willis “buddy” lanier

Mr. Willis (better known as Buddy) Lanier, age 70, of Tomahawk Trail Blairsville, formerly of Jacksonville, FL, passed away on Friday June 17, 2005 at his home following an extended illness.  Mr. Lanier was born on Sept. 17, 1934 in Claxton, GA, the son of the late Will Lanier and the late Cora Lee Jernnigan.  Mr. Lanier had moved to Jacksonville from Claxton in 1971 and lived there until moving to Blairsville in 1997.  He had served with the Army National Guard with over twenty years of service.  He was a very active member of the Blanding Blvd. Baptist Church in Jacksonville and was affiliated with the Jacksonville Youth Sanctuary.  He was a former member of the Wesconnett Masonic Lodge.  He had retired from Civil Service at the Cecil Field Naval Air Station, the May Port Naval Air Station and also the Jacksonville N.A.S., and also from the Charbud Mechanical Inc.  At the time of his death he was co owner of L&M Builder of Blairsville.  Mr. Lanier was member of Faith Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Lanier are his loving wife of fifteen years, Judy Livingston Lanier of Blairsville; one son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Garrien Lanier of Blairsville; one daughter, Kimberly Seeba of Jacksonville, FL; six grandchildren; Ashtin Finch, Phillip, Kimberly and Trevor Lanier, Adrian and Amber Seeba.  Many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Monday June 20, 2005 at 11:00 am from the Mellie NeSmith funeral home chapel in Claxton, GA., with the Rev. David Struck officiating.  The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Ashtin Finch, Adrian Seeba, Jack Banning, Jerome Jackson, Don Boykin and Tommy McKendree.  Interment will follow in the Evergreen Church Cemetery.  The family will meet with friends at the Mountain View funeral home on Saturday evening from 6-9 pm and at the Mellie NeSmith funeral home on Sunday evening from 6-9 pm.

alton ray abernathy

Alton Ray Abernathy, 65, of Cullowhee, NC, passed away May 28, 2005, at Tsali Care Center in Cherokee, NC.

Mr. Abernathy was born January 45, 1940, in Union County, GA to the late J. Raymond Abernathy and the late Cora Patton Abernathy.  Grandparents were the late Ora and Ada Patton of Blairsville.  He lived most of his youth in Waynesville, NC.  Mr. Abernathy retired from BASF Corp. Enka in Hazelwood, NC.

Survivors include his wife, Robin Wilkes Abernathy of Cullowhee, NC; sister, Charlotte Branch of Atlanta; one nephew, other relatives, and many friends.

A Memorial Service was held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 12, 2005, at Speedwell United Methodist Church in Cullowhee.  Moody Funeral Home of Sylva, NC was in charge of arrangements.
