Lucille
Hughes, 70, of Blairsville, GA, died Tuesday (May 21) in an (sic) Union
County,
GA hospital. She was a native of
Cherokee County, but had been living in Union County
for
several years. She was the
daughter of the late Floyd and Mandy Chastain Oliver and the wife of
the late
William Voyd Hughes, who died July 16, 1989.
She was a member of the Notla Baptist Church.
Surviving
are three daughters, Doris Berry and Helen Townson both of Blairsville,
and
Rosemary White of Cornelia, GA; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Hughes Palmer
of Murphy;
a sister, Lillian Hughes of Murphy; a brother, Ed Oliver of
Blairsville, GA;
and six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Services
were held on Thursday, May 23 in the Notla Baptist Church with the
Reverends
Avery Beavers and Ronnie Dilbeck officiating.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Keith and Chad Berry, Dwayne and Michael
Townson,
Travis Chastain, and Jason Sissium (sic).
Honorary pallbearers were Clinton, Hollis Dan, and Floyd Hughes,
To
Swartz, Don Brawley, and Randy Zimmerman.
Memorials
may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation, 2315 A Sunset Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.

Mrs.
Alice Irene Reece Towe, 92, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Friday, May
24, 1996 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.
Mrs. Towe
was born in Union County, Georgia, on December 2, 1903, a daughter of
the late
James Reece and Millie Henson Reece. She
was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of this area.
Mrs. Towe was a member of Coosa Methodist
Church, and was the widow of the late Carl Towe, who passed away in
1968.
Survivors
include a daughter, Mrs. Birdie M. White, of Blairsville; two brothers,
Hoke
Reece of Blairsville and Felton Reece of Marietta; three grandchildren,
Larry
White, Terry White, and Randy White; seven great grandchildren also
survive.
Funeral
services were held Saturday, May 25, 1996 at 4 p.m. from Coosa
Methodist church
(sic) with Rev. Charles Black and Rev. Bill Honaker officiating. Special music was presented by Rev. and Mrs.
Earl Bishop. The following gentlemen
served as pallbearers: Larry White, Terry White, Randy White, James
Reece,
Justin White, and Joseph White. Interment
was in Coosa Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Frank
W. Carney, age 71, of Douglasville, formerly of Mabelton and
Blairsville passed
away Saturday, may 25, 1996.
Mr. Carney had lived and worked in the
Atlanta area for the past 33 years, moving there from Blairsville,
Georgia. He had been a forklift operator
with the National Lead Company. Frank
was a World War II army veteran in the European Theatre.
Survivors
include his wife, Inez Lee Carney of the home; son, Danny Carney of
Douglasville; daughter, Donna Kinney, also of Douglasville; son, David
Brian
Carney of Hiram; brothers, Junior Carney of Blairsville and Mickey
Carney of
Mabelton; sisters, Mary Payne of Blairville (sic) Janet Phillips of
Mabelton,
Judy Burkhalter of Marietta and Doris Jean Lewis of McDonough; three
grandchildren and other relatives also survive.
Funeral
services were held Monday May 27, 1996 at 2 p.m. from New Union Baptist
Church with
Rev. Harrison Bradley and Rev. Wayne Daniels officiating.
Music was provided by the New Union Church
Choir. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Johnny Foster, Charles Burkhalter, David Murphy, Wendell
Murphy,
Gordon Payne and Tommy Rogers. Interment
was in the New Union Baptist Church Cemetery with military honor
conferred by
The North Georgia Veterans.
