mr. francis gene mckean

 

Mr. Francis Gene (better known as Pete) McKean, age 61, of Floyd Payne Drive, Blairsville, passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2000 in the Union General Hospital from injuries received in an automobile accident.  Mr. McKean was born on March 5, 1939 in Coquille, OR, the son of the late Frank McKean and the late Catherine Savage McKean.  Mr. McKean was employed by the Colwell Construction Company at the time of his death.

Surviving Mr. McKean are two sons, Bruce McKean of Washington and Scott McKean of Auburn, WA; one daughter, Rhonda McKean of Auburn, WA; one sister, Betty Hoyt of Kalispell, MT; two brothers, Clarence McKean of Missoula, MT and Daniel McKean of Kalispell, MT; and locally one nephew John McKean of Blairsville; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, May 28, 2000 at 3 pm from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Strickland officiating.  Interment will follow in Kalispell, MT.

mr. reuben p. ragland

 

Mr. Reuben P. Ragland, age 78, of Bradley Acres Road, Blairsville, passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2000 at his home following an extended illness.  Mr. Ragland was born on August 28, 1921 in Vera, VA, the son of the late Samual F. Ragland and the late Myrtle Baber Ragland.  He was a World war II Veteran, a member of The Milwaukie Lodge #109, The Valley of Portland, Orient of Oregon, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, GA. Mtn. Scottish Rite Association, Yaarab Shrine Temple, A.H.O.N.M.S., Appalachian Shrine Club, Royal Order of Jesters, and Atlanta Court #91, and also a member of The American Legion.

Surviving Mr. Ragland are his loving wife of fifty six years, Jean Ragland of Blairsville; one daughter, Marcia Collen of Washington; one son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Grace Ragland of stone Mountain; one sister, Ethel Blackmore of Willingham, NC; three grandchildren, Rodney and Bret Collen and Bradley Ragland; one great grandchild, Audrey Collen; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 30, 2000 at 2 pm from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Jackson officiating.  Special music was provided by Scott Lance and Kim Thomas.  Serving as honorary pallbearers were the officers and members of The Appalachian Shrine Club.  Masonic Rites were conducted by Alleghany Lodge #114 F&AM.  Graveside services and interment were held on Thursday, June 1, 2000 at 2 pm from the Fort Hill Burial Park Cemetery in Lynchburg, VA.  The American Legion Post in Lynchburg conducted the graveside services.

mr. clifford l. fair

 

Mr. Clifford L. Fair, age 81, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Friday, may 19, 2000, in Pine Oak Health Care, in Flowery Branch, Georgia.

Mr. Fair was born in Union County, Georgia, on Wednesday, August 28, 1918, a son of the late John David Fair and Claudia Hood Fair.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in WWII.  During the war, he was a medical corpsman, serving in the European Theatre.  He was a lifelong resident of this area and had been the owner of a grocery store.  Mr. Fair was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth McClure Fair, in 1970; two brothers, Winfred Fair and Dexter Fair; a sister, Jessie Mae Fair.

Survivors include his sisters, Anna Lee Fair Barfield, of Forest Park, Georgia; and Eurah Vee Foster, of Counce, Tennessee; many nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held Sunday, May 21, 2000 at 3 p.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home, with Rev. Charles F. Barfield officiating.  Special music was presented by Edward Vest.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Tony Thrasher, David Cox, Rex Odom, Earl Odom, Steve Abercrombie, and Roy Patterson.  Interment was in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.

mrs. lorraine bergreen

 

Mrs. Lorraine Bergreen, age 71, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Monday, May 22, 2000, in Fannin Regional Hospital in Blue Ridge, Georgia.

Mrs. Bergreen was born in Nassau County, New York, on Tuesday, October 2, 1928, a daughter of the late Clyde Markowski and Antoinette Saroka Markowski.  She was a homemaker and had lived in the Blairsville area for the past twenty years, coming here from Oceanside, New York.  Mrs. Bergreen was of the Catholic Faith.  She was preceded in death by her husband, George Thompson, in 1974, and her second husband, Victor Bergreen in 1983.

Survivors include her daughter, Toni Carley, of Bayport, NY; son and daughter in law, George and Kathy Thompson, of Oceanside, NY; and son and daughter in law, Jim and Cathy Thompson, of Blairsville, GA; two sisters, Rose Davis, of Blairsville and Toni Hilton, of Tennessee; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 25, 2000 at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev. David Clay officiating.  Interment was in Providence Methodist Church Cemetery.
