mr. vaughn willard souther

 

Mr. Vaughn Willard Souther, age 81, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Sunday, June 11, 2000 in St. Josephís Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.

Mr. Souther was born in Union County, Georgia, on Thursday, July 11, 1918, a son of the late Luther Souther, and Dora Cole Souther.  He was a farmer, and was a lifelong resident of this area.  Mr. South was a member of Old Liberty Baptist Church.  He had been preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Hooper Souther, who passed away in 1992.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, James and Betty Souther, of Demorest, Georgia; grandson, Tony Souther, of Demorest; six sisters-Deva Coker, Ina Nix, Delphia Collins, Myrtle Allison, Maybelle King, and Ella Dyer, all of Blairsville; many other friends and relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 13, 2000 from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev. Donald Grizzle officiating.  Special music was presented by Ken and Elaine Young.  Interment was in Old Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.

mr. mack allen kelley

 

Mr. Mack Allen Kelley, age 88, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2000 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mr. Kelley was born in Union County, Georgia, on Friday, December 29, 1922, a son of the late Nando Kelley and Sarah McGlamery Kelley.  He was a lifelong resident of this area and was a sawmiller.  Mr. Kelley attended the House of Prayer Church.  He had been preceded in death by a son, Jim Kelley, in 1998.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Murner England Kelley, of Blairsville; sons and daughters in law, Jack and Liz Kelley, of Duluth, Georgia, Bud and Max Kelley, and Bill and Janice Kelley, all of Blairsville; daughters and son in law, Gwen and Jack Dillard, Melva Lyn and Rex Patton, all of Blairsville; Jo Ann and Baxter Mason, Peggy and Charles Scott, and Judy and Gary Foster, all of Blairsville; daughter in law, Susie Kelley, of Blairsville; sister, Johnnie Lee Hitt, of St. Petersburg, Florida; twenty-three grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren also survive, along with many friends and other relatives.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 17, 2000 at 11 a.m. from the House of Prayer Church with Rev. Jerry Helton and Rev. Larry Wynn officiating.  Special music was presented by Rick Milner, The House of Prayer Choir, and Mary Newton.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: John, Jeff, Shannon Kelley; Mitch Patton, Kedrick Scott, Van Foster, Mark and Chris Kelley, Lon Dillard, Mike Patton, Kelley Scott, Travis Foster, and Jason Kelley.  Interment was in the Kelley Family Cemetery.

mrs. clara maxine nichols

 

Mrs. Clara Maxine Nichols, age 67, of Hiawassee, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2000.  Mrs. Nichols was born in Union County, Georgia the daughter of the late Worth and Norene Henson Thurman.  After a number of years in the Atlanta area Vance retired and he Maxine returned to Towns County in 1986.

Mrs. Nichols is survived by her husband: Vance Nichols of the home; daughter and son in law: Linda and Bill Henry of Sharpsburg, Georgia; son: Steven Worth Nichols of Lawrenceville, Georgia; two brothers and sisters in law: Glynn and Mary Lou Thurman and Dale and Beatrice Thurman, all of Hiawassee, GA; grandchildren, Melissa Nichols, Holly Nichols, great grandchild: Taylor Worth Hanningan, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 14, 2000 at 2 p.m. from the Mt. Pleasant Church of God with the Rev. Jarvis Bennett and the Rev. Aaron Underwood officiating.  Interment was in the Old Union Cemetery.  Music was provided by Mrs. Ford Ashe.  Pallbearers were: Vance Thurman, Jimmy Wright, jack Kelley, Wyatt Thurman, Ford Ashe, and Gary Thurman.
