mr. julius cleveland “j.C.” harkins
Mr.
J.C. Harkins, age 63, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday,
June 1,
1999 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.
Mr. Harkins was born in Union County, Georgia on Tuesday, March
3, 1936,
a son of the late James Emory Harkins and Bonnie Maebelle
Chambers Harkins. He was a
retired automobile mechanic. J.C. had
lived in the Atlanta area for 12 years, but had moved back to
Blairsville the
last 28 years of his life. He was a
member of Allegheny Masonic Lodge #114, F&AM, and also was a member
of Mt.
Pleasant Baptist Church #1.
Surviving are
his wife, Margie Bowers Harkins, of Blairsville; daughter and sons in
law:
Kathryn and Dan Beaty, of Hamilton, Montana, and Patricia and Calvin
Collis, of
Blairsville; sons and daughter in law: James and Karyn Harkins of
Cleveland, GA
Robert and Shara Harkins of Blairsville; sisters: Sybil Tyre of
Blairsville,
Norman Jones, of Jonesboro, GA; and Eula Spence, of St. Petersburg, FL;
brother, Charles Harkins, of Atlanta; 7 grandchildren and 5 great
grandchildren
along with several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral
services were held Thursday, June 3, 1999 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of
Cochran
Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev. Harley Hunter and Brian Contardi
officiating. Special music was presented
by Elaine Allison
and Tara Contardi. The following
gentlemen served as pallbearers: Brian and Chris Harkins, Perry and
Leslie
Groves, and Michael Warren, and Andy Burks.
Masonic rites were presented by Allegheny Masonic Lodge. Interment was in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church
Cemetery.
If you

to the Blairsville Relay for Life, American Cancer Society.

Mrs.
Norine Brown Odom, age 86, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Monday,
June 7,
1999 in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.
Mrs. Odom
was born on Wednesday, March 26, 1913, in Towns County, Georgia, a
daughter of
the late Rob Brown and Lou Cindy Foster Brown.
She was a homemaker and was the widow of the late Thurman Odom. Mrs. Odom was a lifelong resident of our
area, and was a member of Confidence Methodist Church.
Surviving
are her daughter, Margie Hughes, of Blairsville; sister, Christine
Odom, of
Blairsville; 3 grandchildren: Sandra Mann, of Cleveland, TN; Kenny
Hughes and Melissa
Taylor, both of Blairsville; 5 great grandchildren; 1 great great grand
child.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, June 9, 1999 at 11 a.m. from the chapel
of
Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville, with Rev. Buchanan and Rev. Jarvis
Bennett
officiating. Special music was presented
by the Faith Singers. The following
gentlemen
served as pallbearers; Earl Odom, Rex Odom, Ed Rohbaugh, Greg Odom,
Steve Odom
and Ronnie Byers. Interment was in
Confidence Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mr.
Roger B. Lachance, age 75, of Blairsville, Georgia, formerly of
Penbroke Pines,
FL, passed away Thursday, June 10, 1999 following an extended illness. Mr. Lachance was a member of Holy Family
Catholic Church in N. Miami, Executive 100 Club, Past President of
Northside
Lions Club, Knights of Colombus. He was also a U.S. Army Veteran of WW II.
Surviving are
his wife, Winnie Lee Lachance, of Blairsville; son, Donald Lachance, of
Woodstock, GA; daughters: Denise Steinberg of Cooper City, FL; Dolores
Brents,
of San Antonio; and Deborah Lachance, of Eufaula, AL; sister, Mary
Gagon;
brothers, Louie and Henry Lachance, all of Saco, Maine; and Patrick
Lachance of
N. Miani; 6 grandchildren also survive.
Services
were held Monday, June 14, 1999 at 11 a.m. from St. Francis of Assisi
Catholic
Church in Blairsville, with Father Tim Gadziala officiating.

Mr.
Emory F. Spiva, age 85, passed away My 7, 1999 at his home in Akron,
Ohio.
Born in Blairsville, Georgia, son of the
late Steve and Ida
Sullivan Spiva. Emory was the
last of a family of 9 children.
He was
preceded in death by his daughter, Judy.
Emory is
survived by his wife, Lois; son, Richard Spiva, and his loving
companion, Tina
Keith; one grandson, Clint Spiva and many other relatives and friends.
Emory
worked for the Goodyear Aerospace Co., for 30 years, and lived most of
his life
in Akron.
Emory was a
brother in law of Dora Allison (Mrs. Dan Spiva) of Blairsville and
Ovalene
(Mrs. Worth Spiva) of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Emory is
survived by first cousin, Bobbie Lance, Mertie Dyer, Inez Lance, Jane
McCollum
and Ruth Collins of Blairsville, Georgia.
Graveside
services were held Monday, May 10, 1999 at Greenlawn Memorial Park in
Akron,
Ohio.

Mrs.
Ella Ree Wilson Foster, age 86, of Blairsville, Georgia passed away
Sunday,
June 6, 1999 in Blairsville. Mrs. Foster
was born in Union County, Georgia on Tuesday, September 24, 1912, a
daughter of
the late Cicero Wilson and Roxie Smith Wilson.
Mrs. Foster had lived in Detroit, Michigan from the years of
1949
through 1974. She was a homemaker and a
member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, and Blairsville Chapter or the
Order
of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Foster has
been preceded in death by her husband, Bob Foster, in 1985; son, bobby
Foster
in 1948; son, Jim Foster in 1984; and son, Edmond Foster, in 1994.
Surviving are
her son and daughter in law, Bill and Darlene Foster, of Blairsville;
son and
daughter in law, Charles and Pinkie Foster of Wilmington, Illinois;
daughter,
Ella Faye Ickes, of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee; and son, Donald Foster, of
Blairsville; sister; Audrey Wilson, of Manasas, VA; 16 grandchildren
including
her special children Tammy and Gary McClure; 27 great grandchildren and
2 great
great grandchildren.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, June 9, 1999 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of
Cochran
Funeral Home of Blairsville, with the Rev. Hubert Legg and Rev. Horace
Potts officiating. Special music was
presented by The Cody
Family. The following gentlemen served

Mrs.
Nancy Helen Patterson, age 92, of Blairsville, GA passed away Monday,
June 7,
1999, at home. Mrs. Patterson was the
widow of Rev. Claude Patterson and a resident of Blairsville for 70
years. Mrs. Paterson was a member of
Confidence
Methodist Church and retired from the National Forest Service for
Seniors
Program in 1991.
She is survived
by one brother, Boone McCollum of Kentucky; grandchildren: Claude Helen
Jones
of Chatsworth, GA, Terri Lynn Dunagan of Baldwin, GA, Freddie Donald
Patterson,
Jr. of Florida, Jan Patterson, Judy Platt and Daniel Patterson all of
Blairsville, GA; 12 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren,
and many
nieces and nephews.
Funeral
services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 10 of Confidence Methodist
Church
in Union County with Rev. L. Connell officiating. Special
music was provided by the Visions. Pallbearers
were as follows: Jimmy Jones,
Kevin Thigpen, Danny Jones, Chad Platt, Chris Cole, and Daniel
Patterson. Interment was in the
Church Cemetery.
