Mr. Lynn
McCollum Chaney, age 71, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Thursday,
May 21,
1998 in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville. Mr.
Chaney was born in Fulton County,
Georgia, on December 3, 1926, a son of the late Willie Brook Chaney
and Gladys McCollum Chaney. Mr.
Chaney served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a retired
electronics engineer from Delta Airlines.
In 1977, Mr. chaney (sic) bought a
home in
Blairsville. He was a member of First
United Methodist Church of Union County and was a Ham Radio Operator.
Surviving
are his wife, Joan Chaney, of Blairsville; godson, Tim Strike, of
Marietta;
sister-in-law, Evelyn Chaney of east Point, GA.; five nieces and one
nephew also
survive.
Funeral
services were held Sunday, May 24, 1998 at 3:30 p.m. from First United
Methodist Church of Union County with Rev. Eddie Herring, Rev. Newton
Scott,
and Dr. Bob Martin officiating. Special
music was presented by John Gurley. The
following gentlemen served as pallbearers:
Bruce Stewart, Jacque Devereaux, Thimothy Strike, Bob Ball,
Marvin
Herndon, Lloyd Dunham, Gerzy Gruzewski, Mryon
Turner. Interment was in Union Memory
Gardens Cemetery.

arrangements.

Mr.
Herbert
Clement Decker, age 79, of Blairsville, Georgia, passes away Wednesday,
may 27
1998 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.
Mr. Decker
was born in Campbell County, Kentucky, on October 17, 1918, a son of
the late
Matthew John Decker and Elena Bechtold Decker.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II. Mr. Decker moved to Florida in 1954 from
Dayton, Kentucky, and had lived in Blairsville since October of 1991,
coming
from Melborne, Florida. He was a member
of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Blairsville; and a member
of the
Knights of Columbus. After World War II,
Mr. Decker worked for the Bell Telephone Company in Covington, Kentucky
for
about ten years. Then he began working
with RCA Service Company at Cape Canaveral where he was an electronic
technician.
Surviving
are his wife, Emily Decker, of Blairsville; sons: Stephen, David and
Richard
Decker, all of Palm Bay, Florida; son, Michael Decker, of Charlotte,
NC; son,
Robert Decker, of Houston, TX; and daughter, Patricia White, of
Orlando, FL;
brother, Carl Decker, of Milford, Ohio; four grandchildren, and three
great
grandchildren also survive.
Memorial
services were held Monday, June 1, 1998 at 11:00 a.m. from St. Francis
of
Assisi Catholic Church with Father Tim Gadziala officiating.

arrangements.

Mr.
Howard W. Owenby, age 86, of Blairsville, Georgia passed away Sunday,
May 17,
1998 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.
Mr. Owenby was born on Monday, October 30, 911, a son of the
late
Zachary Owenby and Cordie Lee Norton Owenby.
He was a lifelong resident of Union county, and was a member of
Ebenezer
Baptist Church.
Surviving
are his wife, Mrs. Roxie Jane Dockery Owenby, of Blairsville; daughter,
Lela
Daniel of Glendale, AZ.; daughter, Pauline Hedrick of Blairsville;
daughter and
son-in-law, Lucille and Don Bailey, of Blairsville; son and
daughter-in-law
Lloyd and Nancy Owenby of stone Mountain, GA.; daughter and son-in-law
Lois and
Neal Griggs of Blairsville; brother, Sylvan Owenby of Blairsville and
sister,
Tottsie Dillinger of Dallas, N.C.; 7 grandchildren, 8 great
grandchildren, and
two step great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral
services were held Tuesday, May 19, 1998 at 1 p.m. form Ebenezer
Baptist Church
with Rev. Horace Potts and Rev. Loys Waters officiating.
The Singers were Debbie and Danita Owenby,
and Patsy Davenport (thank you all and our apology Ms. Davenport). The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Carson, Danny and Rex Owenby, Gerald, Ricky, and Ronnie
Owenby. Interment was in Ebenezer
Baptist Church with Cochran Funeral Home of
Blairsville in charge of arrangements.
