Miss
Montyne Floyd, 82, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, June 2,
1996 in
Mtn. View Health Care Center in Clayton, Georgia.
Miss
Floyd was a native of Appling County, Georgia. She
was born on August 22, 1913, a daughter
of the late Truss Floyd and Mary Graham Floyd.
She attended college in Valdosta from 1930-1932.
In the early 30’s Miss Floyd taught 2nd grade
and from there went to High School where she taught French, English,
and
Mathematics. Miss Floyd also taught in
rural schools in Appling County. In the
late 30’s she moved to Atlanta where she worked as secretary and
administrative
assistant in state and federal government agencies.
Later Miss Floyd moved to Orlando, Florida
where she worked with the space program.
Miss Floyd returned to Atlanta and worked at Georgia Tech in
research
and development. She then went to work
with the Federal Aviation Administration in the Airport Expansion
Field. Miss
Floyd retired in 1978, and moved to a little cabin in the North Georgia
mountains in 1981.
She was of the Methodist faith.
Surviving
are a sister, Frances Stilwell, of Blairsville; a brother, Wallace Hoke
Floyd
of Baxley, Georgia; several nieces and nephews also survive. Miss floyd (sic)
was
preceded in death by a brother, Hovis A. Floyd, and two sisters, Sarah
F. Kingsley,
and Marjorie F. Paulk.
Funeral
services were held Thursday, June 6, 1996 at 11 a.m. from the funeral
home with
Rev. Jerry Karnes officiating.
Entombment was in the Abbey at the Westview Cemetery in Atlanta.
