charles g. clark

 

Charles G. Clark, 89, of Dunedin, FL and Blairsville, GA died Wednesday, May 17, 2000 at his home.  He came to St. Petersburg from Baltimore in 1928 where he met his wife, Agnes.  Enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard, he was involved in activating “Base 21” at Bayboro Harbor.  During WWII he was present at Iwo Jima during the famous flag raising (which used a rope from his ship).  He owned and operated Clark Concrete Products in Clearwater for 20 years.  He was a founding member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Dunedin serving as its first Holy Name Society President.  He was a past president of the Loyal Order of Moose in Clearwater.  He was an amateur artist, gardener and musician.  Retired to the mountains of north Georgia, he served for 18 years as organist of St. Francis Catholic Church

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Agnes; two sons, Richard of Dunedin and Wayne of Clearwater; daughter Carol of Largo; a sister Margaret of Canton, GA; several nieces and nephews; eleven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

A funeral mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Dunedin, FL on Saturday, May 20th at 11:30 am.  Donations may be made to the Hospice of Florida Suncoast. North American Cremation Society.  Interment was held at Sylvan Abbey Cemetery in Clearwater, FL.

mrs. elda mary carter brown

 

Mrs. Elda Mary Carter Brown, age 82, of Blairsville, Georgia, formerly of Michigan, passed away Monday, May 15, 2000 in Rabun County Memorial Hospital in Clayton, Georgia.

Mrs. Brown was born in Saginaw County, Michigan, on Monday, December 17, 1917, a daughter of the late Eldon Carter and Mary Wesson Carter.  She was a veteran of the U.S. Navy Waves.  Mrs. Brown was a homemaker and a member of Faith Baptist Church, the Ladie’s Auxiliary VFW and the DAV.  Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Brown, and her brother, Eldon Carter, Jr.

Survivors include her step-daughter, Laurie Brown Stewart, of Blairsville; brother and sister in law, Darrel and Lucille Carter, of Linder, Michigan, and sister-in-law, Marjorie Carter, of Saginaw, Michigan; four nieces and one nephew also survive.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 18, 2000 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home, with Pastor James Brock officiating.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Rick Hurd, Jim Pruitt, David Hobb, Ernest Rice, and Ken McBride.  Interment was in Holly Hill Veteran’s Cemetery in Blairsville, with military honors by North Georgia Honor Guard.

cade patrick truex

 

Cade Patrick Truex, infant son of Chuck and Lisa Truex of Blairsville, passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2000 in the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.

Survivors include his parents Chuck and Lisa Truex of Blairsville, one sister, Carly Truex, of Blairsville; maternal grandparents, Ron and Marilynn Truex, several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held on Monday, May 22, 2000 at 11 a.m. from the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Knoxville, TN, with Father Van Johnstone officiating.  Interment followed in the Roseberry Cemetery in Knoxville.

miss treva kelley

 

Miss Treva Kelley, age 19, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Thursday morning, May 18, 2000 at her home.

Treva was born in Fulton County, Georgia, on Wednesday, March 26, 1981.  She was a lifelong resident of Union County.

Treva is survived by her parents, Travis and Pam Kelley; sister, Tara; brother, Seth, Shane, Lucas, Jared and Jacob Kelley, all of Blairsville.  Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held Sunday, May 21, 2000 at 3 p.m. from the House of Prayer Interdenominational Church in Blairsville with Rev. Jerry Helton officiating.  Music was provided by the House of Prayer Choir.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Terry Helton, Garry Kelley, Tommy Murphy, Richard Stinchfield, Dan Anderson, and Lewis Kelley.  Interment was in the Providence Methodist Church Cemetery.
