mr. lum o. brown

 

            Mr. Lum O. Brown, 88, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Monday, May 6, 1996 at his home.

Mr. Brown was born on June 5, 1907, in Union County, Georgia, a son of the late Sherman Brown and Alice Berry Brown.  He was a farmer and a lifelong resident of this area.  Mr. Brown was a member of Coosa Methodist Church.  Mr. Brown was preceded in death by two daughters: Kathy Brown, and Brenda Brown, and a son, Wayne Brown. 

            Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Bennie Fortenberry Brown, of the home; nine children: daughters- Florence Winkler, Velma Harkins, Clara Dyer and Bonnie Henderson, of Blairsville and Shirley Burnett of Gainesville, GA; sons-Robert Brown of Smyrna, GA, Joe Brown of Blairsville, Lum Brown, Jr., of Marietta, and Jack Brown, of Blairsville; 25 grandchildren; 30 great-children  (sic) , and give great, great grandchildren also survive.

            Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 8, 1996 at 2 p.m., from the chapel of the funeral home with Reverend Horace Potts and Reverend Eugene Holder officiating.  Special music was presented by Willaree Davenport, Ned Wilcoxon, and Lewis Smith.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Herbert Hedden, Terry Hedden, William Winkler, James Harkins, Ernie Harkins, Tim Brown, and Doug Brown.  Serving as honorary escort to the family were John Franklin brown and Clyde Helton.  Interment was held at Coosa Methodist Church cemetery (sic).

 Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville was in charge of  the arrangements.

mrs. judy edwards

 

            Mrs. Judy Edwards, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Friday, May 17, 1996 at her home following a brief illness.

 Mrs. Edwards was born in Michigan and had lived in Union since 1978, coming here from Sarasota, Florida.  She was a homemaker and attended the House of Prayer Interdenominational Church. 

            Surviving are her husband, Mark Edwards, of Blairsville; her mother, Marion Taggerty, of Naples, Florida; son, Pete La Forgia of Blairsville; daughters and sos (sic) in law, Pam and Pat Godwin, of Clayton, Georgia; Stacy and Freddy Burrell of Blairville (sic) Amy and Barry Abercrombie of Blairsville; and daughter, Ashly Claypool, also of Blairsville; sister, Dorothy Thomas of Petoskey, Michigan, and half sister, Cheryl Daniels, also of Petoskey.  Nine grandchildren also survive.

            Funeral services were held Monday, May 20, 1996 at 2 p.m. from House of Prayer Church with Rev. Jerry Helton officiating.  Special music was presented by the House of Prayer Church Choir.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Barry Abercrombie, Freddy Burrell, Pat Godwin, Billy Payne, Pete Laforgia, and Mark Edwards.  Interment was in Union memory Gardens Cemetery.

mr. john corbit whitt

 

            Mr. John Corbit Whitt, 76, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, May 15, 1996 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mr. Whitt was born in Whitfield County, Georgia, on June 20, 1919, a son of the late Corbit Whitt and Mary Smith Whitt.  He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II.  Mr. Whitt had lived most of his life in this area and was a member of Old Liberty Baptist Church.

Surviving his wife, Mrs. Mary Lou Vandiver Whitt, of Blairsville; daughter and son in law, Paulette and Aubrey Dyer, of Blairsville, and son, Troy Whitt, also of Blairsville.

            Funeral services were held Friday, May 17, 1996 at 2 p.m. from Old Liberty Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Young officiating.  Special music was presented by the Old Liberty Choir.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Ronnie Wimpey, Danny Bridges, Calvin Dyer, A.J. Collins, Lance Bell, and Duane Dyer.  Serving as honorary escort to the family were A.J. Wimpey, and Troy Norton.  Military honors were conferred by The North Georgia Honor Guard, with burial in Old Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.
