Debbie
Jean Lance Phillips, age 55 of Blairsville, GA, passed away Tuesday,
May 11,
2010 at her residence.
Debbie
was born Thursday, July 15, 1954 in Ft. Belvoir, VA,
to Lougene Cheek Lance of Blairsville and the late Charles Lance. She
was a
member of Blairsville City Council, a secretary for Georgia Boot for
many years
and coached Recreational (sic) girls
softball and
basketball for several years. Debbie
worked as distribution manager for Blue Ridge Textile.
Surviving,
in addition to her mother, are her daughter & son-in-law, Ashley
& John
Davis; daughter, Kayla Phillips, all of Blairsville; sister &
brother-in-law Vickie & Earl Brackett of Blairsville; sister &
brother-in-law, Rita & Terry Hughes; and sister &
brother-0in-law,
Kathy & Jeff Butt, all of Young Harris; granddaughter, Kamryn Mull;
step-0brother, Brian Thomas of Flowery Branch, Georgia; and several
nieces and
nephews.
Funeral
services were held Thursday, May 13, 2010 at 5 PM from the Cochran
Funeral Home
Chapel with Rev. Tommy Jenkins and Rev. Ray Potts officiating. Music was provided by Casey Jones and Leigha
Jones, Katherine Nelson and Greg Waller.
Interment was in Union memory Gardens Cemetery in Blairsville. Serving as pallbearers were the following
gentlemen: W.C. Nelson, Jeremy Smith, Jeff Taylor, Terry Hughes, Jeff
Butt and
Tim Taylor. Honorary pallbearers
included: Rhonda MaHan, Crystal Davenport, Gail Gowder, Susan McCollum,
Karen
Gillispie, Doris Bridges, Sue Pack, Rachel Cole, Linda Huntemann, and
Carole
Turner.
The family received
friends Wednesday, May 12, 2010 from 6-9 PM at the funeral home.

Mr.
Robert
Gordon Peters are 78 of Everett Rd., Blairsville passed away on
Wednesday, May
12, 2010 following an extended illness.
Mr. Peters was born on February 7, 1932 I Tampa, FL, the son of
the late
P. Hubert Peters and the late Carolyn Martha Slocum Peters. He was a veteran of the US National
Guard. He was a loving husband, father,
brother and grandfather. Robert loved
his church and loved the Lord. Robert
also the North Georgia Mountains. He was
preceded in death by a son, Ronald Peters and a brother, Henry Peters. Mr. Peters was a member of the First Baptist
Church of Blairsville.
Surviving
Mr. Peters are his loving wife of thirty-one years, Ruth Ann Kauffman
of
Blairsville, two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert (Bud) Peters and
Mary Soars
of Blairsville, Marshall A. and Barbara Peters of State College, PA,
two
stepsons and one daughter-in-law, Eric K. and Vanessa Harvey of
Houston, TX,
Daniel R. Harvey of Blairsville, one sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn
and
David Maclaren of Clearwater, FL, seven grandchildren, two step
grandchildren, many
other relatives and friends also survive.
A memorial
service will be held on Thursday, May 20, 2010 at 11 a.m. from the
Mountain
View chapel with Dr. Fred Lodge officiating.
Special music will be presented by Dan Lockmiller.
In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family
requests that memorials may be made to the First Baptist church
Building Fund
or to Gideon’s International in memory of Mr. Peters.
The family will meet with friends at the
funeral home on Thursday from 10-11 a.m.

Barbara
I. Lee, age 74, of Blairsville, GA, formerly of Lyndon, IL, passed away
on
Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at Piedmont Hospital, Atlanta, GA.
Barbara was born January 6, 1936 in Morrison,
IL, the daughter of James D. and Bertha Howe.
Barbara was educated in the Morrison Grade Schools and was a
graduate of
Morrison High School, Morrison, IL.
Barbara was employed as bookkeeper for the Whiteside County
Health
Department until retiring in 1992 when she moved to Blairsville, GA. Following retirement she was employed by the
Mental Health Clinic, Hiawassee, GA.
Barbara was a member of Coosa United Methodist Church,
Blairsville, GA
and very active in most of the church’s ministries and activities. She was a member of the Daughters of the
American Revolution, the Red Hat Society and several book clubs in
Blairsville. Barbara was a passionate
genealogist and
active in historical societies in Illinois and Georgia.
She enjoyed spending time with family, especially her
grandchildren. She married Frank B. Lee
on November 16, 1957 in Elgin, IL. He
preceded her in death on March 20, 2003.
She was also predeceased by her parents, a daughter Kathleen
Taggart,
and a granddaughter Rebecca Lee.
Barbara is
survived by three daughters, Melody Lee, Elgin, IL, Michelle Lee,
Marietta, GA,
Marcia (Lee) Cox, Myakka City, FL; Frank (Minnie) Lee, Wayne, IL,
Michael
(Lori) Lee, Prophetstown, IL, Matthew (LuEllen) Lee, Morrison, IL,
Martin Lee,
Douglasville, GA; 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, many great
great
grandchildren, one brother Daniel Howe of Franklin, KY.
Funeral
services were held at 7 PM on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at the Morrison
Chapel –
Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home with cremation rites following.
Pastor Bob Burton of Bethesda Lutheran
Church, Morrison, IL, officiated.
Visitation was 5-7 PM Sunday, May 16, 2010 at the Morrison
Chapel,
Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Inurnment at Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison, IL. Memorials may be made to: Coosa United

Mr. Felix
F. Bevis, age 96, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Thursday, May 13,
2010 in
Mineral Bluff, GA.
Mr. Bevis was born in Jackson
County, FL, on Sunday, September 28, 1913, a son of the late Flavious
“Flake”
Bevis and Ruby Peterson Bevis. He was a
veteran of the U.S. navy, and served during World War II.
He had worked as a planner for a U.S. Naval
Air Station. Mr. Bevis was a member of
the Masons. He had been preceded in
death by his wife, Ethel Greene Bevis.
Burial will
take place in Jacksonville, Florida; no local services are planned.

Mrs.
Donnie G. Anderson, age 75, of Raspberry Trail, Blairsville passed away
on
Monday, May 10, 2010 in the Union General Hospital following an
extended illness. Mrs. Anderson was born
on November 20, 1934
in Union County, the daughter of the late Major Grant and the late Dora
Shuler
Grant. She was a native and lifelong
resident of Union and Towns Counties.
She loved gardening, traveling fishing and spending time with
her
grandchildren. She was preceded in death
by a son, Cecil Lee Anderson in 2005, a grandson, Charles James
Anderson in
1988 and by a brother, Sylvan Grant in 1990.
Mrs. Anderson attended the South End Baptist Church.
Surviving
Mrs. Anderson are her loving husband of fifty-eight years, Robert
Anderson of
Blairsville, five daughters and four sons-in-law, Ann and Ottis
Franklin,
Brenda and John Chambers, Dora Davenport, Peggy and Ken Denning all of
Blairsville, two sons and one daughter-in-law James Anderson, Brandon
and
Melisia Anderson all of Blairsville, two brothers and one
sister-in-law, David
Grant of Murphy, NC, John and Shirley grant of Dallas, GA, four sisters
and
three brothers-in-law, Ruby McClure, Dorothy and Joe Vandiver, Louise
and
Charlie Payne, Ossie and Vernon Jones all of Blairsville,
grandchildren, David
and Tascha Franklin, Jamie Anderson, Samantha Franklin, Carey Rich,
Chris
Anderson, Kelli Denning and Summer Anderson, great grandchildren,
Maddie
Franklin, Jada Lovell and Kenzie Hullett, many other relatives and
friends also
survive.

services were held on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at 11 a.m. from the

Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Aud Brown officiating.

Plott Spiva, age 80 of Blairsville, Georgia passed away Friday, May 14,
2010 at
her residence.
Geraldine
was born Wednesday, June 5, 1929 in Blairsville,
to the late Claude and
the late Flossie Owenby Plott. She was a
member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and was preceded in death by husband,
W.C.
Clyde Spiva, two brothers and five sisters.
Surviving
family members include: daughter & son-in-law, Gayle & Harold
Cunningham; son & daughter-in-law, Eddy & Judy Spiva; sister
&
brother-in-law, Zel & Wayne Henderson; sister, Lois Dyer; brother
&
sister-in-law, Harold & Patricia Plott; sister &
brother-in-law, Betty
& Jack Kelley; all of Blairsville; grandsons: Scott Dyer and Chad
Spiva;
granddaughter, Nikki Spiva; great grandchildren: Savannah Dyer and
Tristin Dyer
