Mrs.
Estelle Wilson Burns, 91, of Union County Nursing Home, Blairsville,
formerly
of Sardis Community, Hartwell, widow of the late Thomas H. “Tom” Burns,
died Sunday, May 5, at Union County Nursing Home.
Born in
Union County, Georgia, she was the daughter of the
late Isaac T. and Jane Nix Wilson. Mrs.
Burns was a graduate of the Georgia Baptist School of Nursing, a
retired Nurse
Anesthesist (sic), where she worked at Grady, Egleston, Emory and
Scottish Rite
Hospitals. She was a member of the
Sardis Baptist Church, Hartwell.
Survivors
include one grandson: Thomas C. Krohn of Honolulu, Hawaii; one
granddaughter,
Elenor Jane Krohn of Encinitas, California; nephew, Derrick Barrentine
of
Blairsville. Mrs. Burns was preceded in
death by one daughter: Evelyn Burns Krohn.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, May 8, 1996, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of
the
Strickland Funeral Home with Dr. Marshall Tribble officiating. Burial will be in the Sardis Baptist Church
cemetery (sic).

Mr. Lum
O. Brown, 88, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Monday, May 6, 1996
at his
home.
Mr. Born
(sic) was born on June 5, 19075 (sic), in Unionc
(sic) County, Georgia, a son of the late Sherman Brown and Alice Berry
Brown. He was a farmer and a lifelong
resident of this area. Mr. Brown was a
member of Coosa Methodist Church. Mr.
Brown was preceded in death by two daughters: Kathy Brown, and Brenda
Brown,
and a son, Wayne Brown.
Surviving are
his wife, Mrs. Bennie Fortenberry Brown, of the home; nine children:
daughters-Florence Winkler, Velma Harkins, Clara Dyer and Bonnie
Henderson, of
Blairsville and Shirley Burnett of Gainesville, GA; sons-Robert Brown
of
Smyrna, GA, Joe Brown of Blairsville, Lum Brown, Jr., of Marietta, and
Jack
Brown, of Blairsville; 25 grandchildren; 13 great-children (sic), and
five
great, great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral
services were held on Wednesday, May 8, 1996 at 2 p.m., from the chapel
of the
funeral home with Reverend Horace Potts and Reverend Eugene Holder
officiating. Special
music was presented by Willaree
Davenport, Ned Wilcoxon, and Lewis Smith.
The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Herbert Hedden,
Terry
Hedden, William Winkler, James Harkins, Ernie Harkins, Tim Brown and
Doug
Brown. Serving as honorary escort to the
family were John Franklin and Clyde Helton.
Interment was
held at Coosa Methodist church cemetery (sic).
Cochran
Funeral Home of Blairsville was in
charge of the arrangements.

Mrs.
Mary Jane Pickelsimer, 76, of Suches, Georgia, passed away Thursday,
May 9,
1996 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.
Mrs.
Pickelsimer was born in Union County, Georgia, on May
8, 1920, a daughter of the late Lewis Grizzle and Milberry Jarrard
Grizzle. She was a homemaker and a life
long resident of this area. Mrs.
Pickelsimer was a member of Corinth Baptist Church and was the widow of
the
late Hubert Pickelsimer, who passed away in 1983.
Surviving
are son and daughter in law, Sylvan and Linda Pickelsimer, of Suches;
daughter
and son in law, Eloise and Jimmy Snider, of Dahlonega; and daughter and
son in
law, Carolyn and Bill Coker, of Suches; four sisters: Grapelle
Pickelsimer of
Suches; Elizabeth Carder of Cumming, GA; Julia Grizzle and Grace
Abercrombie,
both of Blairsville; and a brother, Grady Grizzle, of Suches; six
grandchildren
and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral
services were held Saturday, May 11, 1996 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of
the
funeral Home with Rev. Don Hood, Rev. Waymon Lovell, and Rev. Ray Potts officiating. Special music was presented by Kenneth and
Elaine Young. The following gentlemen
served as pallbearers: Mitchell Pickelsimer, Terry Pickelsimer, Tim
Davis, Tim
Kanaday, Kurt Warren, and Vaughn Grizzle.
Interment was in Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Riley
Thomas 81, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Saturday, may 11, 1996
in
Chatuge Regional Nursing Home in Hiawassee, Georgia.
Mr.
Thomas was born July 30, 1914 in Towns County, Georgia, a
son of the late Dock Thomas and Sarah Keys Thomas.
he (sic) had lived
most of his life in Union County. Mr.
Thomas was of the Baptist faith. Mr.
Thomas was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie ridges Thomas,
daughter, Ruth
Arrowood, and son, Cecil Thomas.
Survivors
include three children: Sarah Mae Cowart, of Hiawassee, GA; Douglas
Thomas of
Blairsville, GA; and Frances Woods, of Toccoa, GA; sister, marie (sic)
Gunnell,
of Blairsville; half brothers, Rev. Claud Thomas of Blairsville, GA;
and Willis
Thomas of Cornelia, GA; half sisters, Annie M. Thomas and Dorothy
Hughes of
Blairsville and Geneva Lovell of Gainesville, GA; twenty grandchildren
and
several great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral
services were held Monday, May 13, 1996 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of
the
funeral home with Rev. Willis Garrett officiating.
Special music was presented by Kenneth and
Elaine Young. The following gentlemen
served as pallbearers: Gene Maney, Jason Thomas, Danny Hughes, Tony
Hughes,
Larry Thomas, and Dale Underwood. Interment
was in Harmony Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
