Mr.
Howard W. Owenby, age 86, of Blairsville, Georgia passed away Sunday,
May 17,
1998 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.
Mr. Owenby was born on Monday, October 30, 911, a son of the
late
Zachary Owenby and Cordie Lee Norton Owenby.
He was a lifelong resident of Union county, and was a member of
Ebenezer
Baptist Church.
Surviving
are his wife, Mrs. Roxie Jane Dockery Owenby, of Blairsville; daughter,
Lela
Daniel of Glendale, AZ.; daughter, Pauline Hedrick of Blairsville;
daughter and
son-in-law, Lucille and Don Bailey, of Blairsville; son and
daughter-in-law
Lloyd and Nancy Owenby of Stone Mountain, GA.; daughter and son-in-law
Lois and
Neal Griggs of Blairsville; brother, Sylvan Owenby of Blairsville and
sister,
Tottsie Dillinger of Dallas, N.C.; 7 grandchildren, 8 great
grandchildren, and
two step great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral
services were held Tuesday, May 19, 1998 at 1 p.m. form Ebenezer
Baptist Church
with Rev. Horace Potts and Rev. Loys Waters officiating.
The Singers were Debbie and Danita Owenby. The
following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Carson, Danny and Rex Owenby, Gerald, Ricky, and Ronnie
Owenby. Interment was in Ebenezer
Baptist Church with Cochran Funeral Home of
Blairsville in charge of arrangements.

Marty
Joe Poteete, age 28, of Blairsville, Georgia passed away Tuesday, May
19, 1998
from injuries which he sustained in a an (sic) automobile accident. Mr. Poteete was born in Cobb County, Georgia
on September 11, 1969 and was a veteran of the United states
Marines. He had lived in Blairsville for
most of his life and was the owner of A&A
Auto
Rental located at Poteete’s Grocery and was also employed by Jacky
Jones Sales
& Leasing of Blairsville. Mr.
Poteete was a member of Liberty Baptist Church; Past Worshipful Master
of Dooly
Masonic Lodge #367; The First Vice-President of The Appalachian Shrine
Club;
The Georgia Mountain Scottish Rite Association; The Yaarab Temple,
A.A.O.N.-M.S., Valley of Atlanta; Charter Member of AztecAtlanta #1997
The
Order of Quetzalcoatl; and was an Admiral in the Governor of Kentucky’s
task
Force, “The Kentucky Colonel’s”.
Surviving
are his parents, Billy and Barbara Poteete of Blairsville; maternal
grandmother, Wilma Davenport of Blairsville; brothers, Larry and Jim
Poteete;
both of Blairsville and terry Poteete of Lawrenceville.
Many other relatives and friends also
survive.
Funeral
services were held Friday, May 22, 1998 at 11 a.m. from Mt. Zion
Baptist Church
with Rev. Tommy Seay, Rev. Brent Chatham, and Rev. Ronnie Dilbeck
officiating. The
Eulogy was given by Richard Bishop. Special
music was presented by Mt. Zion Singers.
The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Jason Hughes,
Jeff
McCarter, Dwayne Green, John McMahan, Bill Howard and Jimmy Bearden. Serving as honorary escort to the family were
officers and members of Dooly Lodge #367 and Appalachian Shrine Club
and
friends. Interment was in Mt. Zion
Baptist Church Cemetery with Chaplain Robert Quigley presenting the
flag. James E. Underwood, Most Worshipful
Brother, Past grand Master of Masons of
Georgia presided over
graveside rites conducted by Dooly Lodge #367 and the many other
Masonic
brethren present presented the graveside services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions
may be made to Marty Joe Poteete Memorial Fund, established at Union
County
Bank in Blairsville.
Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville
in charge of
arrangements.
