Mr.
Larry D. Harkins, age 46, of New Haven, Connecticut and formerly of
Suches, GA,
passed away Tuesday, June 1, 1999 at St. Raphael’s Hospital in New
Haven
Connecticut following a short illness.
Mr.
Harkins was a native of Union County and had lived in
New York City and Connecticut for the past 10 years.
He was of the Baptist Faith.
He was
preceded in death by his father, Homesly “Hark” Harkins and a sister:
Marie.
He is
survived by his mother, Corena Harkins, of Suches, GA; brother, Robert
Harkins,
Suches, GA; sisters: Barbara Harkins, Atlanta, GA; Betty Dyer,
Alexandria, VA;
nieces: Robyn McClure, Cleveland, GA; Kendra Dyer and Carley Dyer, both
of
Alexandria, VA; nephew; Jeff Harkins, Flowery Branchy, GA, several
other
relatives also survive.
Funeral
services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 5th at
the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Union County with rev. Everett
Thompson and
Rev. Clarence Tritt officiating.
Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Mr.
Oscar Winn, age 93, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, May
30, 1999
in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.
Mr. Winn
was born in Union County, Georgia, on Wednesday,
March 7, 1906, a son of the late George Winn and Ellen Shuler Winn. He was a farmer and a lifelong resident of
Union County. Mr. Winn was a member of
Old Liberty Baptist Church, and was the widow of the late Ola Duckworth
Winn.
Surviving are
his brother Albert Winn of Blairsville; a sister, Lilia Collins, of
Ocolochnee,
GA; nephew, Kenneth Winn, of Gainesville, Don Winn, of Blairsville Ed
Winn of
North Carolina and niece Carol Collins of Ocolochnee GA.
Funeral
services were held Tuesday, June 1, 1999 at 2 p.m. from Old Liberty
Baptist
Church, with Rev. Harley Hunter officiating. Special
music was presented by Old Liberty Church
Choir. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Duane Dyer, John Wayne England, A.J. Wimpey, Don Winn,
A.J.
Collin, and Danny Bides. Interment was
in Old Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.

mr. julius cleveland “j.C.” harkins
Mr.
J.C. Harkins, age 63, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday,
June 1,
1999 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.
Mr. Harkins was born in Union County, Georgia on Tuesday, March
3, 1936,
a son of the late James Emory Harkins and Bonnie Maebelle Chambers
Harkins. He was a retired automobile
mechanic. J.C. had lived in the Atlanta
area for 12
years, but had moved back to Blairsville the last 28 years of his life. He was a member of Allegheny Masonic Lodge
#114, F&AM, and also was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church #1.
Surviving
are his wife, Margie Bowers Harkins, of Blairsville; daughter and sons
in law:
Kathryn and Dan Beaty, of Hamilton, Montana, and Patricia and Calvin
Collis, of
Blairsville; sons and daughter in law: James and Karyn Harkins of
Cleveland, GA
Robert and Shara Harkins of Blairsville; sisters: Sybil Tyre of
Blairsville,
Norman Jones, of Jonesboro, GA; and Eula Spence, of St. Petersburg, FL;
brother, Charles Harkins, of Atlanta; 7 grandchildren and 5 great
grandchildren
along with several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral
services were held Thursday, June 3, 1999 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of
Cochran
Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev. Harley Hunter officiating. Special music was presented by Elaine
Allison. The following gentlemen served
as pallbearers: Brian and Chris Harkins, Perry and Leslie Groves, and
Michael
Warren, and Andy Burks. Masonic rites
were presented by Allegheny Masonic Lodge.
Interment was in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr.
Roy Danny Hughes, ae 39, of Blairsville, GA, passed away unexpectedly
on
Friday, June 4, 1999 in Blairsville.
Danny was
born in Towns County, GA, on Wednesday, July22, 1959, a son of Dennis
Hughes
and Dorothy Thomas Hughes. He was a
carpenter, and a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Blairsville.
Surviving are
his wife, Eloise Tanner Hughes, of the home; his parents, Dennis and
Dorothy
Hughes, of Blairsville; son and daughter, Scott and Nicole Hughes, of
Blairsville; brothers: Avery Hughes and Tony Hughes, of Blairsville;
and
sister, Jeanette King, of Blairsville; many friends and other relatives
also
survive.
Funeral
services were held Sunday, Jen 6, 1999 at 3 PM from the chapel of
Cochran
Funeral Home in Blarisville, with Rev. Brian Contardi, Rev. Bryan
Mason, and
Rev. Wayne Hughes officiating. Special
music was presented by Elain Allison and the Shook family.
The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: J.L. Tanner, Glenn Tanner, Douglas Tanner, Keth Donaldson,
Richard
Taner and Kevin Hughes. The following
gentlemen served as honorary escort to the family: Charles Hughes,
Jason
Thomas, Ronnie Coker, Troy Hughes, Doug King, and Charles Gibson. Interment was in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church
Cemetery.

Mr.
Thomas Milton Gooch, age 84, of Kennesaw, GA, formerly of Suches, GA,
passed
away Thursday, June 3, 1999 in Woodstock Nursing Home in Woodstock, GA.
Mr. Gooch
was born in Union County, GA, on Thursday, December 31, 1914, a son of
the late
William Andrew Gooch and Bell Gilreath Gooch.
He had lived in the Woodstock area since 1962, and was a member
of Mt.
Pleasant Baptist Church #2 in Suches.
Surviving are
his son and daughter-in-law, William D. and Marie K. Gooch, of
Kennesaw; and
daughter and son-in-law, Laura Gooch Duvall and Edward Duvall, of
Acworth;
sister, Nell G. Patterson, of Asheville, NC; grandchildren: Scott and
Tracy
Duvall, of Acworth; Julie Duval, of
Tennessee; William “Tony” Gooch, of Kennesaw; and Dana G. Payne, of
Cherrylog,
GA; 6 great grandchildren survive.
Funeral
services were held Friday, June 4, 1999 at 2 p.m. from Mt. Pleasant
Baptist
Church #2 in Suches, with Rev. Ray Potts officiating.
