aleen moss underwood

 

Mrs. Aleen Moss Underwood, age 86, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Monday, June 5, 2006 at Murphy Medical Center.  Mrs. Underwood was born Sunday, February 1, 1920 in Cherokee County, NC to the late Henry Moss and the late Rebecca Garrett Moss.  She was prec3eded in death by husband, Aaron Jefferson Underwood, brother, Floyd Moss, and sisters, Artie Wilson, Gladys Moss, Ollie Belle Davis, and Bonnie Wilson.

Survivors include daughter, Mozelle Clifton of Jacksonville, FL; daughter, Livinia Thigpin of Athens, GA; son, Roy Underwood of Young Harris, GA; daughter, Helen Underwood of Blairsville, GA; brother, Henry Lloyd Moss of Smyrna, GA; and sister, Leona Lovingood of Marble, NC.  15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services were held Thursday, June 8, 2006 at 3 p.m. from the marble Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Homer Wilson and Rev. Troy Long officiating.  Music was provided by Cindy Whitmore, Sierra McHan and Roy Underwood.  Interment was in the Moss Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were Bryan Watson, mark Underwood, Charles Thigpen, Pete Watson, Wesley Clifton and Billy Clifton.

walter merton smith

 

Mr. Walter Merton Smith, age 76, of Harbor lane Blairsville, passed away on Friday June 9, 2006 at his home following an extended illness.  Mr. Smith was born on Aug. 26, 1929 in Erie, PA, the son of the late Roland Smith and the late Maude Faulkner Smith.  He had retired from the Valley National Bank of Tucson, AZ, after twenty-eight years of service.  He was a Veteran of the US navy of the Korean War.  He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffery Alan Smith in 1979.   Mr. Smith was a member of the Shady Grove Methodist Church.

Surviving Mr. Smith are his loving wife of fifty-six years, Joyce martin Smith of Blairsville, one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Nancy Smith of S.E. PA, one sister, Oleta Zaczyk of Erie, PA, three grandchildren, Christian, Alexander and Jack Smith, several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 at 11a.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Bob Bone officiating.  Special music was presented by Jerry Taylor.  Interment followed in the Shady Grove Methodist Church Cemetery.  IN lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to regency Hospice in Mr. Smith’s memory.  The family met with friends at the funeral home on Tuesday morning from 10-11 a.m. prior to the services.

christopher cobb

 

Mr. Christopher Cobb, age 46, of John smith Rd. Blairsville, passed away on Saturday June 10, 2006 at his home following an extended illness.  Mr. Cobb was born on Dec. 4, 1959 in Murphy, NC, the son of the Royna Mae Coe Cobb and the late Robert Ty Cobb.  He was a lifelong resident of Union County and had graduated from Union County High School in 1977.  He was a Veteran of the US Navy and served on the Aircraft Carrier USS Constallation.  Mr. Cobb was of the Methodist faith.

Surviving Mr. Cobb are his mother, Royna Mae Cobb of Blairsville, two brothers, Robert Ty Cobb of Blairsville and John Roy Cobb of Blairsville, aunt, Juanita Hudson of CA, uncles, Johnny Cobb and George Coe, both of CA, nephews, Robert Ty Cobb III, Richard Cobb and Johnathon Cobb all of Blairsville, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Monday, June 13, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jerry Helton officiating.  The following gentleman served as pallbearers, Robert Ty Cobb III, Richard Cobb, Johnathon Cobb, Paul Thompson, and Al Garnto.  Interment followed in the Bethany Baptist Church cemetery.  The family met with friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 6-9 p.m.

iva louise hucks

 

Mrs. Iva Louise Hucks, age 90, of Garrett Rd. Blairsville, formerly of Jacksonville, FL, passed away on Monday, June 5, 2006 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.  Mrs. Hucks was born on Nov. 9, 1915 in Mt. Dora, FL, the daughter of the late Albert Rumph and the late Susie Roberts Rumph.  She was owner/operator of a grocery store for many years.  She was a member of the Eastern Star and also of the Red Hat Bunch.  She was preceded in death by two sons, Donald Hucks in 1996 and an infant son in 1938.  Mrs. Hucks was a former member of the Northshore Christian Church of Jacksonville, FL, and was currently a member of Antioch Baptist church.

Surviving Mrs. Hucks are one daughter and son-in-law, Addie (Betty) and Arthur Gurr of Blairsville, four sons and daughters-in-law, Rev. Ronald and Marilyn Hucks of Jacksonville, FL, Albert and Elaine Hucks of Mt. Piller, VA, Johnny and Ginny Hucks of Middleburg, FL, Herbert and Vickie Hucks of Indianapolis, IN, daughter-in-law, Joy Hucks of Tulsa, OK, twenty grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. George Cline and Rev. Ronald Hucks officiating.  Special music was presented by Patsy Davenport.  The grandsons served as pallbearers.  The body laid in-state at the church on Wednesday from 1-2 p.m.  Interment followed on Friday June 9, 2006 at 1 p.m. from the Evergreen Cemetery in Jacksonville, FL.  The family met with friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6-9 p.m.

james alexander handley

 

Mr. James Alexander Handley, age 72, of Blueberry lane Blairsville, who passed away on Thursday June 8, 2006 at his home following an extended illness.  Mr. Handley was born on April 10, 1934 in Chicago, IL, the son of the late Roy Handley and the late Edna Shark Handley.  He Grew up in Cincinnati, OH, and moved to Florida in 1977 where eh was employed by Disney World for over twenty years, retiring in 1997 and making his home in Blairsville.  He was a member of the Carson Masonic Lodge F&AM.  He enjoyed his part time position at the bowling center.  Mr. Handley was of the Presbyterian faith.

Surviving Mr. Handley are his loving wife of thirty-six years, Carol Rhein Handley of Blairsville, children, Larry Handley, Ken Handley, Julie Robinson, Jeannie Tobias, Kim Gordon, Mike Sarvis all of Cincinnati, OH, and Jeff Sarvis of Japan, thirteen grandchildren, two grear-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

No service is planned at this time.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to Regency Hospice in Mr. Handley’s memory.

john william lee

 

Mr. John William Lee, age 54, of Middle Creek Rd. Blairsville, passed away on Tuesday June 6, 2006 at his home following an extended illness.  Mr. Lee was born on Feb. 30, 1952 in Albuquerue, NM, the son of Ardith Williams Lee and the late Rubin Daniel Lee.  Before John’s illness he was employed with Gwinnett County as a Paramedic and Firefighter.  He was a Veteran of the US Marines.  Mr. Lee was of the Christian faith.

Surviving Mr. Lee are his mother and step-father, Ardith M. Lee and William Lyle, Jr. of Lavonia, GA, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Peggy and Travis Strickland of Columbia, SC, Robin and Marshall Poole of Stockbridge, GA, grandmother, Kathryn Williams of Decatur, GA, nephews, Ryan and Jeff Gilliam, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to Blairsville Mountain Animal Shelter in Mr. Lee’s memory.

jeffrey joseph morin

 

Mr. Jeffrey Joseph Morin age 48 of Robertson Circle Blairsville passed away on Monday June 5, 2006 at his at his home.  Mr. Morin was born on November 28, 1957 in Exeter, NH.  The son of Pauline J. Dostie Morin and the late Raymond G. Morin.  Mr. Morin attended the First United Methodist Church of Blairsville.

Surviving Mr. Morin are his mother, Pauline Morin of Englewodd, FL; three children, Shannon Greenwood of St. Petersburg, FL, Raymond Morin of Blairsville, and Misty Morin of Blairsville; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas and Kathy Morin of Lemitar, NM, Joseph and Karen Morin of Andrews, NC, and Eric and Nancy Morin of Woodbridge, VA; one sister and brother-in-law, Teresa and Kevin Thompson of Layton, Utah; several nieces, nephews, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins also many other relatives and friends also survive.

Services for Mr. Morin were held on Saturday, June 10, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Joseph Morin officiating.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to St. Judes Children’s Hospital in Mr. Morin’s memory.
