Shelter or Union County Senior Center.

            The family received friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 6 until 9 p.m.

            Mrs. Laura Mae Turner, age 67, of Ronald Phillips Drive, Young Harris formerly of Blairsville, passed away, Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Fannin Regional Hospital following an extended illness. Laura was born May 2, 1946 in Suches, GA to the late William and Nellie (Garrett) Harkins. She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister. Laura was preceded in death by sisters, Dorothy Johnson and Haley Davis, her husband, Earley Eugene Turner, U.S. Army Retired in 1993. She was a member of Corinth Baptist Church.

            Survivors include children, Tracy Harkins of Young Harris, GA and James Turner and his wife Jamiann of Eldon, MO, sister, Betty Young of Blairsville, GA, brothers, James and Maxine Harkins of Suches, GA, Howard and Barbara Harkins of Charlotte, NC and William and Janet Harkins of Dallas, GA, grandchildren, Shawn, Michael, Kaitlyn, Myli and Marshall.

            Services were held  at 6 p.m., Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Helton officiating.   Music was by John Cochran.  The family  received friends at the funeral home Saturday from 4 until 6 p.m.

donald l. maclane

 

            Mr. Donald L. MacLane, age 87, of Blairsville, passed away on Thursday evening, May 9, 2013 in Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, GA.

            Don was born in Brooklyn, NY, on February 7, 1926, a son of the late Clarence MacLane and the late Mae Butler MacLane. He graduated from Brooklyn High School in Brooklyn. Don proudly served his country during World War II, in the U.S. Navy, aboard the USS Bennington, operating in the Pacific Theatre. He and his wife, Florence, were business owners - they owned and operated the Lighting and Decorating Center in Blairsville, for many years. Don was of the Seventh Day Adventist faith. His daughter, Cheryl Lynn MacLane, and a brother-in-law, Morris Northup, preceded Don in death.

            Don will be missed so much by his loving wife, Florence; and many other relatives and friends.

            Graveside services were held on Sunday, May 12, 2013, at 2 p.m., in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery in Blairsville, with Pastor Valentin Rusu and Elder Ron Westfall officiating. Military honors were presented by the U.S. Military and Chaplain Bob Woodstock, a personal friend of the MacLane's.

johnnie e. robinett

 

Mr. Johnnie E. Robinett, age 71 of Bonnie Lane Blairsville passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday May 12, 2013 following an extended illness. Johnnie was born on Jan. 1, 1942 in Reed Springs, MO., the son of the late Amos and Ethel (Cron) Robinett. He loved to fish and collect Coca Cola memorabilia. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and was Papa to many. He was preceded in death by his brother, C.B. Cron, father in law, E.D. Rutherford, a grandson, Joshua Isiah Miller and a son, Jared Jackson and also his parents. Johnnie was a member and Deacon of New Hope Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Robinett are his loving wife of twenty-four years, Katherine Robinett of Blairsville, his children, Freda J. Wallace and fiancé Jeff King of Mineral Bluff, Edward Bowers and Fiancée, Karen Worley of Blairsville, Dawn M. O’Neal of Blairsville, Kimberly M. Tanner of Blairsville, Brenda K. Castleberry of Kansas City, MO., seven grandchildren, Joshua Bowers, Nicole and Denny Scott, Alexander, Chassity and Elijah Owen, Gabriel Miller and Jasmine Schueler, a host of his church family, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday May 14, 2013 at 6 pm at New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry Sosebee and Rev. Jimmy Tanner officiating. Special music will be presented by Heidi, Cindy and Sandy. The family will meet with friends following the services at the church.
