Mrs. Judy White, age 66, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Monday, may 9, 2005, in Union General Hospital.

Mrs. White was born in OH, a daughter of the late George F. Burton, Jr. and Helen Vesta Sanford Burton.  She had lived in Blairsville since 1990, moving here from Ft. Myers, FL.  Mrs. White attended the House of Prayer Interdenominational Church, where she was a member of the House of Prayer Church Choir.  Mrs. White had been very active in church work during most of her life.  While her children were young, she had been active in 4-H.

Survivors include her husband, Merle White, of Blairsville; son, Ted White, of Greenville, SC; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa Sue and Wesley Hollingsworth, of Clayton, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Lory Ann White, of Bryson City, NC; two sisters, Carol Hall and Naomi Simmer, both of Avon Park, FL; six grandchildren, Ted White, Jr., Tristan White, Tafton White, Nathaniel Hollingsworth, Tiphany White, Jonathan White; six great grandchildren, Shai White, Izabella White, Blake White, Gage White, Bailey White and Gabriel White.

Funeral services were scheduled for Thursday, May 12, 2005 at 2 p.m. at The House of Prayer Interdenominational Church with Rev. Jerry Helton and Rev. Bobby Jones officiating.  Burial was in the House of Prayer Church cemetery.

mr. robert w. jones

 

Mr. Robert W. Jones, age 72, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2005 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mr. Jones was a native and lifelong resident of Union County, and a member of First United Methodist Church of Union County.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Dock and Maude Jones; a brother, John Bright Jones, and two brothers-in-law, Dr. Loyd C. Yeargin and Rufus Cearley.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Brown Jones of Blairsville; daughter, Debi J. Weatherford of Marietta; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Lycia Jones of Blairsville; two sisters: Ruth Cearley, of Harrisonburg, VA and Ruby Yeargin of Dalton, GA; sister-in-law, Carrie Jones of Culpepper, VA; grandson, Christopher Martin; three granddaughters: Ashton, Kelci and Mikala Jones.  Many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were scheduled for Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Union County with Rev. Jan Devereaux and Rev. Eddie Herring officiating.  Burial will be in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery.

joann hicks long

 

Mrs. JoAnn Hicks Long age 71 of Spencer, TN, formerly of Blairsville passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2005 in Spencer, TN following an extended illness.  Mrs. Long was born on Jan. 5, 1934 in Atlanta, Ga., the daughter of the late William Francis Hicks and the late Minnie Pearl Parker Hicks.  She had graduated O’Keefe High School in Atlanta and than attended LPN School in Atlanta and Pasadena, TX.  She had practiced as an LPN several years before her retirement.  She was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and Jimmie Hicks.  Mrs. Long was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Long are loving husband, Alvin Long of Spencer, TN; one son, Danny Long of Houston, TX; three daughters and son in laws, Brenda and Steve Peterson of Spencer, TN, Sandra and Lee Acker of Kannapolis, NC, Sherri and Bill Boyer of Salina, KS; four brothers and sister in laws, Harry and Betty Hicks of Lawrenceville, GA, Terry and Sachiko Hicks of Indianapolis, IN, Raymond and Juanita Hicks of Chatsworth, GA, Church and Linda Hicks of Lawrenceville, GA; one sister and brother in law, Carolyn and Ronnie Carter of Yatesville, GA, eleven grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services was held on Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at 11 a.m. from the Philadelphia Baptist Church with the Rev. Worth Chastain officiating.  Special music was presented by Becky Rogers.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Terry Long, Chip Long, Harry Hicks, Chuck Hicks, Vernon Patterson, Terry Hicks and Dub Hicks.  Interment followed in the Church cemetery.

mr. lucius pierson young

 

Mr. Lucius Pierson Young, age 81, of Blairsville passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2005 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.  Mr. Young was born on Oct. 18, 1923 in Philadelphia, PA., the son of the late Lucius Pierson Young and the late Margarett Ann Everwine Young.  Lucius was a life member of the Woodrow Wilson Chapter #11, of Blairsville, the DAV, 82nd Airborne Association, a member of the 325th Glider Infantry Association, 82nd Airborne.  He was also an active member of six Genealogy and Historical Societies.  He is a purple Heart recipient of WWII serving our country proudly.  Along with many other medals which he received are, Good conduct medal, European African-Middle East Ribbon, distinguished unit badge combat infantry badge and glider badge.

Mr. Young is survived by his loving wife of forty three years, Gladys Thompson Young of Blairsville, one daughter, Dianne R. King of Blairsville, one son, William E. Ringel III of TN., brother, Walter H. Young of NJ., sister-in-law, Mae Young of NJ., grandchildren, Kenneth Ringel of Blairsville, Kevin Exner of FL., Danny Ringel of TN., Laura Makuk Holmes of Monroe, GA.,  Many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2005 At 4:00 pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Eddie Herring officiating.  Special music will be presented by Ken and Elaine Young.  The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Ken Ringel, Bob Frank, James Passmore, Andy Holmes, Gary Young and Bob Eckerdt.  Interment will follow in the Georgia National Cemetery at a later date.

mr. t.j. dyer

 

Mr. T.J. Dyer age 65 of the Blue Ridge Why. Blairsville passed away on Monday May 9, 2005 in the Chatuge Regional Hospital following an extended illness.  Mr. Dyer was born on August 31, 1939 in Towns County, GA, the son of the late Frank Dyer and the late Lola West Dyer.  He was a lifelong resident of Union County.  Mr. Dyer was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mr. Dyer are his loving wife of forty three years, Patsy Chloe Harkins Dyer of Blairsville, one daughter, Patricia Lynn Dyer of Blairsville, one son and daughter in law, Tommy Allen, and Patricia Ann Dyer of Blairsville, three sisters and one brother in law, Betty and Bill Marolf of Alto, GA, Lois Mason of Blairsville, Velma Crawford of Chicago, IL, one brother, Lloyd Dyer of Gillsville, GA, two grandchildren, Apollo Lee Dyer and Zackery Dyer of Blairsville, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held at a later date and will announced.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to your favorite charity in Mr. Dyers memory.

mrs. velma gregory watkins

 

Mrs. Velma Gregory Watkins, age 87, of Suches, GA, passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2005 in Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, TN.  Mrs. Watkins was born in Madison County, GA on Sunday, November 25, 1917, a daughter of the late Joe Gregory and Isabelle Harkins Gregory.  She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church (The Hill Church) in Suches.  Her husband, Willie Watkins, and a brother Harley Gregory, preceded her in death.

Survivors include: daughters and sons-in-law, Mildred and Willard Levi of Tampa, FL; Marie and Harold Long of Suches; Marvine and Tommy Crawford, of Blairsville, GA; Irene and Ron Troy of Suches; Katheline and LeRoy Head of Cumming, GA; Patricia and Robert Simmonds of Gainesville; Dianne and Merritt Wilson, Gainesville; Betty and William Dailey of Suches; Cecilia and Gary Rutledge of Gainesville; daughters: Florine Chastain of Suches and Shirley Watkins of Austell, GA; sons: J.N. Watkins of Gainesville and Larry Watkins of Suches; three sisters: Ella Watkins and Lula Mae Parker, both of Suches; Effie Lou Blackburn of Blairsville; and one brother, Arvil Gregory of Blairsville; thirty-one grandchildren, forty-one great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild also survive.

Funeral services were scheduled for Thursday, may 12, 2005 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville, with Rev. Willard Levi officiating.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Michael Long, Tom Crawford, Kenny Chastain, Randy Simmonds, Gerald Simmonds, Robert Dailey, Tim Pickelsimer and Terry Pickelsimer.  Burial was in Pleasant Valley Baptist Church cemetery.

mrs. joanne marie lentz swindler

 

Mrs. Joanne Marie Lentz Swindler, age 71, of Oakcrest Dr., Blairsville, formerly of Ft. Pierce, FL, and also of Crawfordsville, IN, passed away on Wednesday, may 11, 2005 at her home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Swindler was born on August 24, 1933 in Middletown, OH, the daughter of the late Robert Lentz and the late Bertha Ayres Lentz.  Mrs. Swindler was a member of the Coosa United Methodist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Swindler are her loving husband of fifty two years, James H. (Jim) Swindler of Blairsville, one son and daughter-in-law, James and Elena Swindler of Lawrenceville, GA; three daughters and sons-in-law, Judi and Ron Smith of Blairsville, Sandy Londo and Fiance, Terry Ingraham of Port St. Lucie, FL, Jacquie and Leo Huls of Sacremento, GA; one brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Cheryl Lentz of Mocksville, NC; two sisters and one brothers-in-law, Harriet and Ralph Giger and Marjorie Buhro all of Ft. Pierce, FL; six grandchildren, Sean and Nicole Londo, Jeremy and Angela Huls, Kendra and Jon Swindler, several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, may 21, 2005 at 10 a.m. from the Coosa United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jon Herrin officiating.  Special music will be presented by Otto Jordan and Jerry Lavalley and Idalu and Earl Bishop.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  Flowers are accepted or in lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Coosa United Methodist Church building fund in Mrs. Swindler’s memory.
