jeffery lynn curtis

 

Mr. Jeffery Lynn Curtis, age 36, of Berry Rd., Blairsville, GA passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2004 at his home following a brief illness.  Mr. Curtis as born on Nov. 7, 1967 in Union County, the son of the late Fred Curtis and Faye Berry Curtis.  He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County.  At the time of his death he was employed with O’Reilly’s Auto Parts of Blairsville.  Mr. Curtis attended Zebulon Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Curtis are his loving wife of seven years, Betty McGaha Curtis of Blairsville, One daughter, Jennifer Curtis of Blairsville; mother, Faye McClure of Blairsville; one brother, Ricky Berry of Blairsville; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Vicki and James Nix of Blairsville, Laura and Scotty Monkus of Hayesville, NC, Robin Curtis of Blairsville, Lisa and Michael Schaefer of Korea; several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 12, 2004 at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Tommy Jenkins officiating.  Special music was presented by Tommy Green.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers. Michael Nix, James Nix, Shane Payne, Berry, Jessica McGaha and Josh Berry.  Serving as honorary pallbearers were Scotty Munkus, Keith McGaha and Chad Deyton.  Interment followed in the Zebulon Baptist Church Cemetery.

mr. vaughan england

 

Mr. Vaughan England, age 77, of Blairsville, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2004 at his home.

Mr. England was born in Union Co., Friday, April 8, 1927, a son of James Perry and Hassie (Kelley) England.  He was owner/operator of a construction business and was of the Baptist faith.  Mr. England was also a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.  Preceding him in death were his sisters, Michael E. Daniel, Merner E. Kelley, Peggy E. Redmond, June E. Prather and Mary E. Parker, a son, Stevie Nolan England; and grandsons, Stephen D. England and John Wesley England.

Surviving are his wife, Eloise Deaver England of the home; sons: Douglas England, Dwayne England and Darrell England, all of Blairsville; daughters and sons-in-law, Yvonne and Ted Lunsford of Young Harris , and Angie and Philip Harley of Blairsville; daughter, Kathy Rich of Blairsville; sister, Jonnie Smith of Hiram; granddaughters Sandra Rhodes and April Miller; grandsons, Ryan England, Justin Jones, Caleb England and Chad England; and great-granddaughters Jase and Skylar Miller and Brittany Jones.

Funeral services were at 3 p.m., Friday, June 11, 2004 in the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Brent Chatham, Rev, Guy Bradley and Rev. Stacy Dyer officiating.  Music was provided by Nelson Lecroy, Scott Lance, Gloria Griggs, and Evan Hughes.  Pallbearers were Ryan England, Justin Jones, Caleb England, Gary Redmond, Bill Kelley, Larry Prather and Jimmy Parker.  Honorary pallbearers were Charles Murphy, Bud Murphy, Jim Everett and Franklin Brown.  Interment was in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.

joan ann closser

 

Mrs. Joan Ann Closser, age 66, of Dallas Drive in Blairsville, passed away on Sunday, June 13, 2004 at her home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Closser was born on December 8, 1937 in Vineland, N.J., the daughter of the late John Molino and the late Gertrude Monaghan Molina.  She retired from the Sun Bank in N.J., where she worked for several years.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Closser, in 1994.

Surviving Mrs. Closser are two daughters and one son-in-law, Patricia Kelly Jones and Dallas r. Jones of Blairsville, GA., Linda A. Kelly Gonzales of Lakeland, FL; one son, James R. Kelly of Lakeland; one brother, Joseph Molio of Millville, N.J; grandchildren, Jennifer, Jaime and Vanessa Kelly of Lakeland, Elizabeth Kelly Jones of Blairsville, Dallas Trevor Jones of Blairsville; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2004 from the Siloam Cemetery in Vineland, N.J., with interment following the services.

ivalee “gene” hedgecock

 

Mrs. Iva Lee “Gene” Hedgecock, age 74, of Blairsville, GA passed away Sunday, June 6, 2004, at her home.

Mrs. Hedgecock was born, Monday, July 22, 1929, in Clay County, NC, a daughter of the late Paul and Rose (Pendergrass) Ledford, and had lived most of her life in Union County.  She was a member of the Old Shooting Creek Baptist Church.  Mrs. Hedgecock was preceded in death by daughter, JoAnne Hedgecock; grandson, Matthew Mashburn; brothers, Robert Ledford and Carrol Ledford; sister Dorothy Bingham.

Survivors include: her husband of 57 years, Laban Hedgecock; daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia and Lawrence Beaver of Morganton, GA, Frances and JC Foster of Blairsville, GA and Peggy and Tom Mashburn of Blairsville, GA; sons, Harold Hedgecock of Blairsville, GA and Ricky Hedgecock of Dalton, GA; sisters, Willie Mae Mashburn of Hayesville, NC and Betty Jean Cox of Adairsville, GA; brothers, Clyde Ledford and Johnny Ledford both of Hayesville, NC; fourteen grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 9, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Rev. Avery Beaver officiating.  Music was by the Mashburn Family.  Grandsons served as pallbearers.  Interment was in the church cemetery.

mrs. marion harshbarger

 

Mrs. Marion Harshbarger, age 71, of Lakeside Dr., Blairsville, GA passed away Sunday, June 6, 2004 at her home.

Mrs. Harshbarger was born, April 8, 1933, in Fairfield, AL, a daughter of the late Edward and Bernice (Glosson) Fencher.  She moved to Blairsville eight years ago from Baton Rouge, LA.  Mrs. Harshbarger was a member of the Blairsville First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Dean Harshbarger of Blairsville, GA; children, Robin Case of Decatur, AL, Karen Black of Huntsville, Al, and James Canter of Hartselle, Al; nine grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Thursday, June 10, 2004 at 2 p.m. at the Blairsville First Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Paris officiating.  Music was by the Silvertones.

kathryn reece lane

 

Kathryn Reece Lane, 89, of Mechanicsville, Virginia, passed away September 20, 2003.  Her husband, James A. “Jim” Lane and a daughter, Emma Lynn “Penny” Lane, preceded her in death.

Kathryn was born, Nina Kathryn Reece, on June 15, 1914 on a part of the Reece family farm, which is now under Vogel Lake.  She was the third child of Emma and Juan Reece.  An older sister, Alwayne, died as an infant.  Her other siblings were a sister, Eva Mae Reece, a local teacher; a brother, Thomas James “t>J.” Reece, a local farmer; a sister Jean Rispoli, and a brother Byron Herbert “Hub” Reece, a local poet who gained national attention and awards in the 40’s and 50’s.  She always thought of Blairsville as “home” and vacationed there with her family for many years.

Kathryn is survived by her son, Michael J. Lane and wife Toni of Mechanicsville, GA; two daughters, Jerry Thomas and husband Albert of Warren, MI and Becky Boger and husband James of Mechanicsville, GA; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.  She was a retired employee of the City of Richmond.

A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 19, 2004 at 1 p.m. at the Old Union Baptist Cemetery in Young Harris, GA.
