mr. bill ray walker

 

Mr. Bill Ray Walker, age 70 of Hobo Junction, Blairsville passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2003 in the Fannin Regional Hospital following an extended illness.

Mr. Walker was born on July 15, 1933 in Bradenton, FL, the son of the late Edward Mason Walker Sr. and the late Flora Deall Pope Walker.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Wesley Walker in 1970 and a sister, Laura McBride in 1982.  Mr. Walker attended The House of Prayer Church.

Surviving Mr. Walker are one brother and sister-in-law, Bud and Jenny Walker of Blairsville; one sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Edward Moore of Bradenton, FL; several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Foundation in Mr. Walker’s memory.

mr. william arthur gooch

 

Mr. William Arthur Gooch, age 93 of Suches, passed away Saturday, June 7, 2003 at his home.

Mr. Gooch was born on Wednesday, December 8, 1909 in Union County, GA, a son of the late Washington and Julie Gooch.  He worked as a farmer, a was a lifetime resident of Union County.  Mr. Gooch is preceded in death by his wife, Maggie Lee Summerour Gooch, a son, Marvin Gooch, and a daughter, Wanda Avila.

Surviving are his daughter, Helene McQueen of Tyler, TX; daughter, Pat Melton of McCaysville, GA; son, Ralph Gooch of McCaysville, GA; daughter, Joyce Gooch of Tyler, TX; son, Earl Gooch of Boston, AM; son, Dale Gooch of Acworth, GA; son, Robert Gooch of Soddy Daisy, TN; and one sister Mattie Pirkle of Michigan.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 11, 2003 at the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville, with Rev. Jon Herrin officiating.  Interment was in the Coosa Methodist Church Cemetery.  Special music was provided by Rev. and Mrs. Earl Bishop, and Ken and Elaine Young.  Grandsons served as pallbearers.

mrs. bonita bridges thomas

 

Mrs. Bonita Bridges Thomas, age 64, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Monday, June 9, 2003 at her home.

Mrs. Thomas was born on Sunday, February 5, 1939 in Blairsville, a daughter of Lucille Bridges and of the late Doyle Lee Bridges.  She was a lifetime resident of Blairsville, and worked as a homemaker.  She was also active in the relay for Life.

Surviving are her husband Gus Thomas Jr.; her mother, Lucille Bridges; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Kim Thomas; brother and sister-in-law, Junior and Carolyn bridges; sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Harold Thomas; sister and brother-in-law, Deborah and Johnny Barnes, all of Blairsville a brother, Robert Bridges, of Suches, GA; and four grandchildren, Erin Thomas, Kali Thomas, Ethan Thomas and Kayce Young.  Many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 11, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Zebulon Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Jenkins, Rev. Wade Plott, and Rev. Jerry Helton officiating.  Interment was in Zebulon Baptist Church Cemetery.  Special music was provided by Susie Phillips, Louise DeLong, Freddy Burrell, Scott Lance and Mildred LeCroy.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: James Nix, Bill Dyer, James Bridges, Leonard Sosebee, Johnny Barnes, and Richard Coker.

mr. george thomas mcguinness

 

Mr. George Thomas McGuinness, age 64, of Holly Cove Circle, Blairsville, passed away on Monday, June 9, 2003 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness.

Mr. McGuinness was born on November 23, 1938 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of the late George McGuinness and the late Rose Reilly McGuinness. He had retired from Eastern Airlines with over thirty two years of service.  He was a veteran of the US Army.  Mr. McGuinness was of the Catholic faith.

Surviving Mr. McGuinness are his loving wife of thirty nine years, Susan O’Malley McGuinness of Blairsville; two daughters and son-in-laws, Carolyn and Brian Cargle of Marietta, Janet and Geoff Hart of Braselton; two grandchildren, Jackson and Casey Cargle, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 11, 2003 from the Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon William Diehl officiating.
