mr. john isaac curtis

 

Mr. John Isaac Curtis, age 81, of Leslie Drive, Blairsville, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2005 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.  Mr. Curtis was born on May 22, 1923 in Montezuma, NC, the son of the late Tom Curtis and the late Johnsie Clark Curtis.  He was a veteran of the US Army of WWII.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Parsons Curtis; a son, Stephen Curtis, and by two sisters, Leona Roper and Ila Carswell.  Mr. Curtis was a member and Deacon of the Day Of Grace Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Curtis are nine children: Stanley and Donna Curtis of Warner Robins, GA, Johnny and Rita Curtis of Salisbury, NC, Ruth and Mark Spence of Wayne, WV, Hope and Donnie Nelson of Lavalette, WV, Paula and Gary Ledford of Murphy, NC, Theresa Rogers of Murphy, Tammy Curtis of Blairsville, Joe and Lori Curtis of Blairsville; five brothers and sisters, Lorena Clark of Lavalette, WV, Johnsie Nelson of Rutherford, NC, Sue Henson of FL, Opal Cragg of Lenoir, NC, James Curtis of Flint, MI; seventeen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, may 28, 2005 at 4 p.m. from the Day Of Grace Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeremy Henderson and Rev. Leon Henderson officiating.  Special music was presented by Jimmy Hogsed and Jane Wooten.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Quinton Holbrooks, Hank McClure, Wesley McClure.  Interment and graveside services were held on Sunday, May 29, 2005 at 1 p.m. from the Calloway Cemetery in Pineola, NC.

mr. larry j. dillard

 

Mr. Larry J. Dillard, age 58, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2005 at his home.

Mr. Dillard was born Monday, September 9, 1946 in Cherokee County, NC to the late Jack and Onabee Elizabeth (Coleman) Dillard.  He was retired from the United States Marine Corps and was a Vietnam veteran and worked as a jailer for Union County Jail.

Survivor include: wife, Eiko Dillard of Blairsville, GA; daughter, Kimberly Doyle of Las Vegas, NV; son, Larry J. Dillard, Jr. of Ducktown, TN; daughter, Melisa Lawson of Blairsville, GA; daughter, Jaclyn Dillard of Blairsville, GA; brother, Michael Dillard of Blairsville, GA; sister, Shirley Starks of Hiawassee Dam, NC; 2 grandsons: Jake Cothren and Dalton Moose, and 2 granddaughters: Cheyanne Dillard and Jade Lawson.

Funeral services were held Sunday, June 5, 2005 at 3 p.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Anderson officiating.  Music was provided by Tommy Holbrooks.  Interment was in Union Memory Gardens, with military honors given by the North Georgia Honor Guard.

mrs. lucile d. earnest

 

Mrs. Lucile D. Earnest, age 88, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Friday, June 3, 2005 at Union General Hospital.

Mrs. Earnest was born Sunday, October 29, 1916 in Walker County, AL to the late W.M. and Cora (Garrison) Dalton.  She was a member of First Baptist Church of Blairsville.  Mrs. Earnest taught school for forty years in Alabama and Florida.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson M. Earnest in 1999.

Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, Rev. William W. “Bill” and Hazel Earnest of Blairsville, GA; brother and sister-in-law, James C. and Nell Dalton of Defuniak Springs, FL; granddaughter and husband, Kim and John Anderson of Acworth, GA; grandson and wife, William W. (Buddy) and Wendy Earnest of Murrayville, GA; grandson and wife, David and Julia Earnest of Winterhaven, FL; great grandchild, Meagan Anderson; great grandchild, Spencer Earnest; great grandchild, Reagan Earnest; great grandchild, David Marshall Earnest; great grandchild, Bailey Earnest; great grandchild, Hannah Earnest.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 6, 2005 at 11 a.m. from the First Baptist Church of Blairsville with the Rev. Danny Parris and Rev. William “Bill” Earnest officiating.  Music was provided by David Earnest, Jackie Hill and Rita Hooper.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: J.M. Hatchell, Richard Glazier, John Killebrew, Homer Payne, Horace Parker, and Joe Satterfield.  Interment followed in Oak Hill Cemetery in jasper, AL on Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at 11 a.m.

marvin burnette

 

Marvin Burnette of Riverdale, formerly of Blairsville, died June 1, 2005.  He was preceded in death by his son, Neil Burnette and he is survived by his wife, Shirley Burnette; his sons, Odea Burnette of Riverdale, Russell Burnette of Murrells Inlet, SC, and Tony Burnette of Riverdale; four grandchildren; sister, Zola Rogers of Blairsville; and several nieces and nephews.  Memorial services were at 3:30 Saturday, June 4 at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home, East Point.  Rev. William Brannon officiated.  The family request no flowers.  Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home, East Point in charge of arrangements.

mr. william grady carroll

 

Mr. William Grady Carroll, age 90, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2005 in Union General Hospital.

Mr. Carroll was born Sunday, June 14, 1914 in Clay County, NC to the late Benjamin and Connie (Ledford) Carroll.  He was a WWII U.S. Army veteran and a member of Youngstown Baptist Church.

Survivors include: wife of 60 years, Opal Ingram Carroll of Blairsville, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Joan Carroll of Blairsville, GA; brother, Verlon Carroll of Canton, OH; grandson, Shannon and Chantel Carroll of Blairsville, GA; granddaughter, Triska and Michael Stroud of Blairsville, GA; six great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, June 3, 2005 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Leon Henderson and Rev. Mike Totherow officiating.  Music was provided by L.D. and Irene Buchanan, Ralph Grice and Betty Lackey and Rev. Leon Henderson.  Interment was in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors given by the North Georgia Honor Guard.  Pallbearers were Shannon Carroll, Steven Tanner, Jason Tanner, David Tanner, Denny Tanner and Michael Stroud.
