Mrs.
Flora Mae
Bowling, age 89, of Thankful Rd., Madison, GA, formerly of Blairsville,
passed
away on Saturday, June 4, 2011 in the St. Mary’s Hospital following an
extended
illness. Mrs. Bowling was born on Sept.
1, 1921 in Chatsworth, GA, the daughter of the late James Daniel Posey
and the
late Bessie Anna Perryman Posey. She was
a lifelong resident of Union County. Her
greatest accomplishment in life was being married to Bill Bowling for
over
fifty years. She was a loving mother and
grandmother. Flora Mae was preceded in death by her husband, William
Cecil
"Bill" Bowling in 1992 and also by five brothers and two sisters. Mrs. Bowling was a member of Faith Baptist
Church.
Surviving
Mrs.
Bowling are one son, Dan Bowling of Madison, GA, one daughter, Patricia
Reed of
Clarksville, GA, two grandchildren, Joshua and Regina Bowling of
Columbia, SC,
Mitch and Kelly Bowling of Perry, GA, one great-granddaughter, Gracie
Marie
Bowling, several cousins, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were
held on Monday, June 6, 2011 at 1 p.m. from the Mountain View Chapel
with the
Rev. Ray Potts officiating. Special
music was presented by the Kelley Trio. The
following gentleman served as pallbearers, Jimmy and Charlie Davis,
Ronnie
Stroud, Leon Stroud, Mack Mason, Eddie and Stanley Garrett. Interment followed in the Union Memory Gardens
cemetery (sic). The family met with
friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 5-7 p.m.

Mrs.
Willa Mae Floyd
Stephens, age 91, of Blairsville, GA, who passed away Sunday, May 29,
2011.
Mrs.
Stephens was
born in Hiwassee Dam, NC, on December 25, 1919, a daughter of the late
John
Floyd and Nora Crain Floyd. She had
lived in the Blairsville area since 1958, and was preceded in death by
her
husband, Mitchell Stephens. Mrs.
Stephens had been a member of Reids Chapel Methodist Church in Hiwassee
Dam for
81 years. Besides her husband and
parents, Mrs. Stephens was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda
Stephens; a
son-in-law, Steve Thomas; a sister, Gladys Walls; and three brothers:
George
Floyd, Clyde Floyd, and Paul Floyd.
She is
survived by
and will be lovingly missed by: two daughters: Gwyneth McKenzie Murphy
Yaita,
of Hiwassee Dam, NC; Gizelle "G.G." Thomas, of Morganton, GA; two
brothers, Ernest Floyd and Casteel Floyd, both of Hiwassee Dam; special
friend,
Danny Murphy, of Blairsville; grandchildren: Sleana and Jackie Cook,
David and
Mary Murphy, Lisa Renbarger, and Shirley and Casey Bryson, all of
Blairsville;
Brad and Trish Thomas, Justin Thomas, and Brittany Thomas, all of
Morganton;
great grandchildren: Whitney and Chelsey Cook, Faith and Jaden Murphy,
Jeremy
and Morgan Renbarger, Tyler, Amber, and Logan Bryson, Hailee and Hannah
Mealer,
and Emily Thomas.
Funeral
services were
held on Tuesday evening, May 31, 2011, at 7 p.m., in the Chapel of
Cochran
Funeral Home, with Rev. Jerry Young officiating. Special
music was presented by Debra Greene
and Evan Hughes. The family met with
friends on Tuesday, from 4 until 7 p.m. Mrs.
Stephens was buried in Reids Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery in
Hiwassee Dam.
The
family has

Methodist Church, for new hymn books. The

Irene
Dyer Robinson,
age 89, of Young Harris, Georgia, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2011. Mrs. Robinson was a native of Union County,
and was born on December 27, 1921, a daughter of the late Joseph Dyer
and Pearl
Townsend Dyer. She had lived in this
area for most of her life, and was a member of Zion Methodist Church. Mrs. Robinson was a graduate of Young Harris
College and North Georgia College. Irene
was an elementary school teacher for 37 years in Dekalb and Towns
Counties
until she retired in 1984, and she was passionate about making a
difference in
the lives of her students. She was also like a second mother to all of
her
siblings and helped them in many ways over the years. Preceding
her in death was her husband, Jack
E. Robinson; her parents; and six brothers and two sisters. Irene was a devoted wife who was married to
her husband Jack for 65 years. An avid
gardener, Irene loved to can and share her bounty with many. She was a generous person with those she came
in contact with.
She is
survived by
and will be lovingly missed by a sister, Maver Swanson, of Young
Harris, GA; a
brother, Jim Collins, of Blairsville; Numerous (sic) nieces, nephews
and other
relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services for
Mrs. Robinson were held Saturday, June 4, 2011 at 11 a.m., in the
Chapel of
Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville, with Rev. Stacy Dyer and Rev.
Jimmy Rogers
officiating. Special music was presented
by The Shook Family. The following
gentlemen served as pallbearers: Tony Dyer, Terry Dyer, David Jones,
Donald
Kimsey, Larry Swanson, and Justin Collins. Serving
as honorary escort to the family was
Zachary Kimsey, Jackson Jones, and Andrew Jones. Burial
was in Zion Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mr. John
Partin Jr.,
age 87, of Diana Drive, Blairsville, formerly of Orlando, FL, passed
away
peacefully on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 in the Union General Hospital
following an
extended illness. Mr. Partin was born on
Nov. 20, 1923 in Orlando, FL, the son of the late John Partin and the
late
Jessie Phillips Partin. John enjoyed
fishing in his spare time. He worked
with the State of Florida Forestry Service for over thirty years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather
and great grandfather. Mr. Partin was a
member of Jones Creek Church of God.
Surviving
Mr. Partin
are his loving wife of sixty-three years, Frances Carver Partin of
Blairsville,
four sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Janice Partin of Young
Harris,
Kenneth and Theresa Partin of Blairsville, David and Mary Partin of
Orlando,
Wayne and Charlene Partin of St. Cloud, FL, one daughter, Eunice
Blanton of
Orlando, eleven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, many other
relatives
and friends also survive.
A
memorial service was
held on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at 11 a.m. from the Mountain View Chapel
with
the Rev. Terrell Jones officiating. In
lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made to the
Jones
Creek Church of God in memory of Mr. Partin. The
family met with friends at the funeral
home on Saturday from 10-11 a.m.

Interment followed in Sawnee View Memorial Gardens.
The family received friends on Sunday from 10
a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday from 10 a.m. until the hour of service the
funeral home.

Rogers, age 91, of Fayetteville,
NC, formerly of Blairsville, GA passed away April 18, 2011 at Cape Fear
Medical
Center in Fayetteville, NC after a brief illness. He
was preceded in death by his mother Frankie
Wellborn and step-father Olin Wellborn of Blairsville; son, Jimmy
Rogers of St.
Petersburg, FL; sister, Sara Carmon and husband Jay of Knoxville, TN.
He is
survived by
his loving wife Lenore Rogers of the home; grandson Steven Rogers of
Hope
Mills, NC; granddaughter Lesia of Midland, TX, four
great-grandchildren;
brother, Foster Wellborn of Lawrenceville, GA; sisters, Helen Owenby of
Blairsville, Eleanor Lee and husband Hugh Lee of Blairsville; many
nieces and
nephews and friends.
James
loved his
garden and grew lots of vegetables and fruits.
Also he was an avid Braves fan and attended the spring training
when he
could.
Funeral

were held April 25, 2011 in Cumberland Memorial gardens with full
military
honors in Fayetteville, NC.
