mr. michael shane darby

 

Mr. Michael Shane Darby age 34 of Rocky Top Heights Rd. Blairsville passed away on Wednesday May 25, 2005 in Rockmart, Ga following an extended illness.  Mr. Darby was born on July 21, 1970 in Dalas, GA., the son of Annie Mae Davis Darby and the late Paul Lee Darby.  He was employed at the North GA Technical School of Blairsville.  Mr. Darby was a member of the House of Prayer Church.

Surviving Mr. Darby are his mother, Annie Mae Kintz, Step father, Terry Kintz both of Blairsville, One sister and brother-in-law, Angela and Nick Feher of Bradenton, FL., One step-brother and sister-in-law, Bruce and Kim Kintz of Sarasota, FL., several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday May 28, 2005 at 12:00 pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jerry Helton, Rev. Bill Schakat, Rev. George Cline, and Rev. Jeremy Henerson officiating. 

Special music will be presented by the House of Prayer Praise Team.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the national Kidney Foundation in Mr. Darby’s memory.

mr. john isaac curtis

 

Mr. John Isaac Curtis, age 81, of Leslie Drive, Blairsville, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2005 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.  Mr. Curtis was born on May 22, 1923 in Montezuma, NC, the son of the late Tom Curtis and the late Johnsie Clark Curtis.  He was a veteran of the US Army of WWII.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Parsons Curtis; a son, Stephen Curtis, and by two sisters, Leona Roper and Ila Carswell.  Mr. Curtis was a member and Deacon of the Day Of Grace Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Curtis are nine children: Stanley and Donna Curtis of Warner Robins, GA, Johnny and Rita Curtis of Salisbury, NC, Ruth and Mark Spence of Wayne, WV, Hope and Donnie Nelson of Lavalette, WV, Paula and Gary Ledford of Murphy, NC, Theresa Rogers of Murphy, Tammy Curtis of Blairsville, Joe and Lori Curtis of Blairsville; five brothers and sisters, Lorena Clark of Lavalette, WV, Johnsie Nelson of Rutherford, NC, Sue Henson of FL, Opal Cragg of Lenoir, NC, James Curtis of Flint, MI; seventeen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 28, 2005 at 4 p.m. from the Day Of Grace Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeremy Henderson and Rev. Leon Henderson officiating.  Special music was presented by Jimmy Hogsed and Jane Wooten.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Quinton Holbrooks, Hank McClure, Wesley McClure.  Interment and graveside services were held on Sunday, May 29, 2005 at 1 p.m. from the Calloway Cemetery in Pineola, NC.

mrs. kathryn ruth jones cearley

 

Mrs. Kathryn Ruth Jones Cearley, 90, a resident of Sunnyside Presbyterian Retirement Community, died Monday, May 23, 2005.

A daughter of the late D.R. and Dessie Payne Jones, she was born on December 13, 1914, in Union County, GA.  She graduated from Young Harris College in Young Harris, GA and taught school for eleven years in Union County, GA.  Mrs. Cearley was later employed by the Navy Department for 21 years, serving as a budget analyst.

Mrs. Cearley made her home in Virginia Beach and the Norfolk communities prior to moving to Harrisonburg in 1986.  She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Harrisonburg.

On May 11, 1935, she married Rufus Cearley who preceded her in death on December 10, 1986.

Surviving is one sister, Ruby Yeargin of Dalton, GA; two sisters-in-law, Carrie Jones of Culpepper and Betty Jones of Blairsville, GA; and a number of nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by two brothers, John B. Jones of Culpepper and Robert W. Jones of Blairsville, GA.

Graveside services were Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with the Rev. Tom Holden officiating. 

Memorial contributions may be made to Sunnyside Retirement Community, 3935 Sunnyside Drive, Harrisonburg, VA 22801.

mrs. betty jo pierce

 

Mrs. Betty Jo Pierce, age 67, of Harkins Road, Suches, GA, died Saturday, May 28, 2005 at her residence following a sudden illness.

Born February 28, 1938, in Union County, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Fannie Thomason Helton.  Mrs. Pierce had lived most of her life in Suches, GA.  She was a homemaker and member of the Mt. Pleasant (Hill) Baptist Church in Suches.

Survivors include – her husband of 49 years Mr. J.C. Pierce of Suches, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Jeanette and Mike Pierce of Suches, GA; sons and daughters-in-law Dale Pierce of Suches, GA, Charles E. and Lisa Pierce of Flowery Branch, GA, Jeff and Ashley Pierce of Suches, GA; grandchildren, Jessica Pierce, Chris Pierce, Megan Pierce, Kade Pierce and Andrew Pierce; great granddaughter, Skylar Milton; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lucille and John Stanford, of Suches, GA, Dessi Gilstrap of Atlanta, GA, Grace and Bob McGee of Atlanta, GA, Willie Nell Cain of Gainesville, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Bymon and Geraldine Helton of Suches, GA; several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2005 at the Mt. Pleasant (Hill) Baptist Church in Suches, GA, with the remains placed in state at the church at 1:30 p.m., the Rev. William Phillips officiated, interment followed in the church cemetery.

mrs. dimple mae coker

 

Mrs. Dimple Mae Coker, age 86, of Blairsville, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2005 at her residence.

Dimple was born in Whitfield County, GA on September 11, 1918 to the late Clem and Ivie (Bridges) Collins.   She was preceded in death by her husband, Cliff I. Coker, three grandchildren, four brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law, Mary and James Souther of Blairsville, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Iva Lee and Zelmer Gooch of Clarksville, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Kenneth Winn of Flowery Branch, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Shelby Coker of Blairsville, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Jeanette and Bud Hughes of Blairsville, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Tony Sosebee of Clermont, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Eldon and Clara Coker of Blairsville, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Nina Coker of Old Town, FL; son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Connie Coker of Blairsville, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Stanley and Susan Coker of Chatsworth, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Steve Free of Blairsville, GA; grandchildren, Marylin Souther Farrell, Michael Souther, Marcia Souther Barrett, Allen Gooch, Niki Gooch Haynes, Kevin Gooch, Leana Winn, Paige Coker, Marty Hughes, Michelle Hughes, Jason Sosebee, Tracy Coker, Tim Coker, Adam Coker, Brian Free, Nichola Free, Galen Cook and Gary Harkins; 17 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 31, 2005 at 2 p.m. from the Track Rock Baptist Church, of which she was a member, with Rev. Wade Plott, Rev. Dewey Cox and Rev. Randy Hughes officiating.  Music was provided by Track Rock Baptist Church Choir, Nichola Free, Leana Winn, Marcia Barrett, Larry Haynes and Patricia Cook.  Interment followed in Track Rock Baptist Church Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were Michael Souther, Allen Gooch, Kevin Gooch, Marty Hughes, Jason Sosebee, Tracy Coker, Tim Coker, Adam Coker, Brian Free, Galen Cook and Gary Harkins.
