Mrs.
Martha
Elizabeth Akins, age 83, of Canal Lake Road, Blairsville, formerly of
Struthers, Ohio, passed away Thursday, May 8th at the Union General
Hospital in
Blairsville, Georgia. She had lived in
the Blairsville area since 1953. Born in
Bartow, Florida, she was the daughter of the late John W. Fry and
Freddie
Elizabeth Lambert, and the wife of the late William Randolph Akins. She was
a charter member of Fairview Immanuel
Baptist Church in Youngstown, Ohio and was currently a member of First
Baptist
Church in Blairsville, Georgia. She was
a 50 year member of the Lamplight Chapter #582 O.E.S in Poland, Ohio.
She is
survived by a son, Bill Akins of Petersburg, Ohio;
two daughters, Freddie Allen of Poland, Ohio and Betty Friend of
Blairsville,
Georgia; a brother, E.D. Fry of Blairsville; a half-brother, Lawrence
Bowling
of Berlin Center, Ohio; a step-brother, Sylvan Bowling of Pinehurst,
North
Carolina; 10 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.
Local
funeral services were conducted Friday, May 9th, at 7
p.m. from the First Baptist Church of Blairsville with Rev. B.A.
Buchanan and
Rev. Danny Paris officiating. Music was
by Francis Ballard. Funeral services
were held Monday, May 12th at 1 p.m. from Davidson-Becker Funeral Home
Chapel
in Struthers, Ohio with Rev. Fred Lenz officiating.
Interment followed in Lake Park Cemetery in
Struthers. The family has requested
donations in memory of Mrs. Akins may be made to the First Baptist
Church
Building Fund in Blairsville, Georgia.
Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ila Dale McGlamery, age 77, of the LifeCare
Center,
Ducktown, Tennessee, passed away Sunday, May 11th in the Fannin
Regional
Hospital. A native of Union County, she
was the daughter of the late Edward Lafayette and Minnie Duvall
Chastain. She was a member of the
McCaysville Church of
God for 37 years.
She is
survived by her husband of 57 years, B.W. McGlamery
of Mineral Bluff; three sons, Bill McGlamery of Atlanta, Ben McGlamery
of Omaha,
Nebraska, and Phillip McGlamery of Knoxville, Tennessee; four
daughters, Martha
Harber of Atlanta, Carolyn Matthews of Tucker, Georgia, Ila McDonald of
Memphis, Tennessee, and Miriam Lambert of Rockhill, South Carolina; a
brother,
Edward Chastain of Augusta, Georgia; a sister, Etta Lee Rich of
Blairsville; 13
grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral
services were conducted Tuesday, May 13th at 2 p.m. from the Akins of
Blue
Ridge Chapel with Rev. James D. Edmondson, Rev. Jeff Keys and Rev.
Charles
Black officiating. Music was by the
Kelly trio. The following grandsons served
as pallbearers: Brian Horn, Capt. B. Marc Matthews, Kevin McGlamery,
Jeremy
Simmons, Heath Verner, and Matthew Verner.
The following grandchildren served as honorary escort: Joe
Lambert, Mike
Lambert, Jenifer (sic) Matthews, Carl McGlamery, Cristy Urban, April
Austein
and Ashley McGlamery. Interment followed
in Providence Methodist Church Cemetery in Union County.
