carl thomas turner

 

Mr. Turner passed away May 10, 2002 in Gainesville, GA.  He was born in Union County on August 2, 1905, the son of the late Lott & Susie Duckworth Turner.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Ruby Gillispie Turner, also a native of Union County.

Funeral services were held May 13, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. from Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel, Gainesville, GA with Rev. Robert West officiating. 

Pall bearers were: Larry Turner, Gary Turner, James Leon Turner, Dave Turner, Joe Turner, and Edgar Wigley.

Interment was in Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Mr. Turner is survived by many nieces and nephews.

joannie ray clack

 

Suches, GA – Services for Joannie R. Clack, 47, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Gray Funeral Home in Whitmire, SC with burial to follow in the Whitmire Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m.. prior to the funeral services at Gray Funeral Home.  Family will be at the home of her Uncle Carlton Hall, 252 Colonial Drive in Whitmire, SC.

Joannie died June 9, 2002.  Born in Sumter, SC, graduated from Whitmire High School and Columbia Commercial College.  She was the daughter of Miriam Hall Hodges of Sumter, SC and the late William L. Ray of Sumter, SC.  She was the granddaughter of the late Carlton E. Hall and Margaret Hall Johnson of Whitmire, SC.

Surviving are her husband, Paul Clack of Suches, GA, her daughter, Chris Mitchum Vandevander and a grandson Jordan B. Vandevander of Sumter, SC, sisters Sharon Jeannie Ray Privett of Black Rock, AR, Jackie Ray Wingard of Turbeville, SC, Jane Ray Townsend of Loganville, GA and Jill Ray Schreiber of Sumter, SC.  7 nieces and 3 nephews she loved dearly.  Joannie will be missed by family and many friends.

lorene nicholson

 

Mrs. Lorene Nicholson, age 92, native and lifelong resident of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2002, in Grandview Nursing Home in Jasper, Georgia.

Mrs. Nicholson was born Tuesday, December 21, 1909, in Union County, Georgia a daughter of the late John Festus Nelson and Martha Berry Nelson.  She was a homemaker and member of Harmony Grove Baptist Church.  Mrs. Nicholson had been preceded in death by her husband, Ed Nicholson, in 1984; and a son, Max Nicholson, in 1987.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Betty Nicholson, of Cohutta, GA; daughter, Jerri Ballew, of jasper, GA; five grandchildren and their spouses: Johnny and Susie Nicholson; Vickie and Bob Frady; Teresa and Bob Dorton; Gail and Mike Gowder; Hal and Debbie Carpenter; Ten great grandchildren also survive, along with many friends and other relatives.

Funeral services were held Friday, June 14, 2002, at 2:00 pm from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville with Rev. Bill Gowder officiating.  Special music was presented by The Kelley Trio.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Kurt Frady, Spencer Frady, Brody Dorton, Brad Gowder, Blake Gowder, Miles Carpenter, and Kyle Carpenter.  Interment was in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery in Blairsville.

sherlock holmes fields

 

Mr.  Sherlock Holmes Fields, age 77, of Faith Acres Rd., Blairsville, GA passed away on Sunday June 16, 2002 in the Crawford Long Hospital following an extended illness.  Mr. Fields was born on May 1, 1925 in Hartsville, SC, the son of the late Tillman D. Fields and the late Grace Skipper Fields.  He was a verteran of the Merchant Marines.  He was also a member of the Moose Lodge.  Mr. Fields was of the Baptist Faith.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Bradford Fields in 1992.

Surviving Mr. Fields are one daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Dave Morelli of Blairsville, one son, Greg Fields of Ocala, FL, one brother and sister-in-law, Cyril and Barbara Seagers of Santee, SC, one sister, Florida Rushing of Garden City, SC, one granddaughter, Melissa Petersen, two great grandchildren, Samantha and Dylan Petersen, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 18, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. from the Norton Funeral Home Chapel in Hatsville, SC, with the Rev. Michael Blake officiating.  Interment followed in the Savannah Christian Advent Cemetery in Hartsville.
