Thomas
Morabito, of Blairsville, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, May 13. Thomas was retired from the Burlington
Northern Santa Fe Railroad and was a USMC Veteran.
Tommy is
survived by his wife, Joan, daughters Tommi Morabito and Jodi Durand,
son, Eric
Eckert, a grandson, John Thomas Eckert and his mother, Teresa Foster. He is also survived by his dearest dog
friends, Joseph, Angus and Seudi and his cat friends, Shato, Jed, and
Grizzy.
For those
who knew Tommy and would like to celebrate his life and love of
animals; in
lieu of flowers, the family requests a small donation to any no-kill
animal
sanctuary of their choice.

Mr.
Harold
Leroy Filliez, Jr., age
70 of Charles Lane, Blairsville passed away on Tuesday,
May 19,
2009 in the Union General Hospital in Blairsville following a brief
illness. Mr. Filliez was born on May 6,
1939 in Canton, OH, the son of the late Harold Leroy Filliez Sr. and
the late
Pauline Rhorbaugh Filliez. Harold was a
veteran of the US navy of the Vietnam War.
He had retired as certified automobile mechanic with over
forty-three of
service (sic). He enjoyed riding his
motorcycle in the mountains. He was a
loving husband, father, brother and grandfather and was a best friend
to
everyone he met. Mr. Filliez was a
member of St. Hillary’s Episcopal church.
Surviving Mr.
Filliez are his loving wife of forty-one years, Mary Filliez of
Blairsville,
one son, Harold Filliez III of Ft. Myers, FL, one daughter, Brenda
Kellogg of
Lexington, KY, one sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Gene Rolls of
Masallin, OH, three grandchildren, Alex Filliez, Cristi and Cody
Kellogg, many
other relatives and friends also survive.
A memorial
service was held on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at 1 p.m. from the Mountain
View
Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Tanner officiating.
In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that
memorials may be
made to the Union County humane society in memory of Mr. Filliez.

Mr. Harry
Lee Colwell age 80 of Rogers Rd., Blairsville passed away on Friday,
May 22,
2009 at his home following an extended illness.
Mr. Colwell was born on Sept. 29, 1928 in Union County, the son
of the
late Andy Colwell and the late Julie Loudermilk Colwell.
He was a native and lifelong resident of
Union County and before his retirement he was employed with the State
of
Georgia Revenue service. Harry was a
loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather. He was preceded in death by a brother, Frank
Colwell and a sister, Willie Drake. Mr.
Colwell
was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
Surviving Mr.
Colwell are his loving wife of fifty-eight years, Willie Rogers Colwell
of
Blairsville, three sons and two daughters-in-law, Alan and Lisa Colwell
of
Blairsville, Tim Colwell of Blairsville, Joey and Teresa Colwell of
Blairsville, one sister, Mary grace Hemphill of Blairsville, five
grandchildren, Daniel, Megan, Josh, Julia and Tyler, one great
grandchild,
Jacob, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held on Sunday, May 24, 2009 at 1 p.m. from the Mountain
View
Chapel with Rev. Charles Black officiating.
Special music was presented by Debbie Owenby and Danita Kennedy. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers, Steve Drake, Mike Hemphill, Scott Lance, Tommy
Abercrombie, Kenny
Hutson and Bud Akins. Serving as
honorary pallbearers were George Gowder, Carlton Colwell, Curtis Young,
Pat Hacker,
J.W.
Payne and Jim McAfee. Interment followed
in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. The
family met with friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening from
6-9 p.m.

Mr.
Maylon
Gene Phillips age 66 of Hedgecock Rd., Blairsville passed away on
Friday, May
22, 2009 at his home following an extended illness.
Mr. Phillips was born on June 28, 1942 in
Hall County, GA, the son of the late Herbert Phillips and the late
Pauline
McQuiag Phillips. He was a veteran of
the US Marines of the Korean War. Gene
loved his family and most of all he loved his Lord.
He was preceded in death by three brothers,
Bobby Wayne, Johnny and Lawrence Phillips, one sister, Doris Phillips. Mr. Phillips was a member of Ivy Log Baptist
Church.
Surviving Mr.
Phillips are his loving wife of twenty-one years, Faye Lancaster
Phillips of
Blairsville, four children, Melissa Phillips of Montana, lance Phillips
of
Redding, CA, Stacy and Amy Strickland of Blairsville, Nathan and Tonya
Strickland of Gainesville, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Alvin and
Mildred
Phillips of Gainesville, Marcus and Retha Phillips of Jasper, AL,
grandchildren,
Seth, Hannah, Rachel, Clayton and Mackenzie, many other relatives and
friends
also survive.
Funeral
services were held on Tuesday, may 26, 2009 at 2 p.m. from the Mountain

chapel with the Rev. Tony Black and Rev. Jerry Karnes officiating. Special music was presented by Ken and Elaine
Young. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers, Nathan Strickland, Stacy Strickland, Mike Thomas, Dean
Cook,
Gabriel Watson and James Bridges. Interment
followed in the Ivy Log Baptist Church Cemetery. The
family met with friends at the funeral
home on Monday evening from 5-8 p.m.

Ms.
Hyapatia Leigh Burrell, age 23, of Ellijay, GA, died suddenly in a car
accident. She was born July 9, 1985 in
Blairsville, GA. She was a high school
graduate of Fannin County. She was of
the Baptist faith. She worked as a
waitress, and was a huge Georgia Bulldog fan.
She was preceded in death by grandparents, J.T. Burrell of
Hiawassee, GA
and George McKinney of Blue Ridge, and Rob and Annis Perkins of
Maryville, TN;
a cousin, Brittany Dugan of Cherokee, NC; and an uncle, Jimmy Chastain
of
Cherry Log, GA.
She is
survived by two sons, Bryson and Logan Davenport and
their father Adam Davenport, all of Ellijay; her mother and stepfather,
Sherry
and Joe Bennett of Ellijay; father, Nolan Burrell of Hiawassee, GA;
stepfather,
Leonard Perkins of Maryville, TN; brother, Rusty Perkins of Maryville;
sisters,
Natasha Burrell Templeton and her husband James of California and
Melissa
Perkins of Maryville; grandparents, Shirley McKinney of Blue Ridge,
Lois
Burrell of Hiawassee, and Betty McKinney of Blue Ridge; a favorite
aunt, Angela
McKinney; a favorite cousin, Ashley Dugan; and a special friend,
Lindsey
Rogers.
Funeral
services were conducted Thursday, May 21, 2009 at 2 p.m. from the Akins
of Blue
Ridge Chapel with Rev. David Berrong officiating. Pallbearers

Born, Greg Farmer, Billy Lovell, Jeff Danenhower, and Chad Whitaker. Honorary pallbearers were Cody Burrell and
Bill Berrong. Interment followed in
Concord Church Cemetery. For those
