Mrs. lela mosseley kirkman

 

Mrs. Lela Moseley Kirkman, age 80, of Blairsville, passed away on Sunday June 1, 2003 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.  Mrs. Kirkman lived in North Carolina for 79 years before moving to Blairsville in 2002.  While in Blairsville she resided at the Union County Nursing Home where she was adopted by a warm, loving community of friends.  She was born on June 29, 1922 in Surry County, NC, the daughter of the late Elisha Moseley and the late Mary Simpson Moseley.  Following high school, where she graduated valedictorian of the class of 1940, she studied cosmetology.  She opened her own beauty salon in Mt. Airy, NC and worked there for many years before joining her husband Dewey Kirkman in Kerneersville, CN, to work with him in his business.  Together they operated the Pony Motel and Kirkman Realty.  She and her husband were active member of the Primitive Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband Dewey Carl Kirkman.

Surviving Mrs. Kirkman are one daughter, Carlene Dockery of Blairsville; a twin sister, Lola Snow of Toast, NC; sister Lettie Sykes of Mt. Airy, NC; one brother, Lacy Moseley of Mt. Airy; many nieces, nephews, and cousins, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 4, 2003 at 11:00 am form the Bunker Hill Primitive Baptist Church.  officiating.  Interment followed in the church cemetery.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in Mrs. Kirkmanís memory.

mrs. eleanor bozeman horne

 

Mrs. Eleanor (better known as Dodi) Bozeman Horne, age 61, of my Creek Rd., Blairsville, formerly of Jupiter, FL passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2003 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.  Mrs. Horne was born on Oct. 22, 19941 in West Palm beach, FL, the daughter of the late Oliver L. Bozeman and the late Majorie Shock Bozeman.  She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a member of the Southern Methodist Church in Jupiter, FL.

Surviving Mrs. Horne are her loving husband of forty two years, Roger Horne of Blairsville; two sons and daughters in law, Rick and Donna Horne of Dallas, GA, Wayne and Dana Horne of Snellville; one sister and brother in law, Gloria and Bill Smallwood of Hiawassee; four brothers and three sisters in law, Reggie Bozeman of Davie, FL, Harold and Ann Bozeman of FL, Marvin and Betty Bozeman of Young Harris, Donavan and Karen Bozeman of Jupiter, FL; five grandchildren: Russell, Kenneth, Collin, Alex and Kristin Horne; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Friday, June 6, 2003 at 2:00 pm form the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jim McIntyre officiating.  Members of the North Georgia Honor guard served as pallbearers.  Serving as honorary pallbearers were Sons of confederate Veterans.  Interment followed in the Pine Top Baptist Church Cemetery.

mrs. nannie lou mcclure thompson

 

Mrs. Nannie Lou McClure Thompson, age 80, formerly of Tanner Rd., Blairsville, passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2003 in the Fannin Regional Hospital following an extended illness.  Mrs. Thompson was born on March 30, 1923 in Clay Co., NC, the daughter of the late Walter J. McClure and the late Hester L. Cater McClure.  She was a lifelong resident of Union County.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Thomspon in 1980, daughter, Ruth Miller in 1977, a granddaughter, Ann Thompson in 1990, a grandson, Leroy Thompson in 1980.  Mrs. Thompson was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Thompson are four daughters and three sons in law: Frances and Dewayne Taylor of new Castle, PA, Barbara Sosebee of Blairsville, Lena and Billy McCollum of Blairsville, Becky and Kenneth Pickelsimer of Blairsville; five sons and daughters in law, Willard and Llewellyn Thompson of Canton, GA, Earnest and Linda Thompson of Blairsville, James and Judy Thompson of Blairsville, George and Darlene Thompson of Blairsville, Fred and Joann Thompson of Blairsville; brother, Paul McClure of Hiawassee; sister, Wanda Woody of Blairsville; twenty three grandchildren, twenty six great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 7, 2003 from the Macedonia Baptist Church in Hiawassee with the Rev. Tommy Jones and Rev. Earl Pickelsimer officiating.  Special music was presented by Jimmy and Kim Thompson.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Wayne, Dustin, Anthony, Grady, and Perry Thompson, and Scottie Reece.  Interment followed in the Macedonia Church Cemetery.

ms. barbara jean weysman baxter

 

Mrs. Barbara Jean Baxter, age 72, of Sharp Top Circle, Blairsville, passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2003 in the Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta following an extended illness.  Mrs. Baxter was born on Nov. 25, 1930 in Mountain View, NK, the daughter of the late Richard Weysman and the late Natalie Sisco Weysman.  She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.  Mrs. Baxter was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Union County.

Surviving Mrs. Baxter are her loving husband of forty nine years, Robert C. Baxter of Blairsville; three daughters and two sons in law:  Beverly Sommerfield of Herndon, VA, Laura and Bruce Hardcastle of Columbus, GA, Cyndee and Tom Strauss of Jupiter, FL; one sister and brother in law, Nancy and Richard Wright of Gold Canyon, AZ; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services were held on Monday, June 9, 2003 at 2:00 pm from the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Eddie Herring officiating.  Special music was presented by Elizabeth plot.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the American Heart Association in Mrs. Baxterís memory.

mr. charles ponder

 

Mr. Charles Edward (Tuff) Ponder, age 74, of Town Creek School Rd., Blairsville, formerly of Hampton, GA, passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2003 at his home following an extended illness.  Mr. Ponder was born on April 20, 1929 in Hampton, GA, the son of the late John Harvey Ponder and the late Nannie Lou Stevenson Ponder.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines and the U.S. Army of the Korean War.  HE was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Elliott Dye in 2003.  Mr. Ponder was a member of the Berea Christian Church in Hampton.

Surviving Mr. Ponder are his loving wife Elizabeth Russell gray Ponder of Blairsville; three children, Lynn and Ken Davis of Forsyth, GA, Michelle and Joel Stuart of Cohutta, GA, Tina Ponder of McDonough, GA; one sister, Marion Jones of Jonesboro; three brothers, Harvey Ponder of Jefferson, TX, Wilson Ponder of Griffin, Gerald Ponder of Bowie, MD; son in law, Greg Dye of Decatur; five grandchildren, Torrey Dye, Betsy and Will Davis, Nicole and John Stuart; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at 3:00 pm from the Berea Christian Church in Hampton with the Rev. Michael Felt officiating.  Special music was presented by Pat Felt.  Interment will precede the service at 2:00 pm from the Oak Hill Cemetery in Griffin, GA.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Georgia Mtn. Hospice in jasper, GA.
