Mr.
Benny Frank Brown, age 58, of Bearmeat Spur, Hiawassee formerly of
Blairsville,
passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2008 at his home following an extended
illness. Mr. Brown was born on October 15,
1949 in
Union County, the son of the late William Francis
Brown and
the late Virginia Mashburn Brown.
He was a lifelong resident of Union and Towns Counties. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army of the
Korean War. Benny loved to play the guitar
and sing country, bluegrass and gospel songs and music.
He was preceded in death by his parents,
Francis and Virginia Brown; brother, Oble Brown; a twin brother, Glynny
Brown;
grandparents, Tom and Cora Brown, Will and Ollie Mashburn.
Mr. Brown attended North Mt. Zion Church of
God.
Surviving Mr.
Brown are two sons, Tony Brown of Hiawassee, “Little” Ben Brown of
Hiawassee;
five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Dot Garrett and Vassie Garrett
both of
Hiawassee, Shirley and Eugene Pope, Marie Burnette, Belvia Jean and
Vernon
Barnes all of Blairsville; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Clinton
brown of
Hiawassee, Zeno and Dessie Brown of Blairsville; several nieces,
nephews,
cousins and many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held on Wednesday, may 21, 2008 at 2
p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Raburne Wilson and Rev.
Eugene
Freeman officiating. Special music was
presented
by Ryan Wilson. The following gentlemen
served as pallbearers, Bryon Davis, Scott Garrett, Billy Burnette,
Johnny
Barnes, Donald Teague and Rick Davis.
Serving as honorary pallbearers were, Kenny Garrett, Eugene
Pope, Greg
Barnes and Junior Brown. Interment
followed in the Shady Grove Methodist Church Cemetery with the North
Georgia
Honor Guard conducting military honors.

Mrs.
Clara Belle Duckworth, age 89, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Monday,
May 19,
2008 at Union County Nursing Home, in Blairsville.
Mrs. Duckworth was born Saturday, May 10,
1919 in Union County, GA, to the late E.S. and Oria Souther Collins. A lifelong resident of Union County, Mrs.
Duckworth was a member of Choestoe Baptist Church.
Mrs. Duckworth was preceded in death by husband,
Donald Duckworth, and a son, Hubert Duckworth.
Surviving family
members include a daughter, Carrie McGahie of Blairsville;
grandchildren: Tommy
Anderson, Billy Anderson, Tammy Bryson, Peggy Seabolt, Scotty
Duckworth, Marisa
Crowley; great-grandchildren: Dawson, Dayton, Wendy, Dereck, Hollie,
Jonie,
Cody, Jessica, Ethan and Hunter, great great grandchildren, Noah and
Kayla. many other relatives and friends

Mildred
L. Ledford, age 74, of Gospel Circle, Hayesville, NC died Saturday, May
17,
2008 at her residence. A native of Union
County, GA, she was the daughter of the late Sam and Ailene Nations
Kirkland. She had resided in Hayesville
since 1937 and was a member of the South Hayesville Church of God. She was a homemaker and a minister for over
50 years at several local churches.
Mildred was a very loving mother, grandmother and great
grandmother and
a tireless prayer warrior, who loved to cook and help other people. She was preceded in death by her sister,
Evelyn Matheson.
She is
survived by her husband, Buford Ledford of the home; four sons, Ronnie
Ledford
of Marshall, NC, Kenny Ledford and wife Nancy of Hayesville, NC,
Charles Wayne
Ledford and wife Sandy of Murphy, NC and Dwayne Ledford and wife Angel
of
Blairsville GA; four daughters, Bonnie Lou Monkus and husband Allen of
Hayesville, NC, Kathleen Pierce and husband Wayne of Hayesville, NC,
Glenda
Matusewicz and husband Rick of Marshall, NC and Dinah Davis and husband
John of
Hayesville, NC; three brothers, Marshall Kirkland and wife Juanita of
Blairsville, GA, Waymon Kirkland and wife Frances of Cartersville, GA
and Sammy
Kirkland and wife Marilyn of Michigan; 14 grandchildren, 16
great-grandchildren
and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral
services were held at 20 a.m.
Tuesday, may 20, 2008 at the Townson
Rose, Frank Rose Sr. Memorial Chapel in Hayesville, NC with her son
Ronnie
Ledford and daughter Dinah Davis officiating.
Music was provided by Ronnie Ledford, Vicki Coker and John Davis. Interment was held in the Greenlawn Memorial
gardens in Murphy, NC. Pallbearers were
grandsons, Capt. John Brian Davis, III, Roger Ledford, Michael Ledford,
Joe
Ledford, C.B. Ledford and great-grandson, Timothy Shaffer.

Northa Pauline Brown, age 87, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Saturday,

2008 at Union County Nursing Home. Mrs.
Brown was born Saturday, September 18, 1920 in Union County, GA to the

Marcus Clayburn King and the late Addie Kate Dyer King.
She was a member of old Liberty Baptist
Church and was preceded in death by brother, Rouse King.

William Gary Erwin, age 64, of Blairsville, GA passed away on
Wednesday, may 21, 2008 following a period
of declining health. He was born to the
late William and Mary Lee
Souther Erwin on September 14, 1943 in Summit County, OH.
He is
survived by cousins, O.E. Deaver of Blairsville, GA and Charles Souther
of
Huntsville, AL.

services were held on Friday, May 23, 2008 at 1 p.m. from Old Union
Baptist
Church with Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating.

Mrs.
Rosa Lee Wilson, age 98, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Saturday, may 24, 2008 at Union County Nursing Home, in
Blairsville. Mrs. Wilson was born
Monday, August 2, 1909 in Brooks County, GA, to the late Sylvester Lee
Norris
and the late Nellie Mae Bishop Norris.
She grew up in Brooks County, GA, and married H.R. Hall, Sr.
also of
Brooks County, on August 29, 1929. Of
this union there were two sons, one living only two months. On September 12, 1957, she married Horace E.
Wilson, of Columbus, GA. Horace passed
away August 1, 1982. While living in
Columbus, she was a member of South Columbus United Methodist Church,
where she
served as a member of the Council on Ministries, also the Official
Board of the
church. She served as Secretary of the
American Business Women’s Association and served as Secretary and
Treasurer of
this group. She was three times President
of the American Legion Auxiliary. In
1985, after 49 years working with the public, she moved to Branan Lodge
to be
near her son and his family. After
moving to Blairsville, she did volunteer work for Branan Lodge. She was a member of Coosa United Methodist
Church and Coosa Women’s ministries. She
was a member of the Union General Hospital Auxiliary where she served
as Vice
President as well as chairman of different programs.
She was Vice President of the American legion
Auxiliary unit 121, and for many years a volunteer of the Chamber of
Commerce. She was preceded in death by
husband, Horace Wilson, son, Henry “Hank” Hall, 4 brothers and 2
sisters.
Survivors
include: sister, Louise Davis of Albany, GA; daughter-in-law, Marji
Hall of
Blairsville; grandchildren: Joy Jaegle, Doug Hall and Ken hall;
great-grandchildren: Jon Krieger, Jenette Aldridge, Douglas B. Hall,
Arrika
Hall, Jason Hall, Justin Hall, Jordan Hall and Katie Hall;
great-great-grandchildren: Ethan Aldridge and Kara Aldridge; several
nieces and
nephews also survive.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at 11
a.m. from the Coosa United Methodist Church with Rev. Katie Strals and
Rev.
Vickki McVay officiating. Music was
provided by: Joe Jaegle, Jenette Aldridge, Ken Hall and James Stevens. Interment followed in Coosa United Methodist
Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers
were the following gentlemen: Doug Hall, Ken Hall, Charles Ring, Dennis
Jaegle
and Douglas Jaegle. Honorary pallbearers
included members of the Union General Hospital Auxiliary.

Delmar Tipton, Jr., age 70, of Pleasant Hill Rd., Blairsville passed
away on
Sunday, May 18, 2008 in Union General Hospital following an extended
illness. Mr. Tipton was born on July 26,
1937 in
Fannin County, GA, the son of the late Emerson D. Tipton and the late
Bessie D.
Roper Tipton. Delmar was a loving
husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be missed
by all of
his family and friends. Mr. Tipton was a
member of Owltown Church of God.

Mr.
Coleman E. Breeden, Jr. age 66, of Rose Timber Trail, Blairsville
passed away
on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at his home following
a brief illness. Mr. Breeden was born on
November 5, 1942 in Gilmer County, GA, the son of the late Coleman E.
Breeden,
Sr. and the late Polly Taylor Breeden.
He was a lifelong resident of Union, Fannin and Gilmer Counties. Coleman loved to hunt, fish, go camping and
playing cards. He was a loving father
and grandfather and will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Haley Hamrick and
Scotty
Keene; four brothers, Jimmy, Buddy and William Raymond Breeden and
Billy
Coogler, also one sister, Martha Goswick.
Mr. Breeden attended Temple Baptist Church.
Surviving Mr.
Breeden are two sons and daughters-in-law, Chuck and Jennifer Breeden
of Blue Ridge,
Clayton and Tonya Breeden of Blairsville; two daughters and one
son-in-law,
Cherie and Scott Hamrick of Blairsville, Christal Breeden of
