janice claire kelley

 

Mrs. Janice Claire Kelley, age 61, of Sawmill Rd, Blairsville, passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2005 in the Chatuge Regional Nursing Home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Kelley was born on Jan. 1, 1944 in Union County, the daughter of the late Edward Dyer and Mildred Cowhick Dyer.  She was a native and lifelong resident of Union County.  She was preceded in death by her first husband, Virgil Kelley in 1976, two brothers, Dean and Raymond Dyer and by an infant sister, Gaynell Dyer.  Mrs. Kelley was a member of the Old Liberty Baptist Church and had attended the Blairsville Christian Center.

Surviving Mrs. Kelley are one son, Steve Patrick Kelley of Gainesville, Mother, Mildred Dyer of Blairsville, one sister and brother-in-law, Vivian and Jerry Reid of Blairsville, three brothers and two sister-in-laws, Duane and Opal Dyer of Blairsville, Lyndon and Caroline Dyer of MI, Arlen (Bub) Dyer of Blairsville, two grandchildren; Claire and Courtney Kelley; several nieces, nephews and may other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday June 14, 2005 at 2:00 pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Wofford Kelley officiated.  Special music was presented by Sarah Kelley and Marlie Griggs.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, David Dyer, Adam Greer, Eddie Dyer, Perry Dyer, Troy Dyer, Junior Gaddis, Brannon Dyer, and Randy Thomas.  Interment followed in the Choestoe Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Dora Lee Andrews, age 98, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Monday, June 6, 2005 at Union County Nursing Home.

Mrs. Andrews was born Saturday, September 15, 1906 in Houston, AL to the late Marion Burnham and the late Jeanette Armstrong.  She was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church of Auburndale, FL and was preceded in death by husbands, Henry Grady Richards and Thedford Andrews.

Survivors include: sons, Paul W. Richards of Blairsville, GA and Earl L. Richards of Advance, NC; brother, Charlie Burnham of Panama City, FL; sisters, Addie Burnham of Blairsville, GA, Marian Oswald of Mariana, FL, Gwen Granger of Cottonwood, AL, Frances Edwards of Panama City, FL and Sybil Jones of Auburndale, FL; grandchildren, David Richards of Winter Haven, FL, Angela Howell of Blairsville, GA, Stacey Edds of Winter Haven, FL, and Mark Richards of Winter Haven, FL and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, June 10, 2005 at 10 a.m. from the Kersey Funeral Home in Auburndale, FL with the Rev. David Gurgel officiating.  Music was provided by Shawn Howell.  Interment followed in Auburndale City Cemetery.

mr. william snow payne

 

Mr.  William Snow Payne Jr., age 93 of Frank Martin Rd., Blairsville passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2005 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness.  Mr. Payne was born on Feb. 16, 1912 in Chattanooga, TN, the son of the late William Snow Payne Sr. and the late Ruby Forsner Payne.  He had been a Church of Christ Minister since the age of seventeen.  He pastured in Vero Beach and also in Homestead, FL.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Byrdie L. Acuffe Payne in 1993, a son, Robert Edward Payne, and also by four brothers, Jack, Joe, Lewis and Herman Payne.  Mr. Payne was a member of the Blairsville Church of Christ.

Surviving Mr. Payne are Marcella Hudson of Blairsville; one son and daughter-in-law, William S. Payne III and Geraldine of Tampa, FL; five grandchildren, Charlinda Yates of Mt. Dora, FL, Debrah Harrison of Atlanta, Darlene Ingham of Tampa, William Snow Payne IV; four great grandchildren, Leonard Lender, Shannon Dukes, Rhianna Harrison and Billy Payne V, one great great grandchild, Tristan Linder, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Payne were held on Monday June 13, 2005 at 2 p.m. from the Haisley-Hobbs Funeral Home chapel in Ft. Pierce, FL, with the Minister Boyd Williams officiating.  Interment followed in the Hill Crest Cemetery in Vero Beach, FL.  In lieu of flowers if you wish the family requests that memorials may be made to Camp Wetoga Bible Camp in Mr. Payne’s memory.  A memorial service will be held in Blairsville at later date and will be announced.

mr. roger lee nelson

 

Mr. Roger Lee Nelson, age 73, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at his residence.  His death was attributed to lung cancer.

Mr. Nelson was born Saturday, November 7, 1931 in Morris, IL, son of the late Gustave and Lois Nelson.  He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Leonard, Kenneth and Glenn Nelson.  He married Nan Siron in Hugo, OK in 1957.

Survivors include: wife, Nan of Blairsville, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Donna Nelson of Tallahassee, FL; daughter, Juliana Nelson of Bellville, TX; grandson, Hunter Nelson of Tallahassee, FL; granddaughter, Katherine Nelson of Tallahassee, FL>

Roger attended Northern Illinois State Teacher’s College and Stetson University.  His field of study was music.  He served four years in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict as a gunner on a B-26.  In 1955 he studied at the Eastern School of Instrument Repair in Newark, NJ and later opened Roger Nelson Music Sales and Service in Tallahassee, FL.  After retiring, he and his wife, who taught at Leon High and Godby High, moved to the North Georgia mountains.

No services are planned.

Mrs. Mildred Hinnant Hamby, age 89, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2005 at her home.  Mrs. Hamby was born Sunday, August 22, 1915 in Waverly, VA to the late James Burnley Turner and the late Sarah Carr Turner.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Union County, a member of United Methodist Women, Fidelity Sunday School Class, past member of the Union General Hospital Auxiliary, Chamber of Commerce and American Legion Post 121 Auxiliary.  She was preceded in death by her first husband, James M. Hinnant, Sr.; second husband, Milford Henley Hamby; son, Col Jim Hinnant, Jr.; brother, James Turner; granddaughter, Lisa Marie Hinnant; sister, Doris Alexander; and son, William Morris Hinnant.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Elva Hinnant of Tallahassee, FL; son and daughter-in-law, Donnell and Judy Hinnant of Wilmington, NC; son, Michael Stephen Hinnant of Woodstock, GA; 9 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; nephew, Myles Steven Alexander of Manhattan, NY; brother-in-law, Myles S. Alexander of Raleigh, NC; daughter-in-law, Ann Hinnant Johnson of Rock Hill, SC; dear friends, Gilmore and Marian Becham and Bill and Betty Bates of Rock Hill, SC.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 11, 2005 at 11 a.m. from the First United Methodist Church of Union County with the Rev. Eddie Herring officiating.  Interment followed in Union Memory Gardens.  Pallbearers were Frankie Green, Bernard Tebo, Christ Hinnant, Myles Alexander, Michael Knight and Wayman Lovell.

thomas oscar seabolt

 

Thomas Oscar Seabolt, Son of Confederate Veteran from Union County, October 1, 1906June 8, 2005.  Real Son Certificate and Medal presented to Oscar Seabolt by Camp #1418, 52nd Georgia, SCV, Presented November 10, 2001.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 10, 2005, in the Mason-Ward-Rogers Funeral Home Chapel for Mr. Thomas Oscar Seabolt, 98, of Lakeland Road, Gainesville.  The Rev. Milton Turner and the Rev. Loyd Martin officiated.  Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Seabolt died Wednesday, June 8, 2005, at the Lanier Park campus of Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Born in Union County, Mr. Seabolt was the son of the late Lafayette Seabolt, who was a Confederate soldier, and Sarah Katie Garrett.  He was retired from Gainesville Scrap Iron, and after his retirement he owned and operated Seabolt Scrap Iron in Gainesville for many years.  Mr. Seabolt was a member and deacon of new Bridge Baptist Church.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche Tanner Seabolt; son, Thomas Lee Seabolt; daughter, Betty Sue Porter; and someone special, Willie Mae.

“Mr. Seabolt was a loving husband, father and grandfather; he was an inspiration to all he came in contact with.”

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the New Bridge Baptist Church Building Fund, 3120 Cleveland Highway, Gainesville, GA 30506; or Hospice of Northeast Georgia medical Center, 2150 Limestone Parkway, Gainesville, GA 30501.Surviving

julie ann hulsey baker

 

Julie Ann Hulsey Baker, 41, of 102 Austin Oaks, Thomson, GA, entered into rest May 31, 2005 at McDuffie Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include: mother, Shirley Taylor, Thomson, GA; fiancé, James Malone, Thomson, GA; sister, Tonya Young, Thomson, GA; nieces, Rebecca Burchfield and Rachel (Chevy) Butler, Thomson, GA.  She was the daughter of the late William Melvin Hulsey.

Ms. Baker was a native of Richmond and Columbia Counties but lied in Blairsville and McDuggie counties for the past few years.  She was a graduate of Thomson High and Westland College of Macon with a degree in Christian Education.  Ms. Baker was also former Youth Director of the Church of Nazarene in Blairsville, GA and a member of St. Paul United Methodist.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, June 3, 2005 at St. Paul United Methodist Church with Rev. David Jenkins officiating.  Pallbearers were Chevy Butler, Nick Powers, David Young and James Malone.  Interment followed in the church cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Richmond County Humane Society.

Sherry Ellen Woodham

 

Mrs. Sherry Ellen Woodham, age 55, of Skeenah Gap Branch Rd, Suches, passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2005 at her home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Woodham was born on June 11, 1950 in Columbus, GA, the daughter of the late William Harold Harbuck and the late Ruth Ellen Fuller.  She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Harbuck in 1989 and Gerry Harbuck in 1977.  She was a Master Landscaper by trade.  Mrs. Woodham was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mrs. Woodham are one sister, Janice Tatum of Trussville, AL, one brother and sister-in-law, Don and Jean Harbuck of Salem, AL, several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to Regency Hospice in Mrs. Woodham’s memory.
