Little
Colton Jae “Gus” Carney, age 2 months, of King Cove Rd., Young Harris,
went to
be with Jesus on Friday, May 28, 2010.
Colton was born on March 18, 2010 in Union
County, the
son of Katlin Carney and Christopher Green.
Colton was preceded in death by his
grandfather, Billy Carney, great grandparents Pamela K. Brown and James
Allen.
Surviving
Colton are his parents, Katlin Carney of Young Harris and Christopher
Green of
Blue Ridge, grandparents, Michele and Billy Carney of Young Harris and
Judy
Allen of Blue Ridge, sister, Ciera Harper aunt and uncles, Nikki

services were held on Monday, May 31, 2010 at 8 p.m. from the Mountain

Mr.
George
Brymer, age 87, of Wesley Mtn. Drive, Blairsville, passed away on
Friday, May
28, 2010 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended
illness. Mr.
Brymer was born on May 8, 1923 in Clinton, IN, the son of the late
Arthur
Brymer and the late Doris Hardy Brymer.
He was a veteran of the US Army of WWII.
George was a Jazz enthusiast and had a collection of over four
thousand
records which he donated to Young Harris College. He
also loved tropical fish and sports
cars. He was a loving husband, father,
brother and grandfather. Mr. Brymer was
a member of the Orlando United Methodist Church.
Surviving
Mr. Brymer are his loving wife of thirty-nine years, Dorothy Jean Baker
Brymer
of Blairsville, one son and daughter-in-law, Arthur Raymond and
Michelle Brymer
of Newark, DE, one sister, Louise Searight of Montana, two
grandchildren, Emily
and Rebecca Brymer of Newark, DE, many other relatives and friends also
survive.
Graveside
services will be held on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at 11 a.m. from the
Meadow View
Cemetery with the Rev. Jan Devereaux officiating. In
lieu of flowers if you wish, the family
requests that donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation in
memory of
Mr. Brymer. The family will meet with
friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 9-11 a.m.

Mr. Jack
Walter Stubbs, Jr., age 75 of Buford, GA,
formerly of
Blairsville and the Atlanta area, passed away May 30, 2010. Mr. Stubbs was born November 16, 1934 in
Atlanta, GA. He was the son of Elene
Fraiser Stubbs and Jack Water Stubbs Sr., a Dairy Farmer.
He started his 30 year career with Delta
Airlines in 1957. Jack married Lynda
Thomas in 1958 and they raised their two daughters in Decatur, GA. He was a member of the First Baptist church
of Blairsville. Jack was preceded in
death by his parents and a brother, Lamar Stubbs.
He leaves
his wife, Lynda Stubbs, now residing in Buford,
GA; his eldest daughter, Felicia Beth Stubbs-Gonzalez and son-in-law,
Otto
Gonzalez of Buford; his youngest daughter, Karen Elise Stubbs of Gulf
Breeze,
FL; 3 loving grandchildren, Jaclyn Andrea Rodriguez, a 3rd year law
student at
John Marshall Law School in Atlanta and who now resides in Buford, GA;
Robert
Andrew Burzynski, who just completed training as a Fireman/EMT and has
recently
moved to Gulf Breeze, FL; and PFC Phillip Matthew Burzynski who is in
the U.S.
Army, currently stationed at Ft. Knox, KY; brother, Don Stubbs of
Duluth, GA;
sister, Lynda Horner of Norcross, GA; and brother, Timothy Stubbs of
Cumming,
GA. Many other relatives and friends
also survive.
Funeral
services were held Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at 12 PM from the chapel of
the
Henry-Cochran Funeral Home of Blue Ridge with Rev. Bob Ghiotto
officiating. Eulogies were provided by Bob
Moody and Bill
Foster. Music was provided by Joy and
Chris Fowler. Interment was in the
Morganton Baptist Church Cemetery with Graveside Military Honors by the
North
Georgia Honor Guard. The following
gentlemen served as pallbearers: Larry Thomas, Ronnie Bennett, Tim
Stubbs, Don
Stubbs, Otto Gonzalez, Rob Burzynski and Phil Burzynski.

Mrs.
Donnie g. Anderson, age 75, of Raspberry Trail, Blairsville, passed
away on
Monday, May 10, 2010 in the Union General Hospital following an
extended illness. Mrs. Anderson was born
on November 20, 1934
in Union County, the daughter of the late Major Grant and the late Dora
Shuler
Grant. She was a native and lifelong
resident
of Union and Towns Counties. She loved
gardening, traveling, fishing and spending time with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Cecil Lee
Anderson in 2005, a grandson, Charles James Anderson in 1988 and by a
brother,
Sylvan Grant in 1990. Mrs. Anderson
attended the South End Baptist Church.
Surviving
Mrs. Anderson are her loving husband of fifty-eight years, Robert
Anderson of
Blairsville, five daughters and four sons-in-law, Ann and Ottis
Franklin,
Brenda and John Chambers, Dora Davenport, Peggy and Ken Denning, Becky
and Tim
Rich all of Blairsville, two sons and one daughter-in-law, James
Anderson,
Brandon and Melisia Anderson all of Blairsville, two brothers and one
sister-in-law,
David Grant of Murphy, NC, John and Shirley Grant of Dallas, GA, four
sisters
and three brothers-in-law, ruby McClure, Dorothy and Joe Vandiver,
Louise and
Charlie Payne, Ossie and Vernon Jones all of Blairsville,
grandchildren, David
and Tascha Franklin, Jamie Anderson, Samantha Franklin, Carey Rich,
Chris
Anderson, Kelli Denning and Summer Anderson, great grandchildren,

Mrs.
Elizabeth Reed Berry, age 87, of Berry Hunter Lane, Blairsville passed
away on
Sunday, May 30, 2010 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville following
an
extended illness. Mrs. Berry was born on
September 12, 1922 in Augusta, GA, the daughter of the late Robert
Henry Reed
and the late Mary Chambers Reed. Mrs.
Berry decided at an early age that she wanted to be a teacher. After graduating in 1943 from Tift College,
she crossed Neal’s Gap to begin a teaching career in Murphy, NC, a career that would continue for a total of 42
years. In 1944 she married a native of
Union County
and in 1946 she began teaching in Union County.
What began in 1943 as a new exciting venture for a young woman
from
Augusta, GA grew into a lifelong career.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was preceded in death by a brother,
Douglas Cave. Mrs. Berry was a member of
pine Top Baptist church.
Surviving
Mrs. Berry are one son, W.R. Berry of Blairsville, one daughter and
son-in-law,
Annette and Joel Crawford of Lilburn, GA, one grandson, John Charles
Berry and
one great grandson, Ian Carter Berry both of Savannah, GA.
Many other relatives and friends also
survive.
Funeral
services were held on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at 11 a.m. from the
Mountain View
Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Tanner officiating.
Special music was presented by Cindy Whitmore and Johnny
Holbrooks. The following gentlemen served
as
pallbearers: John Charles Berry, Jeff Hawkins, Belton Tucker, Benny
Erwin, Matt
Witherow and Matthew Ellis. Interment
followed in the Shady Grove Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mrs.
Melva May Phillips, age 91, of Port Arthur, TX, formerly of
Blairsville, passed
away on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 in St. Mary’s Hospital in Port Arthur,
TX, following
a brief illness. Mrs. Phillips was born
on June 20, 1918 in Murray, KY, the daughter of the late John W. Miles
and the
late Fronie Adams Miles. Mrs. Phillips
retired from the Carrier Corporation after many years of service as
office
manager. She was an avid lifelong
gardener and an accomplished artist. She
also enjoyed needleworking, sewing and quilting. Melva
was a loving mother, aunt and
grandmother. She was preceded in death
by a daughter, Melanie Ann Phillips and a brother, Joseph Miles. Mrs. Phillips was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving
Mrs. Phillips are one daughter, Malinda Hawthorne of Port Arthur, TX;
one
nephew, Kevin Miles, one niece, Barbara Miles Covington, a
sister-in-law,
Lorraine Miles, all of Midland, TX; four grandchildren, Alan Hawthorne
of Port
Arthur TX, Kevin and wife Dora Hawthorne of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, Diane and
husband, Andy Scardino, Elaine and husband Jerry Tippitt, all of
Houston, TX;
three great-grandchildren, William Scardino, Ian and Christopher
Hawthorne, two
step-great-grandchildren, Andrew Scardino and Zachary Tippitt. many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services will be held on Wednesday, June 2, 1010 at 1 p.m. from the
Mountain
View Chapel with the Rev. Stacy Dyer officiating. The
following gentlemen will serve as
pallbearers: Kenneth West, Steven Caldwell, Patrick Caldwell, Kevin
Hawthorne,
Alan Hawthorne, and Jerry Tippitt. Interment
will follow in the Coosa United Methodist Church Cemetery.
