florence jackson hunter

 

Mrs. Florence Jackson Hunter, age 92, of Atlanta, Ga., formerly of Blairsville, GA., passed away on Thursday, June 17, 2004 in the Atlanta Medical Center.

Mrs. Hunter was born Wednesday, march 13, 1912 in Union County, GA., a daughter of the late Marion and Emma (Davis) Jackson.  She was a former teacher.  Mrs. Hunter had served on the Georgia Homemakers Council, the WMU and was a former member of Faith Baptist Church in Blairsville.  She was a member of Colonial Hills Baptist Church in Lithia Springs.  Mrs. Hunter was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Hunter in 1990.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Shelba Hunter of Thayer, MO; daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Jesse Thornton of Fairburn, GA; 2 sisters-in-law, Dora Spiva and Ida Jackson, both of Blairsville; four grandchildren, Nancy and Eugene Hallman, Julia and Britt Wilson, James and Jana Hunter and Mia Hunter; four step-grandchildren; eight great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 19, 2004 at Colonial Hills Baptist church with Rev. mark Smith officiating.  Music was provided by Raymond Sauls and Elizabeth Sussman.  Pallbearers were Sammy Nichols, Ernest Rice, Dean Danek, Bob Meredith, David Hobby, Neil Steigerwalt, Mark Sussman, Lyndall Rainwater, David Hicks, Britt Wilson, Hunter Wilson, Collin Wilson.  Graveside services were in the Choestoe Baptist Church Cemetery in Blairsville, GA., with music by Nell Rice.

Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville was entrusted by the family for the arrangements.

jeffrey lynn curtis

 

Mr. Jeffery Lynn Curtis, age 36, of Berry Rd., Blairsville, GA passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2004 at his home following a brief illness.  Mr. Curtis as born on Nov. 7, 1967 in Union County, the son of the late Fred Curtis.  He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County.  At the time of his death he was employed with O’Reilly’s Auto Parts of Blairsville.  Mr. Curtis attended Zebulon Baptist Church.

Surviving  Mr. Curtis are his loving wife of seven years, Betty McGaha Curtis of Blairsville, One daughter, Jennifer Curtis of Blairsville; mother, Faye McClure of Blairsville; one brother, Ricky Berry of Blairsville; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Vicki and James Nix of Blairsville, Laura and Scotty Monkus of Hayesville, NC, Robin Curtis of Blairsville, Lisa and Michael Schaefer of Korea; several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 12, 2004 at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Tommy Jenkins officiating.  Special music was presented by Tommy Green.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Michael Nix, James Nix, Shane Payne, Berry, Jessie McGaha and Josh Berry.  Serving as honorary pallbearers were Scotty Monkus, Keith McGaha and Chad Deyton.  Interment followed in the Zebulon Baptist Church Cemetery.

mrs. elizabeth helton

 

Mrs. Elizabeth Helton, age 76, lifelong resident of Blairsville, Georgia passed away on Friday, June 18, 2004 at her home following an extended illness.

Mrs. Helton was born on Sunday, May 6, 1928 in Stephens County, Georgia, a daughter of the late William E. Kelley and Myrtle Mae Walker Kelley.  She and her husband were the original owners of The Blairsville Restaurant.  Elizabeth was a local seamstress for many years and a member of The House of Prayer Interdenominational Church.  Elizabeth was a much beloved hostess at Cochran Funeral Home for many years and will be sorely missed.

Surviving is her loving husband, Clarence Helton, of their home; daughters and sons-in-law, Janey and Bill Dyer, Trudy and James Baker; sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Barbie Helton and Terry and Darlene Helton, all of Blairsville; sister, Maudelle Kelley; sisters and brothers-in-law, Louise and Ron DeLong, Susie and Pat Phillips; brothers and sisters-in-law, Wofford and Sarah Kelley, Herby and Linda Kelley, all of Blairsville; nine grandchildren, Kim Thomas, Curtis Dyer, Paige Patrick, Zach Helton, Nathan Helton, Ashley Torres, Joey Helton, Dustin Baker and Derrick Baker, all of Blairsville; ten great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, June 20, 2004 at The House of Prayer with Rev. Bill Honaker and Rev. Ray Potts officiating.  Special music was presented by The House of Prayer Church Choir.  The following gentlemen served as Pallbearers, Curtis Dyer, Nathan Helton, Dustin Baker, Joey Helton, Fabian Torres and Zach Helton.  Burial was in The House of Prayer Church Cemetery.
