Mr. Dan W. Davis, age 73, of Blairsville, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.

Mr. Davis was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, May 27, 1930; a son of the late Morrell Joseph Davis and Nora Tierney Davis.  He had lived in Blairsville since 1975, moving from Miami, Florida.  Mr. Davis was a member of Providence United Methodist Church and also the Gold Prospectors of America.

Surviving is his loving wife, Rose, of their home; a son, Daniel William Davis, II of Key largo, Florida; daughter and son-in-law, Katherine and Brad Sherman, of Blairsville; brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Pat Davis of Whigham, Georgia; grandchildren: Stephanie Leigh Davis and Matthew Daniel Davis, both of Key Largo, Rebecca Lynn Sherman, Barbara Sherman Thomas and Cory Thomas and Brian Wayne Sherman, all of Blairsville; great granddaughter, Anzly Sherman; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on May 22, 2004 at 11:00 am in the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville, with Dr. John Kay officiating.  Special music was presented by Rozella Williams.  The following gentlemen served as Pallbearers: Roger Cobb, Mike Jones, Ronnie Coker, Wayne Aaron, Steve George and Ron Bell.  Burial was held at Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville was entrusted by the family for the arrangements.

frank o. “red” carson

 

Mr. Frank O. (better known as “Red”) Carson, age 75, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, May 19, 2004 in Atlanta Medical Center.

Mr. Carson was born in Broward County, Florida on Sunday, January 27, 1929, a son of the late Frank Marion Carson and Grace Eleanor Horne Carson.  He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Japan.  Mr. Carson moved to Blairsville in 1982 from Atlanta.  He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Union County; a member of Allegheny Masonic Lodge #113 F&AM (33nd Degree Mason)’ the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and The Shrine Club.  He was a member of the Royal Order of Jesters and Silver Wings Fraternity.  Mr. Carson owned and operated Frank O. “Red” Carson Photography for many years and had also served as police commissioner of Blairsville.  Besides his parents, he had also been preceded in death by a sister, Emma Lou Olson and a brother, Johnny Hicks.

Surviving is a daughter, Mary Amanda “Cookie” Carson, of Austell, GA; a son, Robert Ross, of Decatur, GA; a son, Richard Oliver, of Tallahassee, FL; daughters, Neville Lane Carson and Caroline Elizabeth Carson, also of Tallahassee, FL; daughter, Tracy Lynn Robinson, of Stockbridge, GA; best friends, Bonnie Hunter, of Blairsville and Buck Bettis, of Powder Springs, GA; grandchildren, Cynthia Marie Brock of Austell, GA; Kimberly Ruth Yun, of Blairsville; James Carson Yun, Jonathan Ross Yun, Sarah Dianne Caron, all of Austell; Brooke Lynn Robinson, Megan Lynn Robinson, both of Stockbridge, GA; great grandchildren, Lillian Grace Lovell and Jazmine Ann Yun; sister, Mary Isabelle Emmerson, of Iverness, FL; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services are scheduled for Thursday, May 27, 2004 at 7:00 pm in the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville with Rev. Troy Acree  officiating.  Military honors will be presented by North Georgia Honor Guard and Masonic rites will be conferred by members of Allegheny Masonic Lodge, #114, F&AM.

mary dorothy stone

 

Mrs. Mary Dorothy Stone, age 79, of Wesley Mtn. Drive, Blairsville, passed away on Monday, May 17, 2004 in the St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta following an extended illness.  Mrs. Stone was born on May 27, 1924 in Atlanta, GA, the daughter of the late Clifford Chancey, Sr., and the late Clara Tolbort Chancey.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Stone in 1996.

Surviving Mrs. Stone are two sons and one daughter in law, Thomas and Cheryl Stone of Atlanta, Michael Stone of Atlanta; one brother, Clifford Chancey, Jr., of Longview, TX; three grandchildren, Lauren, Holly, and Emily Stone, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services were held on Saturday, May 22, 2004 at 11:00 am from Branan Lodge.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to Branan Lodge in Mrs. Stones memory.

deborah totherow hunter

 

Mrs. Deborah Totherow Hunter, age 42, of Franklin Rd., Plainville, GA, formerly of Blairsville, passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2004 in the Gordon County Hospital following a brief illness.  Mrs. Hunter was born on August 5, 1961 in Towns County, the daughter of Jimmy Totherow and Lois Helton Totherow.  She had attended the Union County School System.  In 1979 she moved to Plainville, GA.  At the time of her death she was employed by Horizon/Mohawk Carpet Mills.  Deborah was followed in death by her mother in law, Martha Nell Goforth who passed away on May 18, 2004.  Mrs. Hunter was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mrs. Hunter are her loving husband of twenty three years, Jerry Hunter of Plainville; two sons and one daughter in law, Alan and Donna Hunter of Blairsville; Jeremy Hunter of Blairsville; father, Jimmy Totherow of Blairsville; mother, Lois Totherow of Blairsville; two sisters, Sheila McKinney and Lora Kirkland of Blairsville; four brothers and three sisters in law, David and Marsha Totherow, Michael and Cindy Totherow, Robby and Cindy Totherow and Jeff Totherow, all of Blairsville; one grandchild, Austin Hunter; several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 20, 2004 at 2:00 pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Leon Henderson and Rev. Joe Dan Wilkens officiating.  Special music was presented by the Faith Singers.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Junior Taylor, David Dyer, Lamar Dyer, Jonathan Lloyd, Ben Collins and Jason Totherow.  Interment followed in the Old Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Young Harris.

martha nell burns gofoth

 

Mrs. Martha Nell Burns Goforth, age 62, of Franklin Rd., Plainville, formerly of Blairsville, passed away on Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at her home following a brief illness.  Mrs. Goforth was born on Jan. 28, 1942 in Andrews, NC, the daughter of the late Carder William Burns and the late Sarah Isabell McClure Burns.  She had lived in Plainville for the past thirty years moving from Blairsville.  She was preceded in death by a daughter in law, Deborah Totherow Hunter who passed away on May 15, 2004.  Mrs. Goforth was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Gofoth are one daughter and son in law, Debra Ann and Steve Lay of Cedar Bluff, AL; three sons and one daughter in law, Ricky and Linda Hunter of Calhoun, Jerry Hunter and Tony Hunter both of Plainville; one brother, Harry Burns of Gainesville; four sisters, Mary Williamson of Cumming, Harriet Davis of Young Harris, Louise Goforth of Plainville, GA, Eloise Greeson of Chatsworth; ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 20, 2004 at 2:00 pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Leon Henderson and Rev.
