Mr.
Gerald Wayne Franklin, age 46, of Brannon Nix Rd., Blairsville passed
away on
Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at his home following a sudden illness. Mr. Franklin was born on July 12, 1961 in
Murphy, NC, the son of the late Cecil Franklin and the late Helen Brown Franklin.
Gerald was an avid collector, he
loved
woodworking, motorcycles and motor cross racing. He
was a great repairman who fixed
anything. At the time of his death, he
was employed with Brasstown Valley Resort.
Mr. Franklin was a member of the House of Prayer Church.
Surviving
Mr. Franklin are his wife, Rhonda Byce Franklin of Blairsville; one
daughter,
Megan Franklin of Blairsville; one sister, Janet Franklin of AL; one
brother
and sister-in-law, Jeff and Heather Traylor of Morganton, GA; an uncle
and
aunt, Rev. Billy and Helen Franklin of Hayesville; nephews, Wayne and
Steven
Poss of Stockbridge, GA; cousin, Racchel and Vernon Barnes of Young
Harris; many
other relatives and friends also survive.
A
memorial service will be held on Monday, June 30, 2008 at
7 p.m. from the Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Billy
Franklin officiating.
Special music will be presented by Jeri Ann King. Interment
will follow in the Many Forks
Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr.
Keith Arlie Johnson, age 73, of Wildwood Rd., Blairsville passed away
on
Wednesday, May 28, 2008 in Supply, NC following a brief illness. Mr. Johnson was born on June 25, 1934 in
Washington, D.C., the son of the late Arlie Latham Johnson and the late
Dorothy
Turney Johnson. Following graduation
from GA Tech, he began a career at Bethlehem Steel.
He then became a private consultant in
ceramic engineering. He had a great love
for his wife, children and grandchildren.
Keith enjoyed singing in his church choir, which he did for many
years. Mr. Johnson was a member of the
Mountain
Presbyterian Church.
Surviving Mr.
Johnson are his loving wife of twenty-five years, Lorena Thomas Johnson
of
Young Harris; seven children, Vikki Johnson of Dallas, TX, Karyl and
Reggie
Moultrie of Flower Mound, TN, Karyn Johnson of Seattle, WA, Kim and
Mark Kane
of South lake, TX, Kathy and Travis Adams of Blairsville, Bill and Sara
Messick
of Washington, D.C., Tom Carter of Austin, TX; one sister and
brother-in-law,
Cheryl and Chuck Corder of Dallas, TX; one brother, Duane Johnson of
Spring
Field, VA; seven grandchildren, Dustin Moultrie, Cater, Collin and
Clayton
Adams, Jessica, Rachel and Lauren Kane; many other relatives and
friends also
survive.
A
memorial service was held on Monday, June 2, 2008 at 11
a.m. from the Mountain Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Travis Adams
and
Collin Adams officiating. In lieu of
flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to
the
Mountain Presbyterian Church in memory of Mr. Johnson.

Mrs.
Benna Lee Thomas, age 78, of Old Zebulon Gap Rd., Blairsville passed
away on
Monday, May 26, 2008 at her home following an extended illness. Mrs. Thomas was born on April 25, 1930 in
Union County, the daughter of the late Roy Jordan and the late Nettie
Plott
Jordan. She was a native and lifelong
resident of Union County. Benna Lee was
a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was not only Claude’s wife, but she was
also his best friend. Mrs. Thomas was a
member of Enotah Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs.
Thomas are her loving husband of sixty years, Rev. Claude Thomas of
Blairsville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Buddy and Ayme Thomas of
Blairsville, Norman and Mary Thomas of Blairsville; one brother and
sister-in-law, Lewis and Joyce Jordan of Blairsville; one sister, Irene
Harris
of Granite Falls, NC; one granddaughter, Juletta Westmoreland of
Cleveland, GA;
three great-grandchildren, Zachary, Angel and Kiersten; several nieces,
nephews, and many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 from
the Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Totherow and
Rev. Jack
Cochran officiating. Special music was
presented
by Troy Phillips and Family. The
following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Louis Henderson, Ricky
Hughes, Rex
Everett, Jay Edwards, Riley Stephens and Earl Lovell.
Interment followed in the Zebulon Baptist
Church Cemetery. The family met with
friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6-9 p.m.

Mrs.
Lucille Blalock Cook, age 90, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Saturday,
May 24,
2008 at Heartland Hospice in Cartersville, GA.
Mrs. Cook was born September 2, 1917 in Rabun County, GA, to the
late
Herschel Blalock and the late Bessie Tanner Blalock.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church
of Blairsville, the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority and the Christian
Women’s Club
of Blairsville. Mrs. Cook graduated from
the University of Georgia in 1939 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in
home
Economics. She moved to Blairsville
where she met and married her husband of 65 years, Edwin, and taught
Home
Economics in the Union County School System for 34 years.
Mrs. Cook was twice named as Union County Teacher
of the Year. Lucille was preceded in
death by her beloved husband, Edwin F. Cook, in August of 2007.
Surviving family
members include: daughter & son-in-law, Jean and Pete Kelly of
Dallas, GA;
son & daughter-in-law, Joe and Karen Cook of Trion, GA;
granddaughter and
her husband, Allison and Tommy Richardson of Atlanta, GA;
granddaughter,
Suzanne Kelly of Atlanta, GA; granddaughter, Laura Cook of Decatur GA;
granddaughter and her husband, Lucy and Brian Sosebee of Kennesaw, GA;
and
great-granddaughter, Adeline Richardson.
Many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at 2 p.m.
from the First Baptist Church of Blairsville with Dr. Fred Lodge
officiating. Music was provided by
Minister of Music R.
Terry Hooper. Interment followed in the
Blairsville City Cemetery. Serving as
pallbearers were the following gentlemen: Joe Fair, Jim Dobson, Melvin
Cook,
Bob Blalock, Randall Adams, and Charles Jenkins. Serving
as honorary escort to the family was
Bobby Jackson. The family received
friends at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday from 1
until 2
p.m. at the church. Flowers are

Mr.
Hubert William Edmondson, age 84, of Suches, GA passed away Monday, May
26,
2008 at 867 Coopers Creek Road. Mr.
Edmondson was born Friday, October 19,
1923 in Fannin County, GA to the late Allen G. Edmondson and the
late
Ruth Carder Edmondson. He was a member
of Coopers Creek Baptist Church. He
enjoyed gardening, reading and spending time outdoors.
Edmondson was retired from Georgia Boot in
Blairsville. He was preceded in death by
his wife, Della Walker Edmondson in 2001.
Survivors
include: daughter, Frances Bird of Suches; daughter and son-in-law,
Lois and
Marshall Wilson of Hiram, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and David
Browning
of Stockbridge, GA; sister, Dorothy Garrison of Dunwoody, GA; sister,
Gerald
Johnson of Decatur, GA; grandchildren, Kevin and Rose Bird, Marsha and
Bryan
Jones; nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral
services were held Thursday, may 29, 2008 at 11 a.m.
at Coopers Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Hubert Legg and Rev. Paul
Carder officiating.
Music was provided by Janie Turner and
the Church Choir. Interment followed in
Coopers Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were: Ray Davis, Frank Davis, Melvin
Turner,
Justin Turner, Ronnie Pirkle, Ronnie McDearis.
Honorary pallbearer was Marshall Wilson.

Mr.
Benny Frank Brown, age 58, of Bearmeat Spur, Hiawassee formerly of
Blairsville,
passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2008 at his home following an extended
illness. Mr. Brown was born on October 15,
1949 in
Union County, the son of the late William Francis Brown and the lat
Virginia
Mashburn Brown. He was a lifelong
resident of Union and Towns Counties. He
was a veteran of the U.S. Army of the Korean War. Benny
loved to play the guitar and sing country,
bluegrass and gospel songs and music. He
was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Virginia brown;
brother, Oble
Brown; a twin brother, Glynny Brown; grandparent, Tom and Cora brown,
Will and
Ollie Mashburn. Mr. Brown attended N.
Mt. Zion Church of God.
Surviving Mr.
Brown are tow sons, Tony Brown of Hiawassee and “Little” Ben Brown of
Hiawassee; five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Dot Garrett and Vassie
Garrett
both of Hiawassee, Shirley and Eugene Pope, Marie Burnette, Belvia Jean
and Vernon
Barnes all of Blairsville; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Clinton
Brown of
Hiawassee, Zeno and Dessie Brown of Blairsville; several nieces,
nephews,
cousins and many other relatives and friends also survive.

services were held on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 2
p.m. from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Raburne Wilson and Rev.
Eugene
Freeman officiating. Special music was
presented
by Ryan Wilson. The following gentlemen
served as pallbearers: Bryon Davis, Scott Garrett, Billy Burnette,
Johnny
Barnes, Donald Teague and Rick Davis.
