passed away Friday, June 14, 1996.
Mrs. Stroud
was born in Union County the daughter of Gerald and Opal Lovell McGaha
and had

are her husband, John Neil Stroud of Young Harris, Parents (sic) Mr.
and Mrs.
Gerald McGaha of Young Harris; daughter and son Shawnda Stroud and

Stroud of the home; step-daughter and stepson, Penny and John Stroud of
Hayesville, NC; brothers Gerald D. McGaha, Jr and Aaron Rowland of

NC and one nephew.
Funeral
services were held Sunday, June 16, 1996 at 2 p.m. from the Old
Brasstown
Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Rogers and the Rev. Waymon Lovell
officiating.
Interment was in the church
cemetery. Pallbearers were Ricky Plott,

Mrs.
Nellie P. Mason, 88, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, June
11,
1996 in Lilburn Geriatric Center is (sic) Lilburn, GA.
Mrs.
Mason was born in Fannin County, Georgia, on August 30,
1907, a daughter of the late Joseph Elijah Patterson and Nancy Ammons
Patterson. She was a homemaker and had
lived
most of her life in this area. Mrs. mason was a member of Faith Baptist Church. Preceding her in
death was her husband, Roy e. mason, in 1968; a daughter, Jana Ruth
Plott, in
1994; and granddaughter, Nancy Maness, in 1994.
Surviving
are five children, Charlsea Carney, of Dahlonega, GA; Bernadine Saul,
of
Clarkesville, TN; Dwight Mason, of Milledgeville, GA; Dwayne Mason, of
Lawrenceville, GA; and Blake Mason, of Monroe, GA; two sisters, Grace
Stephens,
of Maryville, TN; and Kate Murphy, of Blairsville, GA; nineteen
grandchildren,
twenty four great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren, and
several
nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral
services were held Friday, June 14, 1996 from Faith Baptist Church with
Pastor
James Brock officiating. Special music
was presented by Sammy Nichols, James Brock, and David Hobby. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Joey Murphy, Wendall Murphy, Gerald Patterson, Lannie
Plott, Eddie
Mason, and Chuck Mason. Serving as
Honorary (sic) escort to the family were Quinton Holbrooks, and Ted

D. Hilton, Jr., 45, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Thursday, June
13,
1996 in Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Georgia.
Mr. Hilton
was a native of Fannin County, Georgia, and was born on July 23, 1950. he was a lifelong
resident of this area and was a carpenter.
Mr. Hilton was a member of Star Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving are
his wife, Geraldine Beaver Hilton, of Blairsville; a daughter, Vanessa
Hilton
and step daughter, Joni Beaver, both of Blairsville; parents, Ollie D.
and Edna
mae (sic) Hilton, of Morganton; brothers, Morris Lynn Hilton of
Morganton; Carl
James Hilton, of Blairsville, GA; and Ronald L. Hilton, of Culleoka,
TN;
sister, Regina Hilton of Morganton. Many
other relatives and friends also survive.

C. Weaver, 76, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Sunday afternoon,

1996 in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.
Mr. Weaver was born February
20, 1920 in Union County, Georgia, a son of the late Ora Weaver and
Dealy
Sullivan Weaver. He was a veteran of the
U. S. Army and served during World War II.
Mr. Weaver was a lifelong resident of Union County.
Preceding him in death was a son, Charles
Weaver, and a grandson, Benny Weaver.

June 12, 1996 in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.
Mrs.
Pettett was born in Union County, Georgia, on August 2,
1916, a daughter of the late Elisha Patterson and Julia Brackett
Patterson. She was a homemaker and was
the widow of the late Rev. Claude Pettett, who passed away in 1981. Mrs. Pettett had lived most of her life in
this area, and was a member of Central Baptist Church of Marietta.
Surviving are
daughters, Claudette Sparks of Blairsville, and Carolyn Shaw, of
Loganville,
GA; son, David Pettett, of Marietta, GA; sister, Hazel McClure of Ohio;
seven
grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren also survive.

Mr.
Charlie
Tate, 77, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Monday, June 10, 1996 in
Blairsville.
Mr. Tate
was a former football coach at the University of
Miami and assistant coach at Georgia Tech.
He and his wife, Annie Lee, had been living in the North Georgia
Mountains since 1983, when Tate retired after selling a business in
Sebring. Mr. Tate was born in Tracy
City, Tennessee, on February 20, 1919, and moved to Florida at age 5. He became a standout in football, baseball
and basketball at Jacksonville’s Julia Landon High School in the 1930’s.
Surviving
are his wife, Annie Lee Tate of Blairsville; daughters, Connie Perry of
Nashville, GA, Kathy Russell, of Chapel Hill, NC; and Susie Morris, of
Valrico,
FL; sons, Charles Tate, Jr., and Richard Tate, of Bartow, FL, and
Robert Tate
of Brandon, FL; sisters, Kathleen Barllett of Daytona Beach, FL,
Ophelia Ogier
and Joyce Brannam, both of Jacksonville; and Lolly Nolan of Starke, FL;
brothers, Hayes Tate and Buddy Tate, both of Jacksonville.
Sixteen grandchildren,
and one great grandchild also survive.

J. Hullender, who passed away in 1970..

are step son, Perry Hullender, of Apison, TN; sister, Beulah Puett, of

Harris, GA; a grandson, Jeffrey Hullender, of Ringgold; two great
grandchildren, Elizabeth and Brian Hullender, of Ringgold; and several
